    DC Vault 2

Hi guys. Is there a link to show currently reserved work in Prime Sierpinski? I thought there was, but I can't find it. I've had a couple boxen crash as it gets warmer, and they've been on autopilot for so long I forgot what they were running. Anyway, I'll probably wrap up PRP and switch...

I see that we're now #5 in the DC Vault. Great job guys!

    DC Vault 2

I'd like to do something like this, but I currently just look at the Vault stats similar to Dr P. You're right that the missing element is how easy/hard it is to move up in a project. The reason we dropped Wieferich for a while is that it takes forever to advance, so usually the CPU time is...

    DC Vault 2

I'll work on a new priority list. I think GIMPS has dropped further, thanks to all the GPU crunching. Anything below 9K in the Vault will still be in the top 10 probably. I'm running Climate Prediction and Yoyo on my SR-2. There are a couple others helping out in Climate Prediction. I...

    X79 SR-2-Two Teaser

My other concern is the stability of the board. SR-2s are known to require some TLC and lots of BIOS fiddling to get a decent overclock. For example, I just noticed my SR-2 is not seeing one DIMM. If I could replace the SR-2 with a rock-solid board, I'd definitely upgrade.

    X79 SR-2-Two Teaser

I would love to upgrade to this monster. I'm not too worried about the mobo price, but what are the processors expected to cost (non-Extra Spicy)?

    DC Vault 2

GIMPS has a Linux x64 client but it looks like GPU is the way to go now. OGR-27 (distributed.net) has a variety of Linux clients. SoB and Yoyo are also good choices. I know Muon1 and Wieferich are Windows-only. I've been having trouble getting Docking work - BOINC seems to only be...

Heh that translated DPC thread was amusing. Looks like I'm finally starting to see some points in PSP again. I've been studying for the MCITP exam all week so I scaled back some crunching to keep the fans quieter in my office while I cram. I need to reintegrate a SmartUPS back into my setup...

    DC Vault 2

I restarted both PSP machines yesterday when I installed Windows updates. It says I have 36 tests assigned and that's how many threads are running. When I shut them down yesterday they all seemed to be crunching, so maybe they were idle before but recently got work. I'll let it run another...

    DC Vault 2

Congrats, everyone! Razor (or anyone), is something up with PSP? The stats aren't updating on Free-DC, but my local clients still seem to be crunching. I noticed I've been pulling double-check work recently, so I'm wondering if the servers are moving or if I need to update the IPs. I've...

    New build in progress

I have the same case and same mobo. :D No WC, just three fans in the top to help exhaust the heat. Looks like it will be a good build.

I think the idea behind the W@H point system is to have constant point output over time. For example, if the average PC five years ago was a Core 2 Duo, it would do 500 PPD (to pick a number). Today the average PC is a quad-core Sandy Bridge, but it still does 500 PPD. This means the guys...

    DC Vault 2

W@H has been stable for me over the last couple months, so it's not that bad. The weirdness is that the "multicore" client just runs a copy of the graphical client for each core, and sometimes the clients can behave oddly, so I avoid touching them after startup. The other weird/silly thing...

    DC Vault 2

My desktop SR-2 is done with RNA, but I still need to do some work on it this weekend before I start something new. I'd like to fire up some GPUs for GIMPS but my power bill is still around $350, down from the heat of summer but still pretty high. I'm looking forward to truly cold weather when...

It's nice to have a big hitter like phoenicis helping out, even if I do get mowed here and there. :D
  19. S

    DC Vault 2

So phoenicis is about to top my lifetime output in GIMPS in a couple days. GPUs look like they'll make as much difference there as they have in other projects. I have a bunch of GPUs that I can fire up when it gets colder.

    DC Vault 2

Good job on finding the GIMPS stat tracker, phoenicis. It's annoying that Free-DC doesn't track GIMPS. Great work on yoyo, DooKey.

I added the hex on PRP just now, so that's three hexes pounding away (and the new one is my fastest at 4GHz). I'm probably going to start back on Muon soon too. I still need to fix the i7 that had been running GIMPS, plus the UPS that is hopefully just a bad battery. Maybe I can work on that...

    DC Vault 2

I'm going to keep the SR-2 on PSP, but I just fired up a hex yesterday so I'll add that. It's finally starting to cool off a bit, but maybe that's just the rain.
  23. S

    DC Vault 2

Good job on Muon, phoenicis. I had the same CPU utilization issues on my SR-2, so I just run Muon on my lower-end hardware and run something else (like GIMPS) on the SR-2. I'm dealing with some leaks in my roof right now, but luckily they're not near any of the computers.

    DC Vault 2

I never lost power from Irene (or the Great Virginia Earthquake of 2011 :) either). My lights flickered a few times but I have a UPS on every computer. GIMPS is probably the #1 project, and we've lost ground there recently. If you run double-check work, it should only take a week instead of...

    DC Vault 2

I missed the W@H Vault update yesterday, but I knew it would probably be a lot of points. I'm going to keep running until I get to 500K personal points which should give us a bit of a cushion, but I probably won't try to overtake anyone else. It's just too slow and painful. We're about a...

    DC Vault 2

We're three days away from moving up a spot in Wieferich@home. That should be some nice points. I'm hoping I don't lose power today as Irene blows through, but hopefully it won't be too bad. Nice work on Muon guys.
  27. S

    DC Vault 2

I'll start Muon again when it gets colder. It's still hitting 90 degrees here, although the electric bill was a bit lower this month.

It sounds like a bad WU to me, but I personally haven't seen any. All of my WUs seem to finish as expected. It could be a sign of an unstable overclock.

    DC Vault 2

My power was out for several hours this morning - just my neighborhood so it must have been a blown transformer. I'm powering everything back up now. Power outages always expose UPS issues, so I might do some shuffling later this week.

    DC Vault 2

Welcome back to OGR-27, TheMTZ. Also good job on RNA World, phoenicis. Looks like you might catch me soon. I might start some more machines back up, but I want to see what my next electric bill looks like. The last two months have been painful.

I tried running Test4Theory and and the task immediately finished with an error. Hopefully they'll get the bugs worked out.

    DC Vault 2

I mentioned a while ago that I had one box running the RC of Home Server 2011. Well, it expired and started rebooting. Since that was the box running W@H, I installed Win7 on it, and it's back up and running now.

    DC Vault 2

That was it. I suppose the Notices tab might be useful for something eventually, but right now it's blank and therefore seems like a waste of space. At least the old tab showed what BOINC was doing behind the scenes. I've started my desktop SR-2 on RNA World, along with the two dedicated...

Anybody tried the new 6.12.33 version of BOINC? I just upgraded, and the new Notices tab is weird. Where can I see the old Messages data?

The new "died in the line of duty" thread

I think I lost a SmartUPS. It was still running, with the fan going full blast, but my home office smells like burning plastic. I must have run it at the redline for too long, although most of my computers have been powered down the past couple weeks due to the heat. I've moved my equipment...

    DC Vault 2

I see you showed up in the PRP stats today, so it looks like it's working. It sounds slow to me but I think the work varies in size, and you got some nice points, so it's all good.

    DC Vault 2

Hi guys. I turned off 3/4 of my machines because of the heat, but I'm still crunching PRP and W@H. mmmmmdonuts, I don't see you on the PRP stats. Have you added yourself to the team? I don't remember the process but there may be some manual steps.

    SR-2 Optimization Thread

I got different BIOS and software sensor readings between the two CPU voltages, but using a multimeter I always measured them the same, so I set them the same in BIOS. With good airflow I've been able to equalize the temps on the two procs too. I had to do a lot of voltage tweaking on the...
