Amazon Prime Day is Oct 13-14

I'm specifically going to boycott it, as I have the past several years. I only use Amazon if I absolutely need to, they are far too much of a monopoly and anti-competitive at this point.

Note twenty and note twenty ultra pre orders with at&t

I miss the replaceable batteries from the phones of yesterday... I had LG V10 and V20, but that series turned into a royal mess, and no flagship level phones have replaceable batteries any more. I guess it's hard to do when you have a glass backplate for wireless charging or you want a more...

Note twenty and note twenty ultra pre orders with at&t

I'm still running a Note 9, going on two years now, and still pretty happy with it. Nothing has come out that really makes any sense to upgrade from... Maybe Note 11? Honestly, the things I really care about (battery, camera, sound) mean what I really need is to just get a decent camera and...

AMD 3950X $669.99 @ MC (Plus $20 off MOBO Combo)

I'm still holding out a bit of hope that they will have a bios update for 4000 series... My board has 128Mb bios memory. 🙃 Regardless, this is out of my acceptable price range - for what I do I'd be better off with a 10900K.

AMD 3950X $669.99 @ MC (Plus $20 off MOBO Combo)

Lowest I've ever seen this. Other process prices seem to be holding despite the 3000XT parts announced. https://www.microcenter.com/product/616858/amd-ryzen-9-3950x-matisse-35ghz-16-core-am4-boxed-processor

    AMD Ryzen 9 3900X $419.99

I feel like the jump from 3600X to 3700X isn't going to give you that big of a boost, certainly not any kind of future proofing. You might find in highly threaded games, but it'll be a while still before 16 threads are utilized for most. I'd suggest maybe waiting for the 3000XT series to drop...

    AMD Ryzen 9 3900X $419.99

I suspect we'll see it go even lower, closer the $389 MC's have it at now, and I wouldn't be surprised if it drops closer to $375 or $350 once 4000 series hits shelves.

    AMD RYZEN 7 3800X 8-Core 3.9 GHz $339.99

I've currently running a 1700X I can run at nearly 4GHz if I want to, so I figure it's not worth upgrading to another 8C16T cpu, yet. I'm going to wait until he 4000 series comes out, and then either go for a 3900X or a newer CPU, depending on the change in price/performance.

    AMD RYZEN 7 3800X 8-Core 3.9 GHz $339.99

Since 4000 series CPUs are clearly in the works (September?), I have to wonder when the prices for 3000 chips are going to see another drop.

[H]OT AMD 3900X for $400 at MC, plus $20 mobo combo discount

I'm lucky, it's only an hour from my house, and well worth the drive. I enjoy killing an afternoon or evening looking at all the gear. I also like supporting the local retailer, I'll be very sad if MC goes the way of Fry's...

    Upgrade?

I don't think it's about telling us any thing. It's simply not believable no matter what you might say. Maybe post a video capture with you in the settings menu, then game play and Frame counter visible? Again, I'm running a 1070GTX at about 2080 clock and 4450 Memory timings, and there's no way...

    Upgrade?

You said 125FPS, and when you said "everything maxed out on a 4K tv" the most reasonable assumption would be that "Maxed out" in this context would be at 4K.
  16. T

    Upgrade?

This can't possibly at 4K. I'm guessing 125Hz @4K would be difficult for a 2080 or 2080TI. Regarding the 2000 clock speeds, I think that's well within the capabilities of a higher end 1070 with a good liquid or even air cooler, nothing crazy. I get mine up to 2063 using the auto-overclock system...

    Upgrade?

Interesting. I guess I should know to expect it will vary by game. (ps., meant 144, not 114Hz in that last post.)
  18. T

    Upgrade?

Really? What games/settings are you using? I had to turn a bunch of stuff down with my 1070 (with clocks slighty higher than that, like 2063, can't remember the RAM speed right now) to keep 144 Hz at 1440p in Titanfall 2. Edit: 144, not 114 Hz (typo)

ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2080 Ti $999.99

I've been holding out for the 3000 series and hoping Big Navi knock down the prices in the meantime. My GTX 1070 is a quite long in the tooth at this point, especially now that I upgraded to a 1440p 144Hz monitor. I'm think an RTX 3070 should hit the spot... I hope.

    AMD Ryzen 7 2700X $164.99 shipped

FYI: the 2700X is $159.99 at Microcenter if you have one close by, minus $20 if you also bundle a motherboard. That doesn't include tax, but Amazon usually is taxed now and remember to try to support local...

New government issued android freephones (obamaphone) comes w/ permanent backdoor installed.

"Government issued" check. "Free," check. All these things are politically charged. I feel like this kind of attitude, and the very idea that you can have a non-political or truly neutral stance, is what leads to an incredible amount of bias in those policies in the first place. There's so many...

Even with the orientation and oil level they are using here? It seems like the coolant doesn't even get into the IO area on the MOBO, let alone up to the cables.

I've been doing the same thing. I cast from my phone to it in the morning during my shower. It's still shitty sound, but sound quality doesn't matter listening to youtubers talk about tech, and it's louder than my phone. I never even turn on the mic.

[Linus Tech Tips'] Response to YouTube's Shenanigans - Floatplane is Finally Here!

Not quite; they are marketing to a very specific subset of YT content creators, for very specific reasons. The fact that many of those providers will continue to put content up on YT, including LTT. This kind of generalized thinking (any video = youtube competitor) would pit the new Disney...

[Linus Tech Tips'] Response to YouTube's Shenanigans - Floatplane is Finally Here!

I'd challenge you to find a video where Linus tells people what to buy. At best, you'll find ones where he says "Don't buy this," or "if you are in the market for this, here's why you should strongly consider this." And he's unquestionably honest about both the experience of working with the...
