Is it really the MSRP or just want retailers are charging because of demand? Microcenter is charging out the wazzoo for Radeons for whatever reason. That's how I ended with up a 3080. I wanted a 6800 XT, just wasn't meant to be in this market.
Welcome to camp.My understanding is that these are comparable cards (though AMD w/o DLSS and RT). Why is it that MSRP for the 6800 XT is so much greater than the 3080 for a lot of the 3rd party manufacturers?
My nephew bought a 6800 on a Newegg shuffle for something like $1100? His money I guess...So I originally wanted a 6800 non-xt but couldn't get one for any less than the 3080. I ended up buying a 3080 strix. After rolling my eyes at the 6800 non-xt for 950 dollars....
Ouch! I felt violated after buying the Sapphire Nitro+ 6800 for $829 off the shuffle a few months ago.My nephew bought a 6800 on a Newegg shuffle for something like $1100? His money I guess...
I bought a Zotac 3070 for $650+tax/shipping back in February. Even that made me feel gross. It was within my original budget, but over $600 for a 70 class card felt dirty.Ouch! I felt violated after buying the Sapphire Nitro+ 6800 for $829 off the shuffle a few months ago.
I don't see the AMD cards that desirable. They don't mine well and AiB are way over priced. Scalpers in my area are not even asking much over msrp for them. My MC has stock all the time for AMD cards. They are a hard sell when you can get 3080 for the price of a 6700.Welcome to camp.
This was my exact question on seeing the absolutely ridiculous price the AMD 6800 series was commanding over the RTX3080 series.
All I can guess is that the amount of VRAM made the AMD card a bit more desirable to VRAM watchers.
Psychologically, most folks who'd owned top end GPUs initially balked at 10GB...even though it was the faster GDDR6X.
That, coupled with limited production compared to RTX3080 series seems to have driven the desire and the price.
The MSRP for AMD branded cards were. All the AiB went full retard on their pricing. The original MSRP for the 6800xt was $50 less than the 3080 -- $650 vs $700. This market is wild! >.>
Yeah they do releases on Thursdays so you have a shot at trying then.Yeah true, just talkin' reference vs reference. Does AMD still do releases via their store on Thursdays and are they still even sort of attainable?
AMD sells their cards for MSRP right on their own website. Its not an AMD problem.IIRC Scalpers have the 3080 higher than the 6800 cards. My thinking on the retail price being higher was more along the lines of AMD wanting more money (they have bait and switched on prices before?). But maybe their partners want more money.
Do they? I've checked their website for 9 months now. I've never seen any of their graphics cards in stock. I guess they must be selling them, just not to me!AMD sells their cards for MSRP right on their own website. Its not an AMD problem.

Thanks for the info. Yes, sometimes I'll check their "Graphics Cards" in the shop section and it'll just send me an error or that it couldn't find what I searched.Last I remember, they stocked the online store on Thursdays but usually in short supply and it sells out quickly. Also the site is bad about crashing like every other site that is slinging cards hah.
They post graphics cards potentially on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Sometime before noon. I've seen as early as like 8:30am.Do they? I've checked their website for 9 months now. I've never seen any of their graphics cards in stock. I guess they must be selling them, just not to me!
Its Microshitter. They sell them for whatever amount people are willing to pay. I'm sure AMD doesn't mind.Saw a whole bunch of 6800 XT's in stock at my local Micro Center last week when I went in for something else I needed. They didn't have any stickers on them, but looking up the out of stock listing online they are at least $1300.
See there's scalpers and then there's this. How does a $650 MSRP card suddenly MSRP for $1300+? Is it the AIB's? Something else? AIB's definitely marked up from the FE cards on Nvidia's side, but not 100% markup.
In this case its not microcenter its the aib's that are marking up amd harder than nvidia cards. See here in this 6700xt review msi quoted their own msrp being $789.99 which is hilarious. Its Microshitter. They sell them for whatever amount people are willing to pay. I'm sure AMD doesn't mind.

The last couple of GPU drops seemed to instantly sell out. I think bots found a new exploit there, or something. Before, GPUs were up for at least a few minutes.
AMD MSRP =/= AiB MSRP ffs. Why can't people understand this?Saw a whole bunch of 6800 XT's in stock at my local Micro Center last week when I went in for something else I needed. They didn't have any stickers on them, but looking up the out of stock listing online they are at least $1300.

MC is not scalping the cards. It is the AiB jacking up the prices on them. There are no AiB cards out there atm that are in line with AMD's MSRP other then directly from AMD's. The blame is squarely on AMD and it's AiB partners. While Nvidia cards are a little out there it seem Nvidia is somewhat keeping AiB pricing in check. Its Microshitter. They sell them for whatever amount people are willing to pay. I'm sure AMD doesn't mind.
I understand this, but seriously a 100% markup or more between reference and AIB? Somethings fishy there.AMD MSRP =/= AiB MSRP ffs. Why can't people understand this?
Nothing fishy. AiB are just greedy and bending people over. They see how much shit is going for and they want in on it. AMD is at fault more then anyone cause they are doing nothing to curtail it.I understand this, but seriously a 100% markup or more between reference and AIB? Somethings fishy there.
AMD is too busy making consoles to worry about PC gaming cards, at least how it appears to me. Even at that AMD cannot supply enough of the Console APUs, unless something else is holding up the consoles.I watched a YT commenter and he went through the Steam hardware survey, and there were zero 6000 series cards listed. All of Nvidia's charted.
Could it be that they are making so few?
1080ti is nowhere near a 2080ti, which is basically the same speed as a 3060ti/3070.It is amazing how many people will settle for over-priced nonsense.
A 3060Ti for $1300 really?
I sold a GTX1080Ti because I wanted a bit more VR reserve.
Why would I buy a card that can barely match it in VR?
No, it's reportedly the apus.AMD is too busy making consoles to worry about PC gaming cards, at least how it appears to me. Even at that AMD cannot supply enough of the Console APUs, unless something else is holding up the consoles.

Really? I've managed to snag 2 6900 XTs and a 6800XT from AMD directly at MSRP.
Recently? I haven't seen too many cards (if any) on their recent Thursday drops.
A while back the percentages of TSMC 7nm chips going to AMD were listed and RDNA2 was basically bottom of the list past consoles, server chips, desktop chips, etc.I watched a YT commenter and he went through the Steam hardware survey, and there were zero 6000 series cards listed.
