Just go for the cheapest SATA DVD burner you can find. They're basically all the same at this point

Ok I've finished building the PC and turned on on the first try :)
BUt I have some questions, since Im using a SSD, I read using AHCI is better than IDE.

How to change to AHCI mode?
On my mobo I went to integrated peripherals>
There are 2 options that can be changed to AHCI

1)SATA Configuration-SATA mode

and

2) onboard e-sata configuration-onboard e-sata controller mode

Which one do I switch to AHCI?


Also according to my mobo my CPU is idling at 44C. Im using a hyper 212+. Doesn't this seem a bit too high? I think maybe I used too little thermal paste (arctic silver 5) or didn't screw it tight enough?
I used the 3 line method

Also when I was tightening the screws for the 212+ I accidentally bumped it and it kinda swiveled a bit. It was not stuck in place.. is that bad..?

I went with the WD black because it's cheaper than the samsung f3.
I heard good things about the zalman cooler, and it looks relatively easy to install. I'm a first time builder so keep this in my mind. I also like the led.. I don't mind paying a bit more for it, unless there's a better alternative. I'll only be doing mild OCing.

3 quick points though I've not read the thread. edit: lol, I'm too late you already built it
1) You may want to bump up the Watts on your PSU to 850 in case you plan on slapping in another video card down the line.
2)I would consider getingt a cheaper 40gb SSD for the boot drive and spend the difference on faster RAM. Win 7 doesn't need more than 40gb, unless you plan on adding things like Adobe suite or PC games to the SSD, 64gb is more than needed.
3)Western Digital Caviar Black is a really great hard drive, however it does not work in RAID, so if you plan on adding more hard drives in a RAID format later you would be better off getting something else.

Switch both to AHCI.

As for the temps, there's three variables that haven't been accounted for: The airflow layout and cooling in you case, your ambient temperatures (the higher it is, the higher the temps inside your PC, and that AS5 takes about 150 to 200 hours of the PC being on to fully "cure" or achieve the optimal cooling.

Then again, if you're using the Fractal Design R3 case, those temps may be normal considering that the Fractal Desgin's main goal is noise level whereas cooling is of secondary importance.
 
ok so right now i have:

SATA Configuration:
SATA Mode: AHCI Mode
SATA 1 Hot plug enabled (SSD is connected to SATA 1)
and sata 2-6 are disabled

and

Onboard E-SATA Config
ONboard E-SATA controller mode [AHCI]


that sound right?
 
Enable SATA ports 2-6 and then it'll sound right
 
I bought the scythe kaze jyuni high air flow and it is really loud.
Is there any way to control it so that it only intakes more air when needed?


The kaze fan should be FANIN0

My front panel audio jack does not work. But my front usbs do work
I messed around in the realtek hd audio manager but could not get it working

Did you hook up the front audio cable in your case to the motherboard?
