And throw in a $30 chair from staples on Rebate sale for good measure :D

I'm not even sure if I can spec out a 30K computer, but if you want to get a computer for me as well I can help! :p

why not just buy a 2grand comp and put the rest in the bank? or let me invest it in the stock market for u and make millions? :)

I bet this would be somewhere around $30,000

8-way AMD Opteron with 16 AMD Opteron cores and can use 128 GB of RAM

This with about 20TBs of Harddrive space (about 45 500GBs drives) plus a raptor x boot drive.
Of course 2 7900GTX in SLI powering a Westy 37" w3 for gaming and Dell 30 inchers on the other 3 ports

http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/showdoc.aspx?i=2721&p=6
Why only 1 raptor? $30K and you boot off of a $300 drive?

I'd run 15K SAS in 4xRaid0 and back it by either running 0+1 (which would be a waste in a 4 drive configuration) or do actual backups to a dedicated Raid5 or 3 array, maybe use either 10K SAS or an assortment of raptors (to save some money). Then another Raid5 array for data.

Then quad 7900GTX's, 4-way DC Opteron (socket F of course), 64GB memory.

wow, I like to dream too.

The PC Of My Dreams:

2x 7900GTX in SLi

Raptor 150GB

500GB SATAII 16mb

Creative Audio Shit

2x Dual Layer Burners

DFi SLI-DR

OC'ed Opteron 165

4GB TeamGroup Cronus

Dell 3007

2x B&W 601's

A Sexay Yamaha Reciever

I would prob get that dell quad gpu, dual core computer for 10k, with a whole bunch of 30inch lcds, and a kicking speaker system, with a cool desk and chair... Maybe get enough of those 30inch lcds to make a simulator or something..

30,000? Start up your own LAN center and build 10 computers with: AMD 64 3200+ venices, 7600GTs, a good PCI-E mobo, 40GB hard drives. Then you could probably make more than 30,000 in 1 year and build more PCs after that.

You mean $150,000 right????

$30k is unrealistic for a single gaming/word/everyday computer. For a server tho its definately an option and a very good budget.

As for the LAN it could work. If you were situated in a populous area where you could get business on work days and not just weekends. So have a computer gaming section and then for those regular folks you could have weak computers for just checking e-mail or something.

go to voodoopc.com and max out every option for any system, that'll get ya close to 30K

$4K for the computer leaves $26K for the daily neck massage from the bikini blonde. Priorities, ya know?

Am I the only one here who favors a new shiny :insert 1337 PC componnt: over fun time with a bikini blonde?

A pc with 4 top of the line quadros hooked up to 16 projectors. Get a room with one giant ass movie theater screen. Put in 6 martin logans for some nice surround sound. Then get a lot of milk bottles to pee in cause you'll probably end up like howard hughes.

Unless this bikini blonde is making me a nice steak dinner (complete with sides), serves it to me nekkid, and then finishes with a neck massage.. I'll tell her to GTFO and get me some SLI.

"HEY LETS SEE HOW MUCH I CAN SPEND ON A COMPUTER IN MY DREAMS....HEH HEH IM A IDIOT!"

Out of all seriousness, my old school has a server room that has 200 Grand worth of server parts.

psht, if your gonna drop 30k on a comp i wanna see some NITROGEN COOLING. damn STRAIGHT. quad sli with each card oced to 1ghz. dont care for artifacts, just set a new world record damnit.

yea thats what im thinking, go to like Science world, smash the little laser thing to peices, then hook up your machine to their projecter, grab yourself a copy of HL2 and play some CSS.

that or quad sli but thats only available thru the oems...

oh yea and be sure to throw in a couple of Physics cards from BFG.

Oohh, this could be fun.

Since it's always great to google at all the most wicked L337 computer setups you could ever imagine, how about we see who can think up the best system for a 30 grand budget. That includes monitors, tower, case, chair, sound system, keyboard/mouse, headphones, any misc stuff like external hard drives, the desk it all sits on, special lighting, etc etc etc etc.

(Could even be a wicked awesome folding farm if you like)

And lets keep away from suggestions like, "Uhhhh, i'd uhmmmm, put 16 7900's in SUPER DUPER SLI MODE!!! HICK HICK HICK" mkay? Sweet.

Knock yourselves out.
(links to product and price make your post good)

ValeX

If you are serious, I can show you a system that is very close. That is, if you want to buy one.

I'm not calling you a gay or anything, but you know.... gotta wonder.

No, you're just a l33t g33k. Props.

Seriously, I enjoyed reading some of the responses from guys who actually know how to assemble a machine; not the phoneys who go to Alienware and just max everything. Raid SCSI for gaming is overkill, but what the hell.

bah, alienware. better then dell, but monarch's the way to go. lol. naw but i really dont like alienware, they have nice cases, thats pretty much all i can say about them.

no every comp iv built has been something unique, sis here, intel there, amd on that etc.

Alienware != dell. :)

I'd spend $29,999 on a kick ass Laser. Then I'd go use it and have fun with it and make it make me money.

dunno how though :(

30K eh ?

hmmmm...id throw about 10K into the PC...the rest would be doing up my room to be uber comfy...overly expensive yet overly comfy chair, sound set up...sound proofing....fridge...etc

3 30"'s a must tho....that way when you watch pr0n...it'll be like youre actually in the movie !! :D

Better to get three different computers.

One with an AMD 64 FX-60 and X1900XT Crossfire on an ASUS A8R-MVP 32

One with an Intel Presler 955 3.4GHz Extreme Edition and 7900GTX SLi on an ASUS P5N32-SLI

And an Apple Macbook Pro with 2.0Ghz dual core. lol

IBM 386sx in an actual gold case. For the most part it would be pointless except it would be the only computer in the world that is not worth less the day after you build it.

whoa. that's the best idea yet! a computer that could potentially appreciate in value :D

One thing that ive wanted to do, was start my own Isp. With 30k... I could see myself burning through that fairly quickly. Either that, or set up a farm. Buy about 1,000 $300.00 dell systems and fold till the electric bill comes next month.

I could also visit Sun microsystem's website, and would have a hard time being able to buy something with only 30k.

Unless I was really *really* drunk, I cant see myself spending $30,000 on computers (even if I won the lottery). Theres a reason why I actually can afford to piss money away on some of the junk that I do, because im a cheapskate tightwad. All of the computers ive bought over the years were ones that just barley cut the mustard. Ive been using a 3Com hub that I bought ages ago, used for $2.99, and I just-now bought a 10/100 switch for $27.00, It took me a hell of a long time to build up the courage to buy it. My cars cost less than my computers... If I had 30k to spend on a computer, id probably end up price-shopping all over the net for about a month straight trying to save 50 cents on a $900 build... $900 would be pushing it for my comfort level :D.

Hmm, also... I wouldnt mind having one of those multi-terrabyte tape storage servers I always see for several grand on fleabay.
