Shall I make a Part 2 thread?

Nah, let it die. This thing is full of random talk instead of workstations. In the future we'll start one that has no comments. Let it die for now though.

Yo i really like that room setup looks like mine :D

Here's a partial desk surface

desktop_sept06_surface.jpg

Lurking under the table

desktop_sept06_cpus.jpg

Front to back:
Athlon X2 4200+ 64 (XP Pro), 4GB, 1TB, 6800GT, RocketRaid 2320, M-Audio Delta 410
Dual G4 (OSX duh) 800mhz, 1.25GB, 80GB, M-Audio Delta 2496
Single P3 1Ghz (Linux server), 1.25GB, 200GB, Fedora Core 5
Single P2 (Linux firewall), 233Mhz, Astaro Linux
Along the bottom is an APC Smart-UPS 1000 RM2U. Not shown in the back is a Back-UPS ES 650 and a Back-UPS ES 500. These can run the whole rig for an as yet undetermined ammount of time, minus the speakers and the receiver.

Hideous mess in the back:

desktop_sept06_wires.jpg

I've attempted to keep this as clean as possible, but it's really difficult as there are so many freaking wires! I can't get them to behave properly.

The speakers are Tannoy Reveal Actives

tannoy.jpg

I have five of these and a Tannoy TS10 subwoofer to complete the 5.1 setup. The Yamaha receiver under the dell 2405 serves as a volume knob only using the preamp outputs (and for DVD decoding when I watch a DVD).

Another interesting geek thing in the setup which can't be seen so well is a Nikon LS9000ED film scanner, which is the silver thing in the extreme bottom right of the first pic I posted.

Edit: Oh yeah, the desk. It's an IKEA "Effectiv" desk. They don't make them anymore, but I have it in an L setup as has been noted. Behind the desk is an "Enteri" shelving unit, which allows me to have the desk be effectively about a foot deeper (and provides a nice place to put the left right and center monitor speakers as well as other crap). The grey shelves are some other kind of IKEA shelving that was cheap. The monitor is sitting on a rubbermaid wood shelf with ikea legs, and two more of these with smaller legs have the telephone, answering machine, modem and gigabit switch on them (behind the mixer).

Cheers,

-K

Awesome setup DarkSide. Couple questions. What are the specs of the Linux boxes and what distros are you running?

I love that Lian-Li, AlumaxX. I followed that mod from day 1 religously. When are you going to start on your next project? :D

Already started planning the new project. I made some sketches and already ordered some stuff for it. It will be a custom build pc, so not a mod. I will use some materials I have never used before so I will have to experiment with the materials a bit first. The name will be "Evolutionary"
I hope to find some sponsors for the hardware.

Here's mine...

Just moved into the new house, so I'm still getting everything setup.I don't have shelves up, or anything yet...

Click on the images to enlarge them

Im likin the banner, and i hope to get a bunch more.

There's this huge (about 25ft by 100ft) AMD Opteron banner that's on the side of a building on Wall Street in NYC, I would have gotten a pic but I didn't have my camera with me, and now I'm in college 3 and 1/2 hours away from New York :(, I would have loved to "find" that though.

 u need new monitors

I think those monitors are awesome! I think they are Dell P991s or Dell P771s. Which are based on the Sony Trinitron Monitors. I do not care if they are bulky CRT Monitors. Monitors based on the Sony Trinitron have always had great image quality. I used to have a Dell P991 until it got dropped during a move. I loved it till its death. So he should keep those monitors as long as he can!!

Here's mine again...I added another monitor that was not being put to any use..

they're Dell P991's, I bought them refurb for 90 bucks each 3 years ago and they're still goin' strong... I can't complain about getting 2 19" monitors for half the cost of an LCD (back in the day that is)

why should I get a new keyboard? this keytronic's gunna last me a life time, best keyboards ever. shelves do need to be painted though, they just went up the night before I took that shot. Apartment was freshly painted when I moved in, just bare walls and the flash make it look horrid.

Ok, you didn't pay for it. MAD PROPS MAAAN! (The virgins are on their way in the mail. No guarantees though. Mail men are notoriously bad around here.)
