Microsoft to Gut Longhorn to Make 2006 Delivery Date

Actually, I prefer using Server 2k3 as my desktop. Performance gain (for me) have been tremendous. Check out this guild to convert your 2k3 server to a desktop: http://www.msfn.org/win2k3/ Works quite well, howver, I would not recommend paying the moeny for 2k3 server just as a desktop...

Microsoft to Gut Longhorn to Make 2006 Delivery Date

Actually, I came up with the Wintendo comment first. I have over 20 years in the industry, so I think I have enough knowledge about it to call it what I want to call it. I know exactly what kind of impact MS has on the world, but that doest stop it from manufacturing the worlds most expensive...

Microsoft to Gut Longhorn to Make 2006 Delivery Date

Yeah, and when NT4 is fianlly put to rest at the end of this year, Linux will gobble as well. A prediction.... I think the days are coming to and end for MS as we know it. And I'm not just saying this because I like Linux. I really like the Wintendo OS as it plays the games that I like most...

    Windows 2003 as a desktop?

I must dissagree with the above statements, however. I was using WinXP and switched to Server 2003 and made all the nessesary changes and, on my desktop (Dual AMD 2800, 1 gig ram, GeForce 5900 ultra), I see and feel quite abit better performance. As an example, I use Flight Sim 2002 and on...

I made the switch to the other side

I got an ATI card cause at the time, it was better. However, I run primaraly Linux based machines and the ATI drivers are terrible. My GeForce 4200 was better then ATI in Linux. So, I bought a GF 5900 Ultra off E-Bay and have been very happy. It runs top notch in Linux and Windows. Way fastert...

Choosing Video Card: At what point is it just overkill?

Well, I run FarCry (Demo) on my Linux box (Using Wine) and I get about 40 to 60 fps at 1024x768. I have a TI 4200 and it runs ok for me. However, Im upgrading to a 5900, so well see how better that gets. It was funny, cause I ran FarCry on Windows with the same hardware and it was terrible...

Choosing Video Card: At what point is it just overkill?

Yeah, thats basically what I do. Im always about a generation behind only because I dont see the point in spending $499 on a card that will, in 4 to 6 months, cost only $299 or less. BUT,like Linux, Hardware is all about choice... If you want to spend $499 now on a state of the art card...

Tell us why your Linux distro is the best

I used Redhat and Mandrake and then switched to Gentoo. One thing I didnt like about Red Hat or Mandrake was the RPM. The concept is great, but there are really not that many packages avalible and there is no way to (Natively) cause RPM to download and install dependent packages. With...
