Still loading Vista and crap so no benchmarks/overclocking yet

Update, Vatange score is P19755 3DMarks
not bad considering the CPU is only 3.6 on the new motherboard and cards are at default clocks.

for reference my two 4870 cards in crossfire with the cpu @ 8x500 @ 4.0 scored just over 16,500

but there nice looking cards :) i still need to finalize this but waiting on my 8 pin power extension to clean up the cables

This is very close to My GTX 280 Single card with a q9450 @ 4.0 (8x500)
Same as my 4870 x Two in crossfire

the difference being im using 4x AA (12x edge detect on these 4870x2 cards in crossfire, where I didn't on the other setups) , also my Q9450 is 8x450 (3.6) on this new board which seems to affect 3dmark 06 and Vantage alot, yet game play is much better

Wowza looks bad ass! How far to the cards extend past the front of the motherboard? Looks to be about an inch to me but just want to double check.
 
yeah would be about an inch

or 25 mm for the rest of the world, cough :)

not like the one Asus cards have.. yuck lol
 
i had a 30" from work, i don't like it for gaming i find it too large, i would need a deeper desk to move it away... so defeats the purpose :)

lol still loading drivers and updates... need to download the crysis tool, the only thing i use it for is testing, the game itself and the engine suck

<gasp> "too large!!!???" haha well I'm sure it looks damn good @ 1920 x 1200 too, argh stupid UPS (mine is supposed to arrive today, but still nothing...UPS U POS!!!)
 
just seems like your looking around the screen lke the front row at a movie theater, and i like the lights out so you end up turning the brightness down so you don't get a head ache... i find the 24" just about right

i use the 50" plasma upstairs sometimes but its also 15'away or so

thermalright coolers are awsome, they just take up a TON of room and dump ALOT of heat into the case when using two
 
OK well, that does it, I was trying to hold my load but after seeing that, I'm blowing!

I knew I was going to get the card soon and have been debating getting a Rampage Formula instead of waiting for next year and the i7's to come down in price but you have successfully just made me make flame marks off my credit card.

I was tempted to build a XFire, but I'd also need a 30in to see much difference from my SLI'd GTX280s at 1920x1200.
Might grab the Gateway XHD3000 while waiting for Nehalem for a new build.
 
Shit, I could do exactly like you, but then my landlord would be like, "where is the fucking rent?!!!!??:" Or I'd be eating top ramen for a couple weeks.
 
nice but having two of those cards is a waste of money especially if you are not even gaming on a 30inch monitor. you would get the same results in 95% benchmarks at 1920 with a single 4870x2. this is Hardforum though so most people are impressed even though common sense doesnt seem to factor into the equation.

yes but 95% of all statistics are made up on the spot

but i do agree its overkill, however with a new house in the next month the wife said after this month my shopping ends for a while lol. on the other hand if not for the additional GPUS the additional ram itself should help for 1920x1200 4x aa and 16x af settings

quite frankly i don't care what my crysis score says (its a poor game build around nvidia anyways), Future mark apps are only useful for testing overclocks and drivers for stability ... long as i see smooth game play as high settings i dont care if im at 45 or 145 fps really

You can make vantage scores go up or down almost 1000 points going from 3.6-4.0 on the cpu

CCC 8.7-8.8 beta gained almost 1000 on my 4870 crossfire setup

I just know im waiting hand and foot on SC2 and D3, nothing else interest's me right now aside from good old TF2 which would run just fine on an 8800gt as well, and being Blizzard is in bed with ATI is a good thing.

WOW was boring and addictive, AOC was a huge flop (anyone wana buy my collectors edition with mammoth? lmao)

Also helps i have an "allowance" with work to stay up to date with new hardware to help cover some costs, otherwise i wouldn't have bought 2 :)

well looking around at some of the 4870x2 crossfire benchies I have only seen 2 games that actually gained more than 1 fps at 1920 and that was HL2 Ep2 and GRID in the review at techreport. other than those the second card showed basically no benefit. surprisingly even going up to 2560 still only made a difference in those same two games. :cool:

hey i got a question the heatsink you have are both of the fans blowing the same way? and does it lower the temps dramatically compared to just one fan?
 
only 2-3 degree drop with the second fan but they are blowing the same direction (out the back)

only used 2 since they are silent fans, i imagine a single louder one would work just as well

ive seen the benchmarks, but i imagine things will change with new drivers, i had a huge improvement with the 8.8 beta over the 8.7 on my cross fired 4870's

there isnt even "official" 4870x2 drivers on the ati site yet
 
damn! i would have built a rig like that for myslef, but sadly Nehalem has changed my mind and im now waiting until october. But i am getting one 4870 x2 to keep me satisfied while i wait for Nehalem and all the new mobo's and such to get releasd. And again, awesome rig!
 
im hoping i can reuse there in a new chip/mobo down the road and theyll still be good lol

odds are they will be better in 3 months with new drivers on any board

@everyone whining because they have a shit-ass 8600: Ok so it might be overkill now but he won't have to upgrade his video cards for a long time. If he sells them in a year or two he'll still get a good price for them. He had the money and got something awesome.
