i want to buy a video card for physix. it has to buy less than $100. i want to play last game with it.

Do you want a dedicated PhysX card to run in addition to your main card, or a main card that also supports PhysX? Not really clear.

If the CPU is stout, just check the box in the control panel to let the CPU handle Physx and forget the extra expense.:D

I haven't seena title yet save for Batman that had any effects worthy of a separate Physx card.

If only there were games that really used physx in a meaningful way and in multiplayer setting.. I would have kept my 260 for physx.

Anyhow.. for $100 bucks I say try picking yourself up a used 260 because it will be better than 450.

+1 ;)

If you can score a GTS 450 for under a Benjamin, then do that. From the G80 architecture to the GT200 there were already some serious gains in PPU performance. The Fermi is even more parallel, so give that a shot. It also has 192 SPs as compared to 128 on the GTS 250.

So few games even use PhysX, at least according to Wikipedia, I don't know why it's hyped as much as it is.

this.

Im disappointed in physics simulation at the moment. On one side we have Nvidia widely marketing their cards with Physx, with few games actually supporting hardware physx. On the other AMD with their halfassed support of open source physics.

The only decent platform for future physx games is the UE3 engine, but newer games dont even utilize that beyond cpu physx (like The Ball, or the comming RO:HOS)

With the community looking into physx and discovering it would run alot faster on modern 4 core cpus, if Nvidia would actually bother to make it available for use with additional SSE support, instead of only running on old x87 instructions, it just seems like a marketing ploy to me. It will probably die out fairly soon on the PC if Nvidia continue keeping it on their own strict leash.

I'd buy a used GT240 or GT250, play through Cryostasis, Batman and Metro 2033 with it, and sell it again, if I were you

PhysX is really overrated (As in not many games support it) and isn't worth the money. Not to mention a GTX 260 would be overkill for a PhysX card.

I have a 9800GT for a PhysX card and for the games that support it do well with PhysX.

If you really want a PhysX card I would get a cheap GTS 250 or a 9800gt. GTX 260 is a waste for PhysX.

GTS 450 on eBay go for over $100... but they have 192 CUDA cores.
9800GT on eBay average for around $45, and they have 112 CUDA cores.

I bought a 9800GT today for the purpose of being a dedicated PhysX card.

A 8800gt9800GT eske of cards would be pretty solid for physics. Do you don't need to spend all that much money of a 260, 450 or lol460 768mb.
I know you have a 100 to spend, but seems like a waste. If you really have to spend that much then the 450 is probably the best buy,

I think a lot of people see "PhysX" and think "OMG physics processing! All my games will run/look better!" without realizing PhysX only applies to a very small set of games.

Not worth it IMO until it becomes more mainstream. If you have cash to blow then a gts 250 will be more than enough

If you want PhysX processing that will last you a good number of years, look into the 460gtx 768MB version. You can get one with a pretty high factory OC, and it has more shaders than a 285gtx card.

The shaders are what matter the most in PhysX processing. You can down clock the memory and core to gain more shader performance without sacrificing anything for PhysX processing since it doesn't move much data per se compared to graphics processing.

If I had more PCIe x16 slot's I'd consider it for myself, but my raid card will be consuming that area.

eh, all that particle rendering and processing can make your frame rate drop...

So can turning up the resolution and detail level. I guess we should all play at 640x480 with the lowest possible settings?

The whole point of buying a dedicated PhysX card is to be able to provide enough processing power for those calculations that you're able to maintain a satisfactory level of performance to go along with the new eye candy.

what freaking eye candy? physx gets used mostly for useless shit by the games that have it. yeah a few demos look really good, otherwise not.

You just have to keep an eye out for good deals. I have a brand new GTX 275 coming that I got for $100. It was an RMA that the owner did not want anymore. It also has EVGA's Lifetime warranty.

I'm considering buying a cheap physX card...

Does it seem normal for a 570 to get less than 10 fps on UT3 PhysX mod Tornado map?

No it does not. You probably have hardware physx turned off....you have to enable it in the settings

The cpu could have been doing those physics though....thus the horrible frame rates. Your GPU is strong enough to render that game and handle its PhysX and laugh at it all on a 30" screen with every setting maxed out.

I wonder what's going on then... it seems strange the TDM map Heatware_PhysX does fine with 30-60fps, but both the CTF maps Lighthouse and Tornado get 20-30fps for 30 seconds then drop to 10fps
