I think it's a great overall P&S. The zoom range is really helpful, but sometimes it does not seem like it's wide enough. Sometimes it can be a little slow between pictures on continuous drive, but most consumer digicams are like that.

I've had the Magicstor. It died the first week I had it. I RMA'd it and waited 3 weeks for it to come to me from Hong Kong. That one had the same problems with corrupting data and overheating as the first one. They aren't worth it.
You could transfer it from tape to the computer with a video capture card. Just plug the Video out or S-Video to the card along with the audio. Then convert it to MPEG-2 and burn it to dvd with your favorite burning program.
