If you are not looking to spend much then this one is pretty good. I have had this for over 6 months with no issues. The Joystick mouse works great and I have had no reception issues, but I am only about 10 feet from the pc. It not currently available at newegg, but I think frys carriers it if...
No you only need coax and an hd tv. The card you purchased, as mentioned above will tune in QAM channels. I had no luck with the software provided by hauppuage, but I was able to get about 58 channels with Beyond TV. It will depend on your cable provider.
If you are looking to record HD you only have a few options.
This will record any HD channel, to the best of my knowledge, but its expensive. You will also need to have it hooked to a set top box and use an IR blaster to control it.

GB PVR is free and would work well for what you are trying to do. I use meedio to organize and playback old videos and music. I do not know if you can find it online anymore though, they are no longer working on the program.
Some other ones to try would be Xlobby and Media portal.
If you...
My friend is in the market for a computer and I was going to help build him an HTPC, but his budget is around $600-$700.
He basically wants it for browsing the net on his tv, blue ray, music, roms, and movies. Maybe recording tv down the road, but a tuner is not needed at this time. He is...
I just installed that drive yesterday and had a similar problem. I had put in a 8600gt and was getting a lot of choppy playback. I fixed by installing the newest Nvidia driver and checking the Hardware acceleration box in Power dvd. Look at your cpu usage when playing back an hd video. If it is...
I apologize if this is not the correct forum. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if it was safe to have all of the following plugged into one wall outlet and running at the same time. I'm just a little worried because I know that the xbox, pc, and LCD use a lot of power. Thanks for...
I tried to post this in cooling a while ago, but got no responses. Anyhow, since it relates to an HTPC case I thought I would post it here. I bought the Thermaltake Lanbox lite case a few months ago and while I really like the case in general I cannot find a way to keep it cool. The Power supply...
I have converted all of mine to avi's using autogk and play them through the dashboard under videos in the XBOX 360. My small AVI's play fine, but the 360 seems to shutter everyonce in a while when playing a movie AVI. I don't think you play them through the media extender in the 360.
I was just wondering if anyone knows when hauppage and other tuner companies will start mass producing HTPC digital tuners, or if they ever will. I have a 1600 with QAM support, but as I understand it a digital cable card would be different. I have looked around and know that cable cards exist...
Speed Fan has temps as follows:
Temp 1 58C
Temp 2 33C
Temp 3 25C
HD1 34C
Temp1 40C
Core 49C
Core 63C
Ambient 0C
I also ran Everest and it showed the CPU temp as 40C. how do I find out which one is accurate.
Download a copy of meedio or GB PVR. Both are free.
Beyond Media or SageTV will also work great but they cost money.
Then get a firefly or MCE remote and you should be good to go.
Thats to bad. Hopefully they will get it figured out soon. It's so weird because my other files play fine and MCE works great on it. I'm in the process of formatting an external drive to Fat32 so I can see if directly hooking it up to the 360 makes a difference. Good Luck.
I have been looking all over the net for a solution, and actually ran across that page earlier. My tv files and movie files have been encoded the same way. So, I'm assuming they should both play fine. Small avi tv files don't skip. Also, WMC works great on the 360. I use autogk to encode my...
I have got my 360 connected to my htpc by ethernet. It has been playing back my archived tv avi files fine. Since it was working so well I thought I would back up my movie collection on the HTPC and use it to play off the xbox. However, these avi files seem to skip. The skips appear in the same...
I just finished rebuilding my HTPC and I'm having trouble playing a standard dvd in Power DVD ultra. The program just seems to freeze when I press play. DVD's play fine in WMP and VLC. Has any one had this problem or know a quick fix?
I have CCCP installed, DVD's did not work before or...
Yeah, I really hope they start creating some QAM tuners that will work with the frontends out there. Vista surprises me the most, you would think microsoft would be able to add support for QAM.
Is the 1800 just plug and play with Vista or do have to map all the channels like with the HD homerun?
Thanks for all the ideas. I think that AMD setup will do the job. I was worried about how the onboard video on these new boards preform, thanks for confirming that its not that good. The 8500gt sounds like the best way to go. I actually have the xbox HD drive already and have used it with my...
So, I have $350 bucks lying around and was thinking, why not blow it on an htpc rebuild.
Things I already have:
2 Hard drives
450 watt PS
Antec HTPC micro ATX case
Windows XP, Sagetv, beyond tv/media, and Power DVD ultra
2 Hauppauge 150 cards
2 Hauppauge 1600 cards QAM compliant...
I'm trying to run an ethernet cable from my router to my Xbox 360. The router is another room , but on a parallel wall. I have a coax jack on each side of the wall in the same position. So, I could just run the cable directly through the wall with some sort of flip up wall plate, but I would...
I got mine yesterday. I want to say it took about 1 1/2 to 2 months. They sent me all the titles I requested. Also, it is my understanding that the rebate is the same for all the HD players.
GB PVR is good, I have not used it in a while and I'm not exactly sure what type of improvements they have made to it. I think that it supports QAM and I know that it has a lot of nice plugins. Meedio is my favorite, but support for it is gone and I have had trouble with the guide.
If you...
I'm thinking of getting the HD Homerun and was wondering if anyone has used one of these with Vista. I have read some pretty good reviews and threads, but still have a few questions.
Will the HD Homerun work well with Vista's Guide, it seems like a few people have had trouble integrating it...
I was also wondering if most people are unable to watch hd dvd when the connect used is a VGA cable.
My set up is this and I have had no problems:
8500GT
VIZIO LCD
POWER DVD
XBOX 360 HD PLAYER
I have it connected to my tv with a VGA cable and HD DVD works fine.
Also is there...
I'm thinking of getting an X-box 360 hd player and was wondering if the following setups would work.
Right now I have a HTPC with an 8500 HDCP card in it, a 939 X2 4200, 2 gigs mem, and a ACER monitor( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009121) with DVI connection. I...
The way you had it originally is correct. I'd try reinstalling the drivers. Has the computer recognized the card yet? What program are you using to watch tv?
I've had it happen while watching a recorded video. I was watching the video around the general time that it usually crashes though. The computer also has no problem recording shows at least that I know of. Sometimes there are recordings around that time, but I don't think they are the cause. My...
Here is what I get in the error report. It's really weird my computer only seems to blue screen at night and it happens around 10-11PM. A lot of the times I'm not even using it when it does this. It would not really bother me, but I use it as a HTPC so it records shows and I like it to be on all...
This would probably do the job.

You'll need to get a software program to make it work. Girder is suppose to be good. I used one of these receivers with UICE and it allowed me to control any PC app I wanted to. You could also just buy an MCE remote that...
Thanks I post the code sometime tonight. I'm pretty sure it will blue sceen again soon. I did try googling it a few times. I think this problem may have to do with the Biostar MB bios or board. Or possibly some sort of conflct between the Onboard video and the 800GTO.
Okay so I keep getting a blue screen serious error reboot problem on my HTPC. It's really weird it never happens when I'm around. It seems to happen around 11PM every night. I've ran a memory test and everything seems okay there. The CPU temp is normal. I have also ran a registery cleaner. I...
I use this and it works great.

Just install it in a DVD drive space. Download the newest software for the media lab remote. I think the IMON VFD software is the same. Anyhow, the remote will turn the computer on and off. It...
