Assuming that you have XP, you can rt>click on the desktop and select <Properties>. Click on the Appearance Tab and choose the color you want to add to your desktop.

I'm assuming you have DHCP enabled on your router...? try resetting your routner and run it again. I've experienced the same problem about a week ago. By unplugging for about 10sec fixed the problem.
Also, rebooting your machine wouldn't hurt either...:eek:
