Need some help building a computer that would play DIII, Mass Effect and Starcraft II. I generally have a good idea about what items to get but mainly need help putting together the best value mobo/CPU/GPU for my needs.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing...
My 2 year contract is just about up, and now Verizon pulls this nonsense. Time to switch to a new carrier... will be following this thread closely to see what others choose.
Yeah, I cleared the CMOS and removed the tiny little battery for like 15 mins as well.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? I'm not sure which item I should RMA or re-purchase. I'm pretty convinced it's the PSU at this point, as the ram should be able to POST and allow me to get into the...
I posted in General Hardware a few days ago about a few problems I had getting my build up and running but I've encountered a more specific problem lately, and I'm beginning to think it's tied to my motherboard.
Before we begin, specs as follows:
Intel E2180 w/ Stock HSF
2x1gb of Corsair XMS2...
Molex pin doesn't seem to make a difference plugged in or not.
Did a barebones POST, with one stick of ram, and the same thing happened. PSU sounds like it is turning on, then turns off, and then turns back on, and will continue to repeat. Will borrow another video card and maybe some RAM from...
The 8Pin ATX12V1 is plugged in as well now, but now it sounds like the CPU is turning itself on and off continuously in a cycle. After reading the manual I also have a 4pin you were talking about, to power the PCI Express. However after connecting the 4 pin as well, I have the same result.
I plugged the P6 Connector (from the PSU) directly into the 8600GTS' input, and I still don't get anything from my monitor... The fan on my GTS appears to be spinning so I'm assuming that there is sufficient power and that is on, but now I'm having trouble getting it to display on my monitor...
So I'm using an Abit IP-35 E, Intel E2180, BFG 8600 GTS OC, Corsair XMS2 2x1 gb ram.
I'm having problems getting my heatsink fan to spin (Rosewill Akasa Rebadge). I'm plugging it into the CPUFAN1 connection, but when I power it on nogo. Any suggestions?
Also I can't get my monitor to...
I've seen some posts around the internet of users installing trimmed down versions of Windows XP... probably around 215 mb of install space. Definitely sounds interesting.
I didn't really want to wait for the 900 models after thinking about it... There's no guarantee that the launch models will be Atoms, as in different interviews people have speculated that they might decide to roll out with the Atoms in the second revision or whatever.
Plus I don't really want...
I'll also be joining the Asus EEE club, bought it off another member, wohoo!
How are the stock speeds of the Asus? I'm contemplating whether or not I'll be overclocking... I definitely don't need it to do anything except light browsing and maybe some SNES roms, so I might just leave it stock...
I always thought the 690 looked a bit similar to the Antec 900, but now this comes along and just looks even more similar.
Both the 690 and 590 look nice, but I prefer the design of the 590.
Just wanted to test it out on my laptop

There are rumors that the EEE 900 will use the Intel Atom processor. Benchmarks for this processor aren't that impressive but battery life should go wayyy up. Looks like I'll wait for the 900 to come out before I pick up an Asus EEE!
Blargh, I shouldn't have went with the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7. 15% restocking fee because I bought it off eWiz.com, I might as well keep it or resell it.
Thanks for the help guys!
So I'm prepping for my first build, and I'm wondering if it was a mistake buying the Antec Sonata III. I got it pretty cheap $50 ar, so I can't complain, but I was wondering how can I optimize air flow in the case.
I've read that the optional front fan placement doesn't really intake that...
