I mean, I appreciate the SR3 crossfire fix and all. But what the hell? Skyrim is being played by hundreds of thousands of PC players now, not later. It's been three days since they said they were trying to get the Skyrim profiles out ASAP...

Man AMD is really dropping the ball hardcore. Skyrim is too good of a game to play half assed. And I totally agree with you, I was definitely going to upgrade from my dual 5770s to the new generation 7000 series or maybe even a single 6970 if the prices fell, but now I'm considering selling my 5770s and going to a single Nvidia 570/580 or the next generation Nvidia cards.

Any idea if the new CAPs play nice with the dll? That's what I use right now, and while it's okay, it's not ideal. My GPU usage also randomly tanks and I have to restart the game if I want to see more than 20 FPS.
I can't tell you how much I'm waiting for the next series of Geforce cards. Selling off my unlocked 6950's and moving to the fastest single card I can get. Even if there is a small decrease in speed overall, I will not sit through this constant waiting game for drivers/profiles to play every new game that comes out. Did it in the 5000-series, and did it this time again. I'm done, and it's sad, because when they work, they're great.

To be honest, though, I feel bad for the driver teams on both sides every holiday season. The sheer quantity of games is staggering, which means they have to work extra hard to get all of these games to work properly at launch -- particularly when there are multiple big releases every week. It's little wonder that they can't get everything to work at launch.
It seems like the majority of the issues are on the crossfire side, and even then it's just a matter of time. Hopefully the next gen cards will be powerful enough for 2560x1600 on one card.

This is actually very disapointing.... If AMD doesn't price their 7000 series competitively next year against Nvidias line up, then I may just go green again.
yeah, but I'm still waiting for a decent driver for it. The beta driver broke Eyefinity/crossfire totally for me, and the most recent one did the same >_<

To quote a line from one of my favorite movies..."What the fucking fuck?!!?". I've been dealing with amd and their shit drivers for so many years, I'm just done. I've been waiting for years for them to get their shit together, since the X800 days, and they've still got their head up their asses. It's sad because they have a great product, and they've ruined it with their half-ass support. I hope to god I can get a little of my money back selling my current cards when the next gen nv cards come out, cause I'm going green.

Guys, the Nvidia camp is having the same issues. SLI support? barely. I haven't seen anyone getting more than 40% usage. You better research before you switch. Their drivers are more buggy and crash-prone than AMD's.
ROFL @ AMD. Saints Row 3 and Gothic 4 Arcania. Whatever the hell those are. Good thing AMD gets their priorities straight and sandbags on games like BF3 and Skyrim!
I really hope nVidia's next cards are amazing this next round as I don't want to be forced into going with AMD.

I'm going with Nvidia, probably when Kepler comes out. I'm sick of this shit. There's absolutely no good reason why we shouldn't have a CAP update for one of the biggest games in the last 10 years already. Especially since Nvidia users got their SLI update the day BEFORE the game released. This is inexcusable.
This just frosts the fucking cake.
Say what you want, but nvidia at least HAS two card SLi support out on day one.
My son uses SLi GTX 580s and his game performance has been just fine.
I've got an ass load of money in AMD hardware and it doesn't fucking work. 2/3 of my hardware just sits there due to lack of driver support.
Hire some people. Do what you need to do to support the stuff you sell, or quit doing it.
The ONLY thing I'll miss about not using AMD hardware is a very good dual GPU card.......unfortunately without CF drivers is isn't worth a shit.

I installed 11.11 with Cap2 and am using RadeonPro with Skyrim set to the Oblivion CrossfireX profile (as recommended by CaveManJim @ Rage3D). Scaling seems great - seeing a constant 99% GPU usage when I'm exploring (not in a cpu-limited city). I would honestly consider this game fully functional in crossfire at this point (at least in my 2 card setup). I pulled the dll out of my directory for now.
I'm running 6048x1080, Ultra, no MSAA, FXAA Enabled.
I do find it slightly smoother if I cap my FPS with dxtory or some other method.

Haha, funny. I'm just hoping that once AMD's 7xxx cards come out, we don't have to wait forever before Kepler comes out. I'd love nothing more than for Nvidia to come out with Kepler within like a month of the 7xxx cards. That would be best case scenario.
It's not even just the crossfire support problems, their drivers have been a mess in general for years. The crossfire debacle is just the icing on the cake, and what's more insulting is that it doesn't have to be this way. They're just too cheap and/or stupid to staff a proper driver team. I never had the problems with nvidia drivers that I've had with amd/ati. The only reason I have gone back to amd the last couple of rounds, is the price. Nvidia's $600 price tag on their top tier cards is fucking ridiculous, but at this point I'd bend over and take if it meant getting something that worked.
Personally I am playing SR3 right now and could give 2 shits less about Skyrim. BF3 is playing perfect for me with Crossfire so I am loving Cap2.

Ya, if people buy the new series AMD video cards right off the bat without seeing what nVidia has to offer they are crazy. I've never had anywhere near as much problems with nVidia drivers as I have with AMD. AMD only designs drivers for plain jane setups of 1 GPU and 1 monitor and don't test any high end configurations.

Yeah, which is why I'm hoping Kepler comes out soon after AMD's cards. If Kepler comes out, say, 6 months later, then temptation might set in, at least for me, anyway.

I've never had more than 2 cards in SLI or CF.
Last time I had CF with 5850's i had alot of issues and went 470 gtx sli and it was much smoother experience driver wise. Interestingly enuff most of my nvidia driver issues happened with 1 card lol.
So far my 6970 crossfire has been AWESOME, i don't really play anything besides BF3 though lately.
DXHR ran awesome though without issue and so did source based games which I tried briefly.
I would say in my experience over the last 7 years or so I would have said stay away from CF if you want more than one gpu, but this latest experience with 6970 CF (2 cards) remedied that for me.
NO issues in what I do/play. Then again I wont ever play rage or skyrim so that has something to do with it also. I have had a alot of nvidia cards and If the gtx 580's were the same price as these unlocked 6950's I probably would have went that way, but being only 1.5gb and more money. NO THANKS.

Ditto. I got both of my "6970's" for a total of $490, that is about the same price as the cheapest 580 on sale and in most of the games I play, the performance smashes the 580.

I think it's funny how folks here seem to think jumping the fence to NV will solve all their ills. As if team NV has never had the exact same type of driver issues. Trust me.. they have. No fanboi post here.. I've hated just about every GPU manufacturer equally at one time or another. People seem to have really short memories when their sh*t does not work right this second. Wanna hop over to team green.. have at it. As mentioned above I paid less for my 2 AMD cards than I would have for a single NV card and they destroy NV at the same price point. There are workarounds posted for the games I'm seeing complaints about. Does it suck to have to use them instead of having working drivers from the OEM? Oh hell yes... you bet. But seriously.. how long have you been playing PC games guys? Two weeks? I've had to "tweak/use custom" driver and game files for both AMD, NV, 3dfx and some others that went away over the years.
Bottom line and my advise.. take a chill pill. Don't let the driver issues ruin the game experience. If lack of drivers or a fix is ruining your gameplay.. play a different game for a bit. It's not worth the hair loss and high blood pressure.. trust me.

You're talking about Skyrim? Then you're wrong. Usage is great, Skyrim is just very very CPU bound in many areas. Stop telling lies.

having used AMD gpus almost exclusivley and being on these forums for a while and with my own experiences...I'd say at least anecdotally that NV's drivers are better than AMD's. NV just has better access to the developers and seem to have support for almost every game quicker than AMD and less SLI issues than CFX does in games but that's just me mostly from what I've seen on the forums.
