How bad will those cards struggle with 3x30's? Even worth it? Only reason I even ask is there is a set of 5770's on craigslist http://cleveland.craigslist.org/sys/1567824879.html nicely priced. I know they are equivalent to one 5870 but being a user of 30" LCD's and gaming at 2560x1600 I know that resolution is very taxing (gaming) let alone 7680x1600

You are going to need an enthusiast card to play at that res. If you can afford 3 30" LCD's you can afford a real GPU to drive them.

I'd say you need at least a 5970+5850 or three 5850s to properly drive 3 30 inchers. In recent games that is.

Muthafckin WORD.

I want to do 3 x 30" as I'd only need one more, but I'm now of the opinion that it's pointless to waste money and GPU power to drive those peripheral monitors at 2560x1600. I still want to do three 30's for the sheer size because 22's and 24's are just too horizontally thin after coming from a 37" Westy and now my 30" Dells, but I'm going to hold off until we are allowed to mix resolutions because 2560x1600 on the center monitor and 1280x800 on the side monitors should be perfectly acceptable given how 1280x800 scales.

If you don't want to fork out for the required GPU power, either run your 30's at a lower resolution to ease the burden on the card(s) or downsize to 3 x 27" or 28" diplays that run natively at 1920x1200.

Yeah, it seems kind of wasteful to push out so many extra pixels for the side-vision only :(...

you could play games on them easily just not crysis type games with uber high settings.

I wouldn't go 3x30" unless I had two 5870s or a 5970.

I already had 2 30" LCD's just picked a 3rd My options where to sell one and get 3 24's or keep what I have and add another.

I did pick-up the cards from craigs just installed and will have to wait a few days until my DP adapter comes in to try 3x30" eyefinity setup :D I figured for the low price (basically 5870 on the cheap) I'd have something to mess around with until offerings from nvidia finally launch...

this guys video's are being played on a single 5870. The CF config the OP could play the same games at the same resolutions in the video. The point being, you would be okay with 5770s in CF.

Look at this guys other videos where he's playing on 3x30s. It looks pretty good for a single card heh? He has a 5970 but these vids were taken before that purchase. What he has a chance to buy on Craigslist is crazy good. If anything, you can play with these until u get tired or buy them and sell them to me.

edit: just read u purchased the cards. Good 4 u man. too hard to pass on IMO.

Nice! Very encouraging, seems like a nice solution for a little while yet (until I gather a bit more cash for a more permanent solution) :) Thanks for the link.

I was able to get 950/1400 so far still working on it though. What are others getting with these as far as clocks go?

I was able to max the clockspeeds on my cf'd 5770's, it runs pretty solid.

I have doubt he is running at full resolution... with my 5970 Crysis is just playable at 2560x1600. I couldn't imagine it running that smooth at 7680x1600 with only a 5870.

He says right in the video he is playing at 7680x1600 @ Gamer settings.

3x30" is 2560x1600x3 pixels, that's 12Mpix...you'd probably need a dual 5970 rig to power that and keep all your settings high/max. Seriously 2 5770s are going to get badly owned trying to run that res.

It's the 30" owners dillema, getting 2 more 30" for eyefinity is not only incredibly expensive and needs a mega-desk, but theres nothing that will comfortably power that kind of resolution. A 3x24" is a much better sweet spot but would involve you either having a lot of disposible income or selling your 30", I know I can't sell mine :)

Definitely go with at least a 5870. It's not worth running 2x 5770. If the 5870 is not enough, you might have to go with 2 of them or a single 5970, whichever you prefer. Although finding a pair of 5870 is a lot easier than finding a 5970 right now.

But everything I've read indicates that 2x 5770 = 1 5870, and he got the two 5770s for much less than the price of one 5870. The only disadvantages I can see are the obvious ones that apply to multi-GPU setups (heat, power, being limited to 1 5770 in games that don't support CF, etc.).
