WARNING: POST CONTAINS LARGE AMOUNTS OF POINTS AND STATS PRON:

It should be clear by now that I cannot help making these kinds of posts, :eek: the SR2 bug has bitten deep, and I might as well share the love before something else comes along. The [H] top 20 for most of us is the definition of 15 minutes of fame. :rolleyes:

My first 7 days of 3 SR2s being online, and it was a beauty, as it coincided exactly with the bigadv drought breaking. It was a week of "3's"

* 3 SR2s
* 3 million in a week :D
* up 30 places this week
* 3.8 hours downtime :(
* Despite 30C + degree weather :cool:

Also a week of 10's - broke into:

* 10 million points
* [H] top 100
* Top 1000 for project.

So what does 3 SR2's get you this week?

#1 rank in EVGA (had I stayed) :rolleyes:
#13 in world :)

and of course, drum roll.....

a distant, distant #2 in [H]: :D:p:D (Also known as the [H]ome of [H]eckler Koc[H])

9 [H] in top 50 in the world = the [H]ardest team = GO [H]ORDE :cool:

Folding and actually getting 100% bigadv was a very surreal experience - which reminds me, hello bwm at #26. How are those "optimised exclusively for bigadv" machines going on a level playing field? Did your ears pop? ;)

- averaging 432,000 ppd, or 89% of capacity. 144,000 ppd per SR2.

4.1% of team output for week (HK was 6.9%!!!)

As fun as this is for me, I still think the bigadv points system needs some work. Someone mentioned in another thread that I was getting comparable output to Atlasfolder. I had a look, and it seems I am in the same ballpark. I know his farm is last gen GPUs, but would anyone say that my 25 work units did a comparable amount of science as his ~1000 work units? Right now, what is the incentive to set up GPU farms?

original.jpg

The comparison to that Atlas Folder guy might not be fair as he is not necessarily interested in the efficiency aspect the same way many of us folders are. He chooses to run those GPU's because I remember that he was more interested in the science that was being done. I remember reading on his home page that his interests in folding are due to a disease that affects his family. While you definately can be more efficient running a fleet of SR2's with the bigadv stuff, this project in the past has been used to explore stuff about how the flu virus infects cells if i'm not mistaken.

All I can say is that you have accomplished a tremendous amount both on the level of production and equipment builds. :cool: :cool:

I won't get into the bonus system discrepancies here knowing full well the range of emotions it elicits and the fact I went into detail about the controversy in at least 2 or 3 threads since the summer. With specific concerns to the research itself, I have my doubts but believe only someone with a PhD or a project founder can truly reply knowledgeably which method is better for the research.

Right now, what is the incentive to set up GPU farms?
None other than production consistency, possibly more science research and for some, the lower up front cost (depending on scale of GPU farm) because cheap used GPU components abound.

Okay then,,,, time to build three more SR-2's. You need them for 3D work anyway,,,, right?

Build a rack of SR-2's that look pretty. Just make they are ready to ship to Tulsa once you have them looking all nice from the visual and management viewpoints.

Nice run O BigAdv!

My hat is off to all three of you (as well as the rest of the [H]orde!) for your incredible donations :)

Yeah he's interested in curing Huntington's Disease which has/is affecting his family (going from memory).

That's quite the accomplishment mr. may i be worthy or folding thunder from down under!, especially considering the number of machines.

It's always a nice thing to see BigAdvs in good supply! Keep it up!

Folding Thunder from Down Under...I like it!

Now if it weren't for that nasty little chihuahua still nipping at your heals for that #2 spot...you don't need three SR-2s to love the bigadv resurgence... :)

lol, thanks a bundle for that 10e, as if MIBW wasn't unwieldy enough, now I am FTFDU?! (while folding under a third name?!) :confused:

FTFDU <= totally looks like you are telling someone to shove something somewhere unpleasant. Well I suppose it can help confuse our enemies - did you hear about the 3 guys in [H], all with 3 SR2s? :p

But yes, some 2684s and 2 brief power outages have pushed back my next "bigadv bumper day" until the day after tomorrow.... just enough time for the nippers. I love this, every time I add something new bungee-Musky dusts off another spare hexcore and steps up another notch.:cool:

Re: Atlas - yes, I presumed there was some good reason he was keeping the farm going, rather than retiring it and funding a fleet of SR2s from the power savings.

@HK - right, 3 more SR2s... gulp... I will see what I can do.:eek:

@Apollo - you are admirable in your restraint. Every time I write a SR2/ppd pron thread I think awww this is gunna give poor Apollo an ulcer... Thanks mate.

EDIT: wow, no sooner do I write this and it is becoming apparent that these irregular bigadvs boost makes it very hard to call even a 7 day race...Musky has made up huge ground, in All donors there is a pack of 5 of us between 2,900,000 and 3,000,000 for last 7 days. I am down 4 spots to 17th, revise my statement in the OP to be top 3 for EVGA - Punchy and mmillion are floating all over the place. It's a furball!

That's a lot of points in production with those machines, well done.
Although I won't be buying three SR-2s :)

None the less you are accomplishing a serious Folding . .

Congrats !

Don't get me or Apollo started on the points vs units thing. ;)
I'm due to pass pageian by the end of the week, but I take no pleasure in passing a [H]orde member who's produced almost 115,000 work units for the cause to my measly 42,000.

Now Dephcon, I enjoyed passing :D (he mowed me last Jan.)

It is impressive how the SR-2 has changed the landscape of folding.

I'd love to shoot for the top 5, but those are some stratospheric numbers.

Last year, I was comfortably in the top 20 and this year, well I had to get an SR-2 to stay in it. I am still running 2 i7 920's, 3x GTX285's, 1x 9800GX2 and a handful of lappies. Am really considering an upgrade to my sig rig and have been buying little parts here and there, but it'll likely be late Q1 before I can gather all of the parts.

And in 2007-2008, I was #1 - #3 of the [H]orde and touched the 63th rank worldwide with my smp farm (20-22 E6300 running A1 and A2 WU)... It's a far cry from today's numbers which put my stats in shame !

It's a fun read ;)

Re: Atlas - yes, I presumed there was some good reason he was keeping the farm going, rather than retiring it and funding a fleet of SR2s from the power savings.
Yeah, it's specific research he's interested in. It was never a pure PPD effort, otherwise it's certain he would have implemented a lot of SMP clients even before -bigadv was released.

@Apollo - you are admirable in your restraint. Every time I write a SR2/ppd pron thread I think awww this is gunna give poor Apollo an ulcer... Thanks mate.
No problem. I figured most SR-2/hex owners have already seen my posts on the bonus system and know my opinions. They're probably just as tired reading the same criticism over and over again as everyone else. That said, it would be nice to see a direct response from PG about the science GPU and other clients produce vs -bigadv. For me, it was always an equal affair, meaning, I fold as much for the science as anything else, probably more so. If I discover that my 20+ GPU/SMP clients are producing equal or less science than a single SR-2 dual hex-core -bigadv machine, then I know I have been deceiving myself and will look elsewhere.

Wait, how does the foot fetish mousepad fit in this thread?

Oh, and freaking huge congrats to our top folders. This team would be in big trouble without you.

@ HK - Yup :D And I notice you are at only 978,000 for the day so far - is everything ok? Are you sick? :p

And it is not over yet - today is also my pent-up payoff day - an hour and a bit to go, and 1, maybe 2 more to drop, although the last one might miss by 10 mins.:rolleyes: (the swedish server is a fraction slower) So it could have been a 6 unit 750,000 point day, but will probably be 5 for 630,000.

@Musky - yes, I have been sweating the last few days - looking at HFM showing solid 480,000 ppd, yet my output being 360,000 building up to payday, and a certain nemesis ahead of me since Sunday - and even pulling ahead today on 7day rolling average - So whatever you did, well done! - see how much nicer your spare hexcores are when actually burning bigadv? :p

But I have to shut down to do some render work. And I am sure I will sneak some testing in too. This PAINS me to do - nothing but bigadv is hard to miss out on.

So this is the final spread of units since the drought broke 10 days ago:

SR2#1 #2 #3
6900 2684 6900
6900 6900 2685
2685 2686 6900
6900 2685 2692
2684 6900 2685
....... 6900 2684
6900 6900 .......
2686 2686 2684
2685 6900 6900 g2 and g3
2685 2685 2685
2686 6900 6900 g2 and g3!
6900 6900 6900 all G0s

Unit WU
6900 17 50%
2685 8 24%
2684 4 12%
2686 4 12%
2692 1 3%

Total 34

But I went through hell again on SR2#1 last night - I rebooted for Windows update, and drew a new G0 - 6900. Either the reboot mucked things, but this 6900 is having hung frames again - I had to bump up vcore 2 notches to make it run smoothly. Will investigate further - I have saved the WU to test with. And this is the funny bit - this always seems to happen to SR2#1 with extreme humidity - :confused: WTF? - we had a cool change come through with thunderstorms etc:

@jebo &Kendrak - I recommend Hex-Hexcores as a nice number :p

Sr1 is the old lady with arthritic knee that aches with changing weather patterns.

Hex hex eh?

I'll ask the wife
Posted via [H] Mobile Device

Yup, annoying old lady whining for more vcore. I don't check my weather app anymore, I look for "Hung" on HFM. :rolleyes:

Most wives don't have to be witches to put a hex on hex-hex. :eek:

My points did not show up in time! The one that missed by 3 minutes was understandable, but the other from a hour before still got shunted into the next day. Now each time that happens kids, Musky gets the false impression that he can beat me. :eek::p

Well, got a reprieve from client who can;t make up their mind - can squeeze in another round of bigadv - so tomorrow should be the bloody payday with 5 dropping for about 620,000. Unless I find a new way to f that up.

I'll only have 4 drop for a paltry 430K. I guess you can keep your position for another day...

Heh, exactly! I still haven't solved the problem of how to earn a living without occasionally using these things for work. :rolleyes:

So it is a pretty fleeting co-shared number 2, but hey, grab it while I can I reckon. Soon even 3 SR2s will be uncompetitive. I think I will look back on this last week as the highlight. Good times... good times.

I feel like an old fart already!

I'm hoping to go quad hex after Xmas and stick with my tri-hex for now. We'll see how it goes. Hex-Hex is a bit of a ways off for me.

Have a beer and reminisce about it!

I'll do that next week while I'm on vacation. That "FTFU MIBW"! Helluva guy!

Ok, really final wrap up now the payday is in.

Now at 11th in world, I can retire happy now.:cool:

But I have to say, the last several days I have been trading places with Mr Musky depending on when we dropped. You would have to call our farms pretty even now and too close to call - it comes down to and what point in the day you measure, and who draws the most 2684s, and I had a very good run to end that period. Since when can you go 10 days running FAH and average 91% capacity? Thats crazy talk. ;)

So big props to Musky, for only giving me like 2 whole days as a clear number 2 in [H] before adding moar D and catching up. This is [H]. Nobody rests. :cool:

Anyway, I will certainly be mentioning this week at the FAH 50 year reunion. Glory days. Be warned. :rolleyes:;)

@10e - WTF is FTFU?:p I googled, but only got http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Ftfu

I think he missed the "D" - FTFDU - that one may stick, especially since we don't many (if any) other Aussies folding for us, and certainly none as [H]ard as you, my friend.

My "ramp" this last week was just the result of the WUs I got. The only thing I did was squeeze a little more out of one of the SR-2s with higher Vcore. Otherwise, the farm is the same as it has been for the last month or so. I hadn't downloaded anything but 2686s and 6900s until yesterday when I picked up a couple of 2684s and a slow 2685, so I was very close to 100% capacity over this run.

Sorry I'm a latecomer to this thread, but the basic reason that I haven't transitioned to SR-2s doing bigadv is pretty straightforward.

1) I'm waiting to see what nVidia comes up with as a dual GPU option utilizing the Fermi architecture. Since I have the motherboards and PSUs to drive this kind of setup it's attractive to me. Admittedly this wait has been longer than I thought it would be...

2) I have an enormous financial investment in the existing equipment and would take a very big hit to sell it off. The number of man-hours needed to transition to SR-2s would be significant as well.

3) It's not about the points for me, but from a points perspective I'm still not sure that bigadv isn't going to be adjusted or go away (one topic of this thread). Plus there are bigadv droughts...

4) It's set up and running doing ~500k a day, so meh.

Yes the 9800GX2's are certainly long in the tooth now, and the GTX295's are no spring chickens either... As the farm starts to suffer end of life failures of motherboards (one's dead now), cards, PSUs, etc. I'll be forced into a decision. It's coming.

Thanks for the update Atlas. Good to hear from you.

Yep, need more "D" :D

Yeah it was a good Bigadv week last week. Between all my boxen I got around 2.5 - 2.6 million points.

Not "folding thunder from down under" category but not too shabby.

Let's see if the Quad box can usurp MIBW's top SR-2 as the team 33 leaderboxen, not leaderhosen :)

Thanks for dropping by Atlas. Amazing work you do, and even looking after half a dozen machines makes me tired - I don't know how you do it. Can I ask what you pay for power in you part of the world?

Go for it! Surely 48 cores can do it - mine only have 12 real ones.

And if you do, allow me to be the first to be leder-slapped :p

And to update the thread -work unit breakdown since the 6900 came out:

6900 48 56%
2685 17 20%
2684 9 10%
2686 10 12%
2692 2 2%

Total 86 ~ 10 million points.
