Hey guys im lookin for some advice on a gaming build for a buddy.
Its mostly gonna be used for playing wow along with normal day to day browsing.

He is looking to spend about 500-600 on it.

What he needs:
Case, PSU, CPU, mobo, ram, hdd, video card

reusing 1920x1080 monitor, keyboard/mouse, dvd drive

do not have a windows license will be going with win7 x64 so thats $100 off the bat so id like to keep it around 500 for the hardware.

as far as hardware goes im thinking its going to have to be an AMD to stay within budget, but i have absolutely no experience with AMD cpus at all.

as far as parts go im thinking it will probably be a radeon 5770, antec 520c psu, 4gb of ram, and a 500gb hdd.

hopin to get some advice on some cpu/mobo combos that will be good for wow. thanks in advance!

forgot a few things, will be ordering within the next 2 weeks, live in PA prefer to order everything from newegg.

Just answer these last three questions and we can start helping:
6) Will you be overclocking?
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? Multiple PCI-E x16 slots? etc.

No, do not plan on overclocking.
Dont require anything special with the mobo, will be a single video card, single hdd so no raid, usb3 would be nice for a future standpoint but by no means required.

the only difference i can see is the one danny linked has sata 6gbs and this one doesnt, and the onboard is better but there will be a dedicated gpu anyways. but that combo has the slightly faster cpu and is slightly cheaper.
i think i can go without the sata 6gbs and slower onboard if thats the only major difference.

Other big difference is the number of ram slots. But starting with a single 4gb stock that's not an issue.

don't they both have 4 ram slots? would probably go with 2 2gb sticks for dual channel and its about the same price as 1 4gb stick

I wouldn't recommend it since it would limit your RAM upgrade path. Plus Dual channel only provides a 5% performance increase under the most ideal of conditions.

im a little confused as to why you would recommend a 6850, an on board card or at the very least a super cheap discrete gpu would get the job done for a lot less money. the guy isnt looking to play games, he wants this pc or business, those extra coins should be spent on cpu, ram, or HDDs, imo.

wow.. you would think that the title being "~$500 wow build" would have given some clue that maybe the OP wanted to play wow. But yeah.. What Danny Said.
