Anyone with direct experience?
Noticeable overall, and at gaming at 16x12?

What would you do?
Ride a horse OR Drive a car
I would say yes it's worth while.
where do you get such a random number as 5 to 10? the old AMD architecture sucks even compared to the 7200. a 7200 at 3.6 will make a difference in gaming even at 1600x1200. of course it all depends on the game but in some games the difference could be huge especially with a good video card.a 2 cylinder car or race horse...
it depends on what you do on your pc...if its gaming.. maybe like 5 to 10 fps more..
if you're getting 60 fps, you'll get 70 now .. eyecandy wont change ...
yep. I have 2.6 5000 X2 and upgrading from an 8600gt to a 4670 saw little to no improvement at 1280. all the reviews out there show the 4670 sometimes doubling the performance of the 9500gt(basically a 8600gt) at 1280 but they all use much better cpus.To those saying its not a worthwhile upgrade for gaming, it depends a lot on the graphics card. I don't think the OP will notice a lot of difference with his 3850 as he's probably more GPU limited at this point, but if he upgraded to an 4850 or better it would make a BIG difference.

even at 1680 with a 3850 he would still pick up some performance in newer games by going with the much better and faster clocked Intel cpu. going with a 4850 or 4870 would make the Intel cpu even more worthwhile because the old X2 would basically just shit itself in some newer games with a high end video card.
sorry but I doubt he actually got that much of an improvement. the old Pentuims sucked for gaming and I know that his cpu is killing most potential that 4870 has and thats a fact. also even running a 9600gt in my system showed very little improvement in some games. I had to crank settings up to almost unplayable levels for an improvement at 1280 in all but a couple games. in UT3 for example the 9600gt, 4670, and 8600gt had the same performance at 1024 and the 9600gt or 4670 were only about 3-5 fps faster at 1280 on all max settings. I spent two days running benchmarks so I am just pulling numbers out of my ass.I think you're having issues with your 4670. There should be plently of room for improvement there. I know this is a little off but, my brother upgraded from a 6800GT to a 4670, on a PD 2.8GHz. According do how your logic, this CPU is so old there shouldn't be any kind of improvement, he saw anywhere from a 2-3 times improvement. If he moved to a processor similar to yours I'm sure he could get even more out of it.
Listed in my sig is my setup. A friend of mine and his brother both have nearly the same system as me, except they both have a E8400 and a p35 gigabyte board. I played TF2 on both their systems noticing a HUGE difference compared to my system. We all have 22inch LCD's so we were all playing at 1680x1050. The settings were the same, we 3 three have nearly identical systems, cept for the proc and mobo. On my system with a 3800+ I get around 10-30 FPS under heavy firefights on servers with more than 20 people. On both their systems, they get 60+. This CLEARLY indicated a cpu bottleneck on my part. I could not believe how much smoother their systems were compared to mine, even though we were all playing with the same 8800GT's and on the same settings. I don't know about the OP, but I myself will be joining my friends in getting a E8400 quite soon.
