5970 Sightings....Where are they?

DIdn't the same thing happen with Nvidia when the 8800 series came out at first? Prices were sky high for those series of cards too if memory serves....

I am trying to wrap my head around why people keep say price gouge.
5970 is 250 dollars cheaper in Canada then 2x5870 cards.

5970 is 2x5870 ATI had to lower clocks to get this card to the under 300 watt thing, but they are saying and giving tools so it can overclock like a 5870.

Also said this before,Video cards are cheaper now then years past.
A couple a video cards I bought in the past

ATI9800XT was 800 Canadian when bought.
68000ULTRA was 855 Canadian when bought.
5970 was 749 Canadian when bought and also delivered to.
So this card is cheap and the best card on the market.

For anyone wanting a card 5970,5870,5850 in stock in Canada try out this site they always have stock

in the states 8800gtx's ran about $600 at launch. look, ati released the 2900xt for about $400 because they knew it couldn't compete with the 8800gtx. they took another huge gamble by selling the 48xx for much less than what they were worth comparatively to the gtx2xx series cards. we're living with the reverberations of those decisions today because soon after both companies took turns low balling each other. noobs or users with short memories totally gloss over this fact. now price shock sets in whenever a card comes to market priced over $400. remove the r600 debacle, two years later the 5870 launches at $600 and no one blinks.

I have 4 six-pin power connectors.

Will there be a dongle thing in the box, so that I can convert 2 six-pin power connectors into 1 eight-pin? If not, could somebody link me to what I need at the Canadian version of NewEgg's website. I have no idea what I need.

yeah I remember the 6800 ultras when they came out were over $800CAD and people bought them. $700 is alright considering you are essentially getting 2 5870s. And correct me if I'm wrong, but you can do eyefinity on the 5970 using both gpu's where there still isn't eyefinity support for crossfired 58x0's yet.

Yeah the old 855 dollar 6800ultra AGP card.
I actually tested the 6800 out a few months ago with Crysis
an run Crysis ok with some very high setting like sunshafts on.

Pics 6800 ultra and AMD single core FX55 CPU with driver 182.06
Crysis with almost all high with sunshafts turned on.

5970 its crossfire supports EyeFinity.
5870 crossfire does not yet support EyeFinity ,which is sad.

Ouch, glad I don't live in CA. Those taxes are simply EVIL.

PS3 I thought you just bought a GTX 295. What in the world do you need a 5970 for? You gonna stick them on a Hydra motherboard? LOL. =)

It's that 1366x768 resolution he's running that's just screaming for more power!

holy crap. more like $734 after CA Tax...and...pause for before I puke...$765...

Sorry but there is no way the 5970 is worth that much. Aint No way, no how people. Special thanks to Nvidia for providing no competition and allowing these price gouges to continue. :p

I wouldn't say continue, I say just beginning. 5850/70 are not at all over-priced IMO.

Yeah it's a good deal if you're after more than just a 5870, lets face it the 5870 is a lot of power on one card but anyone with crossfire 4870 (me) or a 4870x2 you're already running that much power minus DX11.

The only really decent upgrade path for people running high end rigs from the last gen is to go for a 5870 crossfire rig which at the moment is very expensive with shortages the price is £680+ where as a 5970 can be got for under £500, I got my pre-order for £443.

The prices are being hiked across the board, it's due to shortage of 40nm chips, it has nothing to do with ATI raising the price, they dont see another penny from stores jacking their prices.

And the hardware inside the 5970 is basically 2x 5870, the memory is rated for 5000Mhz DDR so with the right amount of voltage you can easily match or beat the 5870 memory speeds of 4800Mhz, the core will also go to 900Mhz in most cases, which exceeds the 5870 speed. Not only can this card clock to 5870 speeds but beyond.

People pushing 1300 (5,200) memory are going to be on 333GB/sec of memory bandwidth, that is just insane.

The memory is rated at 5000Mhz at 1.5 volts, quite a bit more than 1.15v the oc tool allows. But yeah, the memory overclocks look good so far.
