So is this specact kit just a bunch of new skins? I heard talk about some other kit before that had weapon upgrades.

So what you get are 4 additional SPECACT kits, and 4 SPECACT weapons. You can use any weapons in any kits. The difference with the weapons and kits are only cosmetic though. So is there a benefit to it? Eh, sorta. There are a few things:

1) As I said, you get new kits. That means you can have an alternate kit setup for each spec that you can quickly switch to. Two different assault specs, not just one. Only a minor convenience, but there you go.

2) The SPECACT kits are harder to see on some maps. Like the Russian medics don't have the red "shoot me" beret anymore. However since they don't change colours with the terrain, on others they are easier to see.

3) The guns are new weapons that thus offer new stars if you've already platinumed in their normal versions and need more points. Plus if you use the SA weapon and kit you get bonus pins for certain numbers of kills in a round/life.

It is quite minor over all, but not 100% worthless.

EDIT: They activate through the redeem ingame and get added to your EA account, Steam in this case (with the exception of the main game) is irrelevant. There is an excellent Q&A in then Steam forum about it.

Thanks OP. I plan to get the Vietnam expansion when I get home. I've been waiting for it to dip below $10 since getting Bad Company during the Steam Holiday Sale.
 
Is the single player campaign worth 10$? (Plan to get it on impulse).

Also, any idea if the key works on steam?

Main game needs to be purchased on Steam to be tight to your Steam account, all other keys get entered in game and are added to your EA account (DLC, like Vietnam and SPECACT) so it doesn't matter where you get it from.

For BC2? Not at all. Worthless campaign. Would have been better to just leave it out and go with pure multi-player.

Well ok, I mean the visuals are nice, and you get to shoot at things, but the voice acting is lame and the story is useless. It is not an engaging campaign at all. Also all the levels, guns, models, etc, are the same stuff as you see in multi-player which is why they are good.

I played it a bit but got bored real fast. The multi-player though, that is fun.
 
You're going to be holding out for quite a while... $10 isn't that much to tide you over until then.
 
I just picked up Vietnam. I have been waiting for it to go on sale since I picked up BC2 over the steam Christmas sales.
 
god dammit i just bought battlefield vietnam exp pack for bfbc2 yesterday or 2 days ago at full price.
 
I was about to order BC2 on Amazon (I like having physical copies of games, I'm weird I know) but now I can get both BC2 + Vietnam for the price of a box copy of BC2. Thanks for posting!

I see Vietnam listed but I keep getting "payment authorization failed" when I try to check out. Tried multiple credit cards too

Edit: Even after chatting with them they say the billing address I'm entering is different than what's on file with my bank. Called up my bank and it's the same. EA Store fail

Edit #2: Spoke with EA live chat three times and eventually they unlocked the game for me for free. Nice!
