Why only 1 raptor? $30K and you boot off of a $300 drive?

I'd run 15K SAS in 4xRaid0 and back it by either running 0+1 (which would be a waste in a 4 drive configuration) or do actual backups to a dedicated Raid5 or 3 array, maybe use either 10K SAS or an assortment of raptors (to save some money). Then another Raid5 array for data.

Then quad 7900GTX's, 4-way DC Opteron (socket F of course), 64GB memory.

wow, I like to dream too.

I would prob get that dell quad gpu, dual core computer for 10k, with a whole bunch of 30inch lcds, and a kicking speaker system, with a cool desk and chair... Maybe get enough of those 30inch lcds to make a simulator or something..
 
30,000? Start up your own LAN center and build 10 computers with: AMD 64 3200+ venices, 7600GTs, a good PCI-E mobo, 40GB hard drives. Then you could probably make more than 30,000 in 1 year and build more PCs after that.

$30k is unrealistic for a single gaming/word/everyday computer. For a server tho its definately an option and a very good budget.

As for the LAN it could work. If you were situated in a populous area where you could get business on work days and not just weekends. So have a computer gaming section and then for those regular folks you could have weak computers for just checking e-mail or something.
 
go to voodoopc.com and max out every option for any system, that'll get ya close to 30K

A pc with 4 top of the line quadros hooked up to 16 projectors. Get a room with one giant ass movie theater screen. Put in 6 martin logans for some nice surround sound. Then get a lot of milk bottles to pee in cause you'll probably end up like howard hughes.

yea thats what im thinking, go to like Science world, smash the little laser thing to peices, then hook up your machine to their projecter, grab yourself a copy of HL2 and play some CSS. :cool:

that or quad sli but thats only available thru the oems...

Seriously, I enjoyed reading some of the responses from guys who actually know how to assemble a machine; not the phoneys who go to Alienware and just max everything. Raid SCSI for gaming is overkill, but what the hell.

no every comp iv built has been something unique, sis here, intel there, amd on that etc.

One with an Intel Presler 955 3.4GHz Extreme Edition and 7900GTX SLi on an ASUS P5N32-SLI

And an Apple Macbook Pro with 2.0Ghz dual core. lol

One thing that ive wanted to do, was start my own Isp. With 30k... I could see myself burning through that fairly quickly. Either that, or set up a farm. Buy about 1,000 $300.00 dell systems and fold till the electric bill comes next month.

I could also visit Sun microsystem's website, and would have a hard time being able to buy something with only 30k.

Unless I was really *really* drunk, I cant see myself spending $30,000 on computers (even if I won the lottery). Theres a reason why I actually can afford to piss money away on some of the junk that I do, because im a cheapskate tightwad. All of the computers ive bought over the years were ones that just barley cut the mustard. Ive been using a 3Com hub that I bought ages ago, used for $2.99, and I just-now bought a 10/100 switch for $27.00, It took me a hell of a long time to build up the courage to buy it. My cars cost less than my computers... If I had 30k to spend on a computer, id probably end up price-shopping all over the net for about a month straight trying to save 50 cents on a $900 build... $900 would be pushing it for my comfort level :D.

Hmm, also... I wouldnt mind having one of those multi-terrabyte tape storage servers I always see for several grand on fleabay.
