I am looking to pick up a used 1.3Ghz Ibook for music scoring/sequencing of external synths and other random school work/web browsing. Will most likely be using Finale and Logic, though it is doubtful that I will be using soft synths a lot. My biggest question is if I will get a lot of latency...
I pretty much got everything to work on my system with gentoo. Nforce 2 sound, ati drivers etc, and I am fairly happy with it. But one thing I miss from windows is the Nforce equalizer. Does linux have any equalizer programs that work with ALSA?
All I honestly want to see, is starcraft, with the warcraft III editor. I love how you can just make new units and not have to change existing ones like you have to do in starcraft. It would make custom maps a lot more in depth, especially the rp/rpg maps.
My question is, how would I make a script that lets me edit data that is all ready in the tables. The script below is basically a guest book script that I edited into a script where it lets me add cards (I am going to try to start an online card selling business) to the db.

I recently built a computer for my mother, which after rma'ing a few parts worked well. It ran for about 2 weeks without crashing, and now all of the sudden, the Service Control Manager fails, specifically the mtRate services fails to start. It says the system cannot find the specified file...
I have been considering buying a 5700 OC recently, mainly for the fact that Nvidia's linux support is a lot better than ATI's. I plan on having a dual boot to windows so I can play the Battlefield series games (among other things of course). Although I really want to be able to set up linux...
I usually have my monitor (Viewsonic PS790) set at 1280x1024@85Hz. It has been working at that refresh rate ever since I have started using this monitor. Now that I have another person using this computer, almost half of the time the refresh rate goes to 60hz. Most of the time I can set it...
And update: I have switched out my video and ram now, and tried knoppix. I still get lock ups, all though when I tried my 9500 pro from a different system, it was about 3 and a half hours before I got a lock up. I am out of ideas. I owned myself and ordered a motherboard that I can only get a...
I recently bought a Biostar M7NCD for a family computer(read as budget computer). I've had nothing but problems since I have installed the parts. I have swapped out ram, HDD, and the video card, and I still get hard locks after an hour and a half, or about. Even in knoppix I get hard locks...
Well I removed the chipset and ati drivers and reinstalled them. I let it run all night, and it didn't lock up, but I got another ati2mtag error, and I have the newest catalyst installed from ati's site. Could the video card be bad?
Edit: I reinstalled windows, and thought I fixed the...
Ran the WD Diagnostics, it passed the extended test. In the event manager I have about 9 errors. Service Control Manager seems to be messing up the most. I have an ati2mtag error as well.
I think I might unistall my chipset/lan/usb/agp/video card drivers and get the most current. Is there...
Well I started to run Prime95 just for some extra testing, and I get about an hour and a half into it, and this thing pops up and says "Hiding your inactive notification icons.." and immediately it locks up. That might have nothing to do with it though. I am using a HDD from 1998, a 5400(If...
I ran memtest86 6 times, it passed all tests with no errors. My voltages are:

+12V: 11.58
-12V: -12.44

Its not overheating, the proc is ~36 idle and ~42 load. The motherboard temp is around 25 at all times. I am starting to think it is bad ram. What program do you recommend to test the ram?
I installed windows xp pro last night. Installation went fine, installation of the drivers went fine, though I got a warning from the ac97 realtek sound drivers, saying that this isn't a window logo certified driver.
About every two hours, no matter what I am doing, be it playing a game or...
I recently put together a computer for my mother. I install all the hardware I need, turn it on, and it powers on fine. It displays the bios name version etc, then goes to
Main Processor : AMD Sempron 2400+
Memory testing : 262144k OK
Memory Frequency For DDR333
Detecting IDE drives ...
I plan on getting dual 2.8 Xeons in the somewhat near future, and I need some reccomendations on a good mobo. I would like to have one that atleast has AGP 4x, 8x would be better.
Edit: Was looking at this http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=NCCH-DL&langs=09# but it doesn't list what the agp...
I what to build a dedicated linux computer, but I am having problems selecting a video card. Could anyone provide any information on which card I should get?
