Yea as of right now I don't have the money to spend since I just got out of college, but I will bump this thread when I do like you said. Thanks again for the help.
Yea sorry I didn't see the forum rules, fixed. thanks for the response, I was also wondering is a dual GPU setup (crossfire or SLI) at all bottlenecked by your screen resolution? like if I have a 1920x1080 monitor is that not going to take full advantage of both GPUs?
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

1. I would say "thank god I looked in the [H]otDEALS section of the forum today", then wait at my mailbox til it arrived, and make my not so great AM2 setup a whole lot better
2. Phenom
lately my keyboard and mouse occassionally freeze up, like for example with the keyboard sometimes ill type a word and it will do this "theeeeeeeeeeeeee" when i was just trying to type the word "the". with the mouse, it sometimes just freezes in place and the only way to get it moving again is...
hey looky who has a review on newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustratingReview.asp?item=N82E16835702002
thats a pretty sweet cooler, expensive as hell tho. jealousy overcomes greatly :(
if your going to buy the oc edition of the gts, you might as well buy the stock clocked gtx instead for a similar price. i dont see the point in buying a higher priced gts(especially since its so easy to overclock), when you just said you couldnt afford a gtx. it kinda defeats the purpose...
well how long are you willing to wait? because you have a couple options. you could buy a 7950 from evga, and within the 90-day limit on the step-up program you can trade in that card for a 8800gts. or you could just buy the 8800gts now if you dont wanna wait(im enjoying mine). or you could wait...
1.2 ghz overclock on stock cooling imo is pretty good since i can only get my 4200 450mhz up with a zalman cooler.
although i would like to see some benchmarks.
edit: btw what kind of set-up was used for that oc?
:D :D :D
finally sumthing to look forward to from amd, and at an affordable price. anandtech tested a brisbane and got a sumwhat decent oc but nothing spectacular or close to what a c2d can do. im hoping that amd can get it right cuz i really dont wanna switch to a new system since i built...
since we're debating on the psu, i would suggest this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817256006
and with the cash from the cheaper mobo, get a creative X-Fi sound card.
if you need to know how to build an sli-setup refer to this http://tools.corsairmemory.com/systembuild/report.aspx?report_id=12472 .its a alittle outdated but i found it very helpful when building my first rig.
screw the extra hard drives if all you do is game, if your gonna have a couple...
well i set voltage to 1.5 and tried 2.7 and i couldnt even start superpi without errors. so the best i could do is 2.67 and thats about it. although i can leave the voltage at 1.45, and when it was at 1.5 my temps were a bit too high, so i guess 2.67 is the limit.
well im using a zalman 9500 cpu cooler so i dont think temperature problems will be that big of an issue. ill bump the volts up to 1.45 and try for 2.7 and run superpi.
yea if the temps get up to 50 im gonna back down a bit. but i just dont know what the limit is with the voltage. ill give it a try tonite and see if i can maybe get it to 2.75ghz.
just did my first overclock last nite and i could only get my cpu stable at 2.63ghz with 1.4v. when i got to 2.7ghz with 1.425v i couldnt do a full run of superpi at 32m without errors. should i up the voltage more and see what happens? or is the voltage already too high? by the way, after the...
i plan on overclocking my system this weekend and im a bit of a nub at it. i was looking through the bios and i couldnt find where the memory dividers were. anyone know where they at?
im just looking to oc my video card and maybe my cpu. are there like safety settings that like underclock it back to default settings if it becomes unstable or overheats?
just wanted an opinion since ive never used ntune to overclock. i know its used alot for video cards but how well does it do with processors or motherboards?
replacing parts is alot easier than fixing them, and im tired of watching this slowly get worse to the point where it doesnt work at all. i might as well start with the motherboard and send that back since that seems to be the most logical problem at this point. then if that doesnt do anything...
ok, doing allittle research and reading the motherboard manual, and even emailing the motherboard manufacturer, he has told me to check the onboard led code and see if a certain number comes up when the problem occurs, ( if the led says FF that means its in its normal boot up ). i watched while...
well i have takin a large industrial fan, removed the side panel of the pc and let that blow on it for awhile and it still has the boot up problem. but ill try that and see if the color thing still happens when i get home from work.
well i dont wanna sit and watch it get worse so i guess ill be looking for a new psu, even though this one is pretty new itself.. I also might as well pick up a chipset cooler for like $20 and try that out and see if the two options work. I really wish there was another and cheaper way around...
ive gotten my gfx card temp down to 60s under load and everything else seems around 40c underload. the only thing that seems to be a bit high is the nforce 590 chip wich hovers around 60c or above
k first of all, im gonna assume this is primarily a gfx card problem because ive had one that did something similar to this. BUT... this could be something else because ive been having problems with this computer since i built it. The problem before this one was that i would boot my pc up and...
yes. prices are very high for mem right now, but i would rather pay for high priced mem thats of good value than buy cheap used mem with possible defects. id pay up.
yea that should b the latest version and yes headphones do make a difference. 40-50% rmp's should be ok and not too noisey depending on what you think is loud. but i would keep it reasonably high just because i like it at low temps.
if you mean like $430 for a kilowat psu, hell no.
but for like a minor upgrade like 750w, maybe.
i havent seen anyone that uses one of those 300w psu's that are dedicated for the gfx card only and fit in one of the drivebays, but i would consider one of those because they only cost like $80...
crossfire and sli = bad investment.
G80 = better performance than latest sli and cf.(like that other guy said).
people who have a 1280x1024 res monitor like me just need 1 really good gfx card for gaming, and are never going to need quad-sli or power hungry monsters like that.
ok well, i just found out this motherboard doesnt have an AGP slot, so i just wasted like 20 minutes taking everything out. im really out of ideas now. i think im gonna email or call foxconn this weekend and see if they can give me answers on this.
checked voltages on both the 24 pin connector and the 6 pin pci-ex connector, and both measured 12v almost exactly. so i guess that rules out my psu as the problem. im going to replace my x1900xtx with my old 6600 and see if i have a perfect boot up.
