2016 CPU Progression Thread

Intel Pentium 66Mhz
AMD K7 600Mhz
Intel Pentium 4 1.7Ghz
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Intel Pentium 4 3.0C
AMD Athlon X2 4600+
Intel Core 2 Duo E6420
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
Intel Core i7 2600k
Intel Core i7 4770k
Soon...
Intel Core i7 5820k or Broadwell-E

AMD K5 116 mhz
AMD Athlon T-Bird 900 Mhz (huge boost, haha)
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 (my first dual core, I love this guy, felt a huge performance boost, still have it as a backup)
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (nice multitasking boost, in active use)
AMD Phenom II X4 840T (in active use)

I've had various CPU's in between but I don't really count them because they were sidegrades. I always wanted a Q6600, and from it onwards I have been pretty satisfied for light work/gaming and general usage, even on these older quads. The Phenom II machine is actually a pre-built HP system that had a failed hard drive and failed optical drive. The guy that had it was going to toss it. It had 3/4 dimm slots populated at 6GB, so I added another identical 2GB stick for 8GB, a GTX 960, and a 1 TB HD. It's now my everyday machine. Going to probably add an SSD as well. It's only has SATA2 interfaces, but the sequential increases I would gain from the newer SATA3 interface isn't a very big factor to me.

Intel Celeron 433 mhz
Intel Pentium 4 2.4B
Intel Pentium 4 2.4C
Intel Pentium 4 2.8C
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Intel i7 920
Intel i7 2600K
Intel i7 4770K
Intel i7 5960X ES (DIED :( )
Intel i7 5820K

I started much later than some of you! Here's my list, to the best of my memory

Intel 486 DX2 50
AMD 5x86 133
AMD K6 166
AMD K62 500
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (probably used this one the longest)
Intel Pentium 4 630
Intel Pentium D 945
Intel Pentium G850
Intel Xeon E3 1230 V2

I have a bunch, I won't bother listing all of them and I doubt I'd compete with Dan :p

486 DX2
P166 (cyrix 166 too)
300A
P2 450 (free upgrade)
P3 700
TBird 1400
Athlon 1800+
3000+
X2 4400+
X2 4850e
C2D 6300
C2Q 9450
i7 950
Pentium 3258
Xeon E3 V3

I didn't list the CPU's I didn't keep, or the ones I don't have in use (or used ever, have a few of them). My favorite was the 9450, ran at 3.6ghz since 2008 on a badass P5Q Pro board. I still have it running in my Plex box, best impulse buy ever.

AMD Athlon 64 3800+
Phenom II X4 965
i7 2600k
i5 3570k
i7 3770k
i7 5960x
i7 5820k
i5 6600k

I don't see myself upgrading the 5820k in the foreseeable future.

Intel Pentium 100MHz
Intel Pentium II 400MHz
Intel Pentium III 1,200MHz Tualatin
Intel Celeron 2.0GHz
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9775 (3.9GHz)
Intel Core i5 2500k (@4.8GHz)
Intel Core i5 6600k (@4.4GHz)

386DX 12MHz
486SX 25MHz
486DX2 66MHZ
Pentium 100MHz
Pentium II 266MHz
Duron 1000
Athlon XP 2400+
Athlon 64 2800+ 754
Athlon 64 3800+ 939

Athlon x2 5000+ BE AM2
C2D e6320
Athlon II x4 635
Phenom II x4 965 BE
Phenom II x6 1055T

Lots of overclocking between the Duron and the 965BE. Time for an upgrade soon I think, have had the 1055T since mid 2011

Thanks for the bump Dan_D!

Sadly, my list hasn't changed from the last thread.

Intel 386 DX 25MHz
Intel Pentium 90MHz
Intel Celeron 733MHz
Athlon XP 2600+ @ Stock
Athlon XP 3000+ @ Stock
Athlon X2 4200+ @ Stock
Intel Core2Duo e6300 @ 2.8GHz
Intel Core2Duo e6400 @ 3.2GHz (It fried when my power supply took out my computer)
Intel Core2Duo e6400 @ 2.6GHz
Intel Core2Duo e8400 @ 3.6GHz
AMD Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock
Intel Core i7 2600k @ Stock
Intel Core i7 2630QM @ Stock
Intel Core i7 3630QM @ Stock

I'll limit my list to my primary / gaming PC. Ever since about '94 I've had multiple computers around, for both family and my personal use. To illustrate, I have a gaming rig, a backup gaming rig, and three laptops that are mine (one laptop is work issued), among about 20 functioning PCs in the house (including a trio of HP 2U servers in my four post rack). If I listed everything I've ever owned we'd be here all day.

486DX2/66 (had a commodore before this)
AMD 488DX2/80 @ 120MHz (first overclock)
Pentium 90MHz
Pentium 133MHz
Pentium MMX 233MHz
Duron 600MHz - overclocked to 900MHz
Duron 1.4GHz - overclocked to 2.2GHz and pencil modded to an Athlon XP
Sempron 3100+ 1.8GHz - overclocked to 2.25GHz
C2D E6300
C2D E8400
i5 2500k

Still rocking the i5 with no urge to upgrade. It is clocked at 4.6GHz and water cooled.

Sheesh. That's tough to remember. Here are the ones that I recall. Not counting the Commodore VIC-20, C-64 and some Tandy.
Intel 286 - took my virginity
Intel 386 or two in there
Intel 486DX4
AMD K6-2-something (and who could forget the 3dfx Voodoo2 that was around this time!)
Intel Celeron 300a - stupid slot CPU era... but the 440BX chipset was great!
- More AMD in here somewhere...
- More Intel in here too. Builds were going on about every 6 months
Intel Q6600 (still have, not used, should get linux install soon)
Intel 2600K (soon to be #2 box)
Intel 2500 (was JBOD, now HTPC)
Intel 5820K (sitting on the table hoping to come alive later tonight (3/4/2016). CPU goes in mobo, rum goes in me.)

There will be others, but never a Cyrix or Apple.

MOS Technology (Commodore 64)
Intel 386sx
AMD 486DX4 100
Intel Celeron 333 - Enjoyed the novelty of the slot processors, overclocked it for a good while
