Of course I look this morning and see the local MC just got a shipment of 8700ks, so this conversation about a 7700k may be moot if the extra cost is justifiable.
I’ve been seriously considering a 1900x. I primarily game so I was looking at Coffee Lake to finally get me off Sandy Bridge however since I’m at 4K I’m GPU bound anyway, and the expandability of X399 is appealing.
I was going to wait for the 8700K but it has come to my attention that I can get a 7800X for $350 at MC. Makes me wonder how the two will compare. Do we have any details on Z370 yet? If the two end up comparable going 7800X for X299 may be the way to go.
I've asked a similar question before but this year it is once again relevant. Microcenter is running 7700Ks for $279.99 and my 2500K is looking a bit long in the tooth.
I'm experiencing similar running a 2500K @ 4.5 GHz and a 1080 at 4K. Curious to see what the consensus is, although the thought of some modern mobo features is certainly a compelling argument in and of itself.
How would this work for someone who doesn't need roomscale (i.e. flight sims)?
The SDE on the current mainstream headsets is what has made me hold off so far.
So the Vive is once again on sale for $699. However, now that the Oculus touch is out I have been reading that perhaps the Vive is not the default choice anymore. Could anyone who has used both chime in with a recommendation?
I am currently running a 2500K @ 4.5 GHz on a P67 board. With microcenter selling 6700Ks for $259 the upgrade bug is starting to bite. I've read a lot on this board about how kaby lake and the Z270 platform is coming soon. Given my situation, is it worth making the jump now given the price or...
As a quick followup, I have noticed that the settings for programs I have installed on my system SSD get cleared when one of these power cycles occurs. If that is indicative of the SSD health or just a side effect of the power cycle, I do not know.
Giving this thread a bump. The issue has been reoccurring and I am at a loss for what may be causing it. My mobo is on the latest BIOS, I updated my SSD firmware and it is passing a checkdisk. Short of taking a plunge and replacing the entire motherboard I'm not sure what else to troubleshoot...
Bringing this thread back from the dead as the topic is still relevant. Today I finally got around to replacing my power supply. I upgraded from my Corsair HX850 to an EVGA 1200 P2. After having everything assembled and browsing the internet some, I again encountered the power cycle.
This power...
I posted a couple months ago in the general tech forum about a power cycle issue and the consensus was that the most likely culprit is my almost 6 year old HX850. That said, I'm looking for a replacement PSU that can power an OCed 2500K and 295x2.
Modular is an absolute must, other than that I...
As of late I have been having an issue with my PC shutting down hard and then powering back on a few seconds later. This normally occurred during gaming but sometimes during desktop use. After running memtest overnight and disk check on all drives, I presumed it was either an issue with my PSU...
An update: I have received the monitor and been experimenting with the freesync range modification. I have not been able to achieve any consistent results. I am unsure if this is user error or simply the monitor not having any room on the scalar.
My experience with 30 hz lower range was the...
This is the sort of answer I was looking for. I have read lots of threads on various forums all proclaiming how a fast monitor is better than a 4K, but none with any real usage experiences to back it up.
I'm not doing any sort of twitch FPS or anything of that sort. Probably the fastest online FPS I play is the occasional match of Battlefield. Beyond that my library does include a fair amount of single player FPS games, as well as first and third person RPGs. I certainly do like my eye candy...
As the title says. I'm feeling drawn to this monitor however I still can't rule out a 27" 144 hz 1440P of some sort. Whichever way I go, coming from a 22" TN will be a large upgrade. I will be using the monitor for various school-type productivity tasks as well as some gaming. I'm currently...
It certainly looked like backlight bleed. If it was IPS glow, it was among the strongest I've ever seen.
Anyway, my 3rd monitor (the 2nd replacement) came in today. I hooked it and and immediately unhooked it and put it back in the box. The LCD panel had become separated from the frame along...
I have ordered a second replacement monitor (my 3rd in all) which will be arriving tomorrow. The backlight bleed on my current monitor is still quite distracting in dark scenes and games, which I find unacceptable for a $600 monitor. Additionally, this current monitor also has some intermittent...
To those who know more than I: I have a potential problem.
In various games, my 295x2 does not run at full core clock in crossfire. In some, both GPUs will be throttling down from max, or sometimes one will run at max while the other throttles.
ULPS is disabled in afterburner and in the...
Got the replacement in today.
Ran some test images and found 3 dead pixels, all along the right edge of the panel. The 2 dead pixels on the previous panel were in the middle of the screen, so this is at least less noticeable.
There is still some backlight bleed in the bottom right corner...
Next day followup: I have tried some gaming and found the backlight bleed to be far more disruptive than I initially evaluated. I have requested a replacement and will post again once I receive it.
Just got my monitor. Hooked it up and ran some panel tests to see how it fared. I found 2 dead pixels and some backlight bleed on the bottom right corner.
I'm going to run it some and see if the pixels decide to turn on. The backlight bleed is so far minimal and does not seem like it will be...
