$1,900 Death Stranding Jacket Released, Sells Out Instantly

Just letting everyone know that the non-promo version of this jacket (lacking some of the little details, color changes etc) is essentially $1500-1800+ anyway, so it isn't like people are paying a premium exclusively for the Death Stranding tie-in. In fact, I'm rather pleasantly surprised that the tie-in version is only a little more expensive compared to vastly so. It appears this company makes incredibly expensive "techwear" modular attire - the pants are $1K+ , all of the jackets are well over that etc . This is "specialist" high fashion clothing that you'll either think is hideous or cool, and is likely overpriced.

I could spend the rest of the post hypothetizing about what sort of people buy items from this company, but that wouldn't be fair exactly unless I looked into the real qualities and minutia (where is it made? What is it made of? Who is making it, what does it offer beyond other products) and I'm not too familiar with ACRONYM GMBH aside from knowing it must be a German outfit given the organizational name. While it COULD be absolute crap (ie sweatshop made "high fashion" that is no better than things less than half its price etc), its also possible it could fill a unique niche that makes it desirable. I know for a fact I buy handmade, sweatshop-free, first-world-artisan-made clothing made out of healthful and eco-friendly materials when possible, knowing that it costs way more than what initially appears comparable off the rack at some big box store, but there are still advantages that are important to me.

Likewise, to bring it more on a tech bend lots of people may think we're all insane for building expensive liquid cooling custom loops for our PCs when it would "run just fine" with the included heatsink or a cheap replacement, but we have our reasons. Then again, there is a point of diminishing returns - a liquid cooling system is one thing, getting your entire PC and cooling system dipped in gold and studded with precious stones for example, would just be expensive gaudiness.

ROFL $1,900 for some POS made in China for $15. Fools.
No difference from all the "premium" name brand stuff that sells for insane amounts. Like the guy at work that won't stuff up about his $800 hipster glasses frame. Looks no different then the cheap but 2 full sets of glasses for $99 specials they always have.

If most of the sales go to the Japanese, then this isn't surprising, the Japanese have a culture of worship, you see it in their idols, rock stars, sports teams......those people set the bar for "buying the merch", make us Westerners look like amateurs. Also, in this case, they may legitimately be preparing for their next actual job. Deliveries, in case you haven't noticed, are up lately.
It's not really a "culture of worship" thing, their media culture is vastly different. In the US companies push and view box-office sales and viewership to garner popularity and decide success of media; in Japan, companies do the same with merchandise sales (DVD/BluRay, books, clothing, items) to determine popularity. That's why some media from Japan can be widely popular in the West (enough to be considered a success by Western standards), but due to poor merchandise sales be viewed as a failure to the Japanese companies.

I think Sylvester says it best:

Because we just gave them all 1200 dollars. You think people are responsible? That's cute.

The entire point of the stimulus checks isn't for people to put the money into the bank and sit on it. Its the same as last time the US government gave out money like this. It is meant to be extra money in your pocket that you go out and spend to help the economy. The point was for everyone to go buy something stupid with the money if you could. Sure some people need the money for bills. But not everyone is out of a job right now. Some are essential workers and still reporting to work in person. Some are working from home and still getting their full paycheck every week. So there are people that have the same amount of money the day before the check hit that they would have probably had in the bank a month before it hit. So they have extra money to go spent on silly stuff to help boost the economy. Which is good. People need to be spending money if they can.

But not everyone needs more money for food. Me and my team have been working extra hours as working for an ISP oddly people seem to need their internet working and seem to be using more data. Not sure why that is, do you have any ideas? I have multiple family members that work in other various essential jobs and all have been working the same full time hours that they were before. I know many companies around me that did not shut down but instead have all their employees working from home. Companies that I deal with for work have their employees still working full time but working from home, expect for the factories that are still making equipment and need people there on site to give the robots their parts. I know people that are on social security or disability and still getting their money every month. Not 100% of the population is laid off and without a source of money right now. Only 18% of the work force lost jobs or hours due to the corona virus based on what I can see. So that is still 82% that have money coming into the home right now. That 82% then didn't need that money for food.

Lets assume that number is off some, lets assume 25%. That is still 75% that are fine. What you have though is the loss of people spending money. People aren't traveling, so airlines are losing money, but at the same time so is the areas that these people go to is losing money. Others aren't sure how long they might still have a job so they might be holding onto money. Then you have those that have money but can't spend it as they can't go anywhere.

Did you lose your job? Are you hurting for food right now?
