Got my hands on this bad boy today. Unfortunately there is no hardware RAID. Though with storage spaces we saw over 8GB/s read and 6GB/s write speed.
Storage spaces offered better sequential performance
Creating a dynamic disk/traditional software RAID had better random performance.
So a friend of mine who has lots of money and donates all of his spare compute time to distributed computing asked me to build him a Quad Titan X rig. Having never tackled something so high end I was quite a fun build for me. While the machine is water cooled he only wanted factory sealed water...
Just a heads up for anyone else trying to install an OS on a SM951, update your BIOS first. With the default BIOS Windows would install fine, then crash on boot. Installed to a SATA SSD, updated the BIOS and now I'm able to install windows to the SM951.
I had an extra motherboard laying around since I bought my Core i7 and wasn't sure what to do with it. I came across a e6600 and decided it was time to upgrade my wall. I've had some sort of PC on my office wall for the last 7 years or so. I started with a Dual Slot 1 PII board, then a Celeron...

I ordered a Core 2 Duo system tonight, for a change I felt like using a Desktop case. I love the NSK2400 so I needed a good mATX 865 board to go with it. I have been waiting for the P5B-VM to show up at newegg for about a week now. I showed up last night for $131.99 and dropped $2 today :) I'll...

We got a Dell 2005FPW at work a couple weeks ago. It had a CMD window open for about a week and the image is faintly burnt in wtf?
So I was trying to trouble shoot a problem and bought replacement parts for all the items I thought could be having a problem (It ended up being the mobo). I was going to just take part the other parts since I didn't need or use them. I was noticing how rare 2.4c procs are and was wondering if...
Thursday:
I decide to move my HTPC over to an Antec Sonata and add a quiet heat sink/fan (Gigabyte 3d cooler pro) to make it much quieter than the Lanboy it was in. The swap went well and my computer booted fine first try. I watched a show and just I was going to go to bed the screen went...
I have a PC with UV reactive cabling. I have tried two different sets of UV reactive IDE cables and after bout six month they both stopped reacting :P Has any one found some that don't fade over time?
So a coworker was having problems with his Abit IC7 Max III and finally gave up on it. He asked if I wanted to have the POS. I figured it was a user problem and who could pass on a free mobo. When I went to install the board I felt something on the under side and flipped it over to see this:
I'm building a P4 system for a friend. I have built three with the same board and proc with no problems in the past, but I can't get this one to work at 3.0ghz
