Next project, getting a 1920x1080 projector (either DLP or LCD, whichever hits 2 grand UK sterling first), and running an SLId 6800 ultra setup into it
As for screens, most premium screens offer higher gain values than youll usually get from a painted wall, so they reflect more...

pros and cons please (and answers of Creative in the Cons section wont be acceptable!)
I was leaning towards an intel 915 or 925 with HDA until i heard about the SLI Nforce4 with SoundStorm, but now im hearing that that particular board wont be seen until early next year :(
Requirements...
EAX is a processing technique that games can call upon to carry out certain reverb effects.
Dolby Digital Encoding is a process that takes multichanel audio and encodes it into a format that can be passed along a digital connection to a Dolby Digital Decoder which then sends the signals to a...
Nope, he's not!
Nope again! Everything made use of the Dolby Digital Encoding, you just told a game to do its surround sound processing thing and then the card would encode it so that you could hook it up to a Dolby Digital receiver with 1 simple TOSLINK or coax digital cable.
The...
why would he want an audigy 2 when he's got a soundstorm thatll not only output great 5.1 sound via analog but also carry out Dolby Digital Encoding if he wants it?
pez
you can say eye-dee, but youll be wrong.
its id.
Freud believed that the personality or 'psychic apparatus' consists of three parts (which must not be thought of as parts of the brain or in any physical way), the id, the ego and the superego.
The id.
Although part of the personality...
not down with the so called 1337, so ive no idea how to attach images to these posts.
is there no way to do it without uploading the images somewhere else and linking them in?

"Now, what I want to see is someone porting the original Doom levels to Doom 3's engine. That would be quite entertaining indeed."
I was thinking the same thing.

im running on a Panasonic PTAE500 here (also a native 1280x720 res LCD projector, and the Z2s direct competitor), and we set it up last night, with 5.1 sound from an NForce 2 board with Sound Storm.
100inch screen
just wow.
ill post some pics later.
It is disappointing that id...
it does appear as though its a maturation thing, once the codecs and the software side of things get sorted then HDA will be a winner, the hardware spec is pretty sweet.
now, if only Intel had a processor that beat the AMD64fx53 for games, id be willing to put money on a 925x mobo today!
pez
" i want a cave to sound like a cave...i want a warehouse to sound like a warehouse. none of that is posible in REAL TIME without eax. "
id didnt use EAX and listen to Doom3, its stunning.
"you're talking about dolby digital...well, name me 5 games that have real dolby digital support...
fingers crossed that the nforce4 has some sort of multichannel digital encoding on it.
its a pain having to run 3 cables from my pc to 6 analog inputs on my amp when 1 digital could do.
thats the only benefit though (getting rid of some wires), although to some its not even a benefit, as...
so when are they going to get around to releasing the dual gfx card capable NForce4 chipsets for AMD processors?
I want my DDE, my amd64fx53, and my sli'd geforces!
pez
roll on NForce4!
as far as i can tell, only the new motherboards that are coming out now have Dolby Digital Encoding, the chipsets are the intel 915 and 925 family that have intels High Definition Audio on board stuff (expect this to become as pervasive as AC97, but its MUCH better, if you...
the only problem with this is that the g_fov command seems to increase the vertical as well as the horizontal, so you see more above and below you too.
we need a variable that will allow for 16:9 ratio monitors and screens to be able to see more left and right, but keep the vertical the same...
i cant find much info on the nhl2003, ssxtricky stuff etc, but it looks like its all real time dts encoded on the ps2.
I also found this that was pretty cool, outlining differences between dolby digital and dts.
http://www.cosc.brocku.ca/Offerings/3P92/seminars/DTS/
pez
so the ps2 is streaming dd info from the disks for cutscenes, and using Dolby Surround matrixed audio for the ingame scenes.
where does the dts encoding fit in with this? http://www.xiph.org/archives/vorbis/200111/0129.html and http://www.dtsonline.com/consumer/gaming/ ?
from what im...
ive asked this in another thread but its just as pertinant here.
If a game could do the dde in the processor (and judging by what i now know about the ps2 its something that can be done on pretty old hardware), could the dd 5.1 audio be routed out of the SPDIF on non DDE sound cards?
pez
cool, so if a pc game could get the processor to do the encoding, could the 5.1 stream be passed through the spdif of the creative card to a receiver? would that be much of a performance hit?
pez
this is where i found that bit http://www.sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=565&pid=2148
arent you risking a loss of quality anyway running several analogue audio leads into a dolby digital/dts receiver?
from what i can gather external dolby digital/dts receivers then take these analogue...
as for bandwidth affecting a cards ability to do DDE, i found this. how accurate it is, i dont know.
"For the most part, VIA and Creative Labs were the only two competitors of the audio market. The question is why hasnt NVIDIA chimed in. Soundstorm was a great onboard solution that gamers...
now that intel has stuck HDA on the 925 chipsets with dolby digital live its not something that in the future will cause many problems, its an ease of use thing more than anything else.
I can appreciate that its an added expense to include dde onto the cards, but you dont think that a card as...
but i, on a Pioneer 400watt dcs303 home cinema dvd/dolby digital/dts receiver with only a TOSLINK in would not get 5.1 digital audio from any creative labs soundcard.
thats the crux of this.
Many people have dolby digital/dts decoders/receivers in their home cinema setups that are great...
so theres no way to use my home theatre setup for surround sound unless i have a soundstorm based sound solution?
eek, does that mean id be forced to buy some pc based speaker system?
man, that sounds like a con to me.
pez
im reading more and more and just getting more and more confused.
would i need a card that did Dolby Digital Encoding if i wanted to hear anything through my Pioneer Dolby Digital receiver if i connected it via the TOSLINK optical digital cable?
seems to me like creative have ignored home...
Hi, im a bit of a novice when it comes to PC audio (although i used to have a Gravis Ultrasound MAX card that was the best on the market in its day!), things have changed alot and stereo is no longer as good as it gets for pc audio.
Doom3 is just around the corner, and ive got a Pioneer...
Hello,
Great article on the hardware and how doom 3 runs on it, and its certainly pointing me in the right direction for a new pc (still on a p3-550 here...elvis left the building a long time ago!).
Im curious about a few things though.

Im going to be...
