I went and got the Belkin BT adapter and decided to get the Plantronics Explorer 395. It was a lot easier to set up than I thought and it works. Thanks everyone.
Hey cnik79, I haven't tried headsets like the Lifechat, but I did read other reviews which also said they were pretty crappy. Maybe newer more expensive headsets would do better. I have a "binaural" (aka stereo headphones) headset wiith boom mic from Plantronics at work for use with my phone...
Last questions. Most info I read on Bluetooth says that revisions are backwards compatible but does it matter which device, adapter vs. headset, has the higher revision? For example, one of the BT headsets of choice online and the one I'm considering is the Plantronics Voyager 520 ($30.99 @...
Thanks sabregen. I'd probably use it for PC gaming, VOIP, and maybe to use with a cell phone (as soon as I get one that is BlueTooth enabled). I just didn't know if it was possible.
Hello All,
I don't know of a good place to ask this, but I figure this is as good as any since I have HTPC of sorts and others may have run into the same issue. Does anybody know of a good wireless microphone? I'm looking for something similar to what people use with their XBOX (Microsoft...
I also just noticed the new Marantz NR1601. I haven't seen much else that doesn't come in a HTIB. Anyone else know of any slim receivers I haven't seen yet? Preferably ones still available?
I still haven't bought speakers yet, so I thought I'd revisit an old problem. This time around I came across a Cambridge Audio Sonata AR30 receiver which looks slim, but sadly it only does 2.1 for the same price as the ones mentioned before. I also found this unusual Onkyo system, HTX-22HDX...
I did my research since http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1520749 and found a bunch of slim stand-alone receivers that will fit in my TV stand, however only a few of them might support CEC and almost none of them can be had for under $500 unless on sale. Here's the list I came up with...
Forget I asked. I've got a lot of searching and thinking to do. I'll either have to settle for the best of the worst HTIB, or expand my budget to almost twice what i was hoping for. I made the same mistake when I asked before, too. If I remember corectly, half-way decent components each...
Curses! My small TV stand strikes again! The space I have to put a receiver can only accomodate something 5" tall or less. Total available space is 17.5" x 15.5" x 5" (W x L x H). There was one receiver mentioned to me a few times before that probably would fit in that space, Tweak City...
I have a HTPC I built a HTPC a few months ago and I'm loving it so far. Now I want to get better sound than my TV currently gives me. My TV is a 40 Sony V-Series KDL-40V5100. I had posted once before asking for speaker suggestions for 5.1 or 7.1, but I've since decided against it. I'm only...
The problem has gone away, and I think I know the culprit. Some of you may not be surprised by this, but I think it was my anti-virus (Norton Security Suite). It had been prompting me to create a backup on CD/DVD, but I had been ignoring it because I didn't feel like it or think it was...
I've tried plugging in my memory card reader and my thumb drive seperately and neither seem to wake my computer from sleep. I don't see how this tells me anything, though. I have a few silly ideas to test, but I'm at a complete loss to figure this out.
It's not the magicJack. I just double-check again with the MagicJack disconnected and just the printer onnected via USB and it woke up. Also, maybe it's just my imagination, but I think it takes longer to wake up when there's just one USB device connected instead of two.
I have a few other...
You mentioned a BIOS update caused you to see the same problem. Well I decided to update my BIOS again and I think the problem is gone. Before I had version F7 and before that I'm not sure what I had, but now I have version F8. I still want to test it one more night to see if it happens...
I tried disabling PME Wake event as well as HPET in my BIOS and my PC still wakes up. It looks like I've tried disabling every wake setting on my computer, in the BIOS as well as the OS, and nothing works. Looks like I'll have to shutdown my PC every night instead of putting it to sleep.
Would it make a difference if I said the printer connected to the computer is turned off? I've tried it with just the printer connected and even that wakes up the computer. I suppose I could try it with just a USB cable and nothing connected to the other end.
I just tried "powercfg...
I made sure to test it twice and I get the same message from "powercfg lastwake".
Wake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count - 0
So what does this mean? That my computer remembers waking up, but not what caused it? I know it is USB related, but I don't know why.
Yes I have a MagicJack. I got rid of my phone and TV service and now use MagicJack and watch TV over the internet.
I had read about that to determine what was waking my computer from sleep, but I did not know it could prevent items from waking a computer from sleep. Is there user...
I didn't know exactly where to post this, but this place looked as good as any considering the PC I built functions as a HTPC.
A few months ago I built my first computer (see sig for details) and so far I'm happy with how things turned out. :D There's just one problem that is rather...
Microsoft has their new Arc Keyboard which looks pretty slick. The only major down side I've read is they've replaced the four arrow keys with a rocker key. Also no idea if it too uses phantom key blocking. I just called MS customer service and asked if the Arc keyboard has issue with key...
Does anyone know of a cheap 4-pin molex to 3-pin adapter power cable to be used with a case fan? My PC case came with an adapter cable that had a single molex connector and three 3-pin connectors, but I can't find anything like it online. I'm searching because I want to add two more fans to...
I received the MK605 kit and it worked okay. Range was 20+ feet. The only downside to this KB & mouse is it feels like its made of cheap plastic. For the mouse, I'd like something that felt a little more solid and had a little texture to it. I have a V220 for my laptop and even though it's...
I have a MS wireless mobile mouse 4000 at work and it could do 10ft. I would have tested it further but I was having trouble viewing my computer screen at that distance.
The Enermax keyboards look nice, but I don't see the wireless one available at a store I'd purchase from.
I've...
I didn't think of bluetooth when I picked my HTPC components. I'm trying to search the internet for how to do make a bluetooth-enable PC and the only way I see is to use a bluetooth USB dongle. Most bluetooth keyboard and mice look to be expensive, however bluetooth might be the only way to...
I guess we're in a similar situation. I just remember that I'd like the kb & mouse to fit on my small lapdesk which is only 23" wide. Giving 7" for mouse room means the kb has to be less than 15" wide. The K340 is approximately 15.7" wide (see here).
I just noticed that Logitech has...
Here's one option I found that looks good, but it gets very close to the maximum budget I specified.
Logitech Wireless Keyboard K340
Logitech Wireless Mouse M505
Both retail for $49.95 and use Logitech's unifying receiver which is nice for me since the case I'll use only has two...
Does anybody have a quick recommendation for a slim wireless keyboard and mouse? This is for the gaming/HTPC in my sig (not built yet). Price would preferabbly be under $100. I'll try out a few mice and keyboards when I go out shopping later this week.
Hey obobski. There are two things I want to mention about what I said. First, I don't remember every suggestion that was given here, but I'm pretty sure every receiver people suggested was refurb. I also think a few of the speakers suggested were also used/refurb, but I could be thinking of...
About the only thing people keep mentioning is refurb/used equipment. I'm sure if I do go refurb, it would cost much less, but I'm not all that interested in used or refurb. I'm also only looking at one manufacturer for the entire set so that (1) they match and (2) hopefully the equipment was...
Thanks for the suggestion, EndersShadow. I'll keep this in mind
Here's one last n00bish question. Do manufacturers make just amplifiers for surround sound systems? All I saw were stereo and mono amplifiers. Would I use one stereo amplifier for the fronts, another stereo amplifier for the...
I started looking at how much a complete system will cost, and it looks like no matter which manufacturer I go with, a brand new 5.1 system like I've been looking at (including receiver/amp) will cost around $1200-$1300, which is just un-acceptable to me, even if I am buying peices over time...
I appreciate everyone's help and I think I have enough information to go from here. I just have one n00bish type question left. What's the point in having a sub if the lower frequency range is the same as the towers? I'm guessing it's not a matter of frequency but amplitude/volume.
I'll...
I think I've mentioned what I'm looking for pretty well in previous posts, but I'll summarize here again.
My goal is to be cheap. I'm not looking for super clarity or perfection, just something much better than a TV's own speakers. I'm also not looking for room-shaking bass or deafening...
I finally put a list together of all floorstanding speakers in my price range that I can easily purchase online and OMG there are a lot! Cheap systems aside, my list has 28 speakers, but only 11 of them look like good candidates. Now I just need to check their specs and search for reviews to...
I was hoping it would cost less than $250, but that was before I started to see what was available. I'll adjust my budget as I check out stuff. Almost like when I started figuring out what I wanted for computer components. I thought I could get the computer I wanted for less than $500, but...
