At these prices, you would be crazy to buy though.

It's too much for a 4890 clone. The 5830 was a huge disappointment for me.
Look at the below review. 4890 bests the 5830 in all tests

Shame the XFX isn't out yet... it looks to be a smaller PCB. Would fit nicely in a mid-tower; I had to go with a 5770 because the 5850 was too large, so if the XFX 5830 is roughly the same size...

Dizzam, for that price why would anyone not simply save up a bit more for a 5850?
doesn't make sense that the 4890 is faster at all, the 5830 outclasses it in every spec except core clock speed. I'd figure the 30% more shaders would make up for the 6% more clock speed
Yeah, just checked that. Seems the photo makes it look smaller than it is. Oh well.
I do wonder when/if we'll get smaller 5800-series cards, though! An 8.5 inch 5870 or 5850 from an AIB would be great.
Or buy a different case.Hell, my case has a volume of less than 13 liters and fits a 5850 with room to spare, and could also fit a 5870.

HD5830 is a FLOP until prices drop below $200.
Hell I got my HD5850 for $250 shipped shortly after launch.

Overclocked the 5830 seems to shine though

But i agree, i was well up for this graphics card until i saw the price.
problem is that it can always be argued that the 4890 can also be overclocked.
The XFX website says it is 9.5 inches.
the 5830 can't do eyeinfinity either, sorry bro
playing what, Tetris? Half Life 1? Solitaire?
amazingly, none of those games actually tax your video card
I like how you missed the whole point of what I was saying, sure your 5770 can do eyeinfinity with games that do NOT tax your video card

I didn't miss any point, you said it couldn't do it but it does, even before you knew what games I played. There are lots of videos of driving and flight sims on you tube running just fine on one
The new AvP game is pretty taxing so I don't know what your talking about there. LoTRO is pretty taxing with everything on, Bioshock isn't a slouch either so honestly I don't know where your getting your info from, but the 5770 runs it just fine in eyefinity. Sure it isn't the ideal solution, but grabbing a second one is a cheaper solution then grabbing a 5850 or higher if you really need to turn everything on in every game available, except crysis or Stalker with mod packs.

Reviews are literally all over the place, which is both a good thing and a bad thing for the 5830. Anand might have gotten an irregularly bad card, or [H]ard might have gotten a good one. Either way, it's not really looking like a consistent GPU which is something that should be valued.
