I am looking to setup a 24 drive norco box.
My google results are all 2 or 3 years old. Whats the best bang for your buck these days?
Mostly media. Nothing heavy.
Also if i populate this with 8tn or even 10tb drives.. Can windows see the full drive or whats the cap?
Thanks
While I'm not overly involved in that, All usb Sticks are SSD... So I think you may just be looking at a gimick to get sales, it may have a faster controller etc. but it's still just a USB stick.
Nice, I looked at the 10TB but they were just to pricey so I think my max build will be using 6, maybe 8 TB drives. got a case which will hold 15 easily so the goal is over 100TB usable :)
May as well get this started with the new year, we missed 16 :)
Welcome to the new, simplified [H]ard Forum Storage Showoff Thread
Anyone can post here regardless of system specs, but only standout systems will be shown in the "featured" systems section. For example:
50TB+
10+ Drives

After some more digging I think this may be best option

5x8TB in Raid 5 would give a pretty good single
Been trying to catch up on all this.
And it would seem port multipliers are getting bigger
Are these supported by most motherboards now or is a card needed?
As it seems win10 etc. all support raid and expansion options now, and pretty easily.
I'm trying to decide which way to best go to reach...
I hate being the guy to ask a question that's been asked 100 times.
But I'm looking to get a 24 bay norco, and want to set it up with a raid and expansion ability.
4TB HDDs, with expansion.
Googling gets results from 2012.
I know at one time a member on here had guides for this...
Hmm, yeah I'm thinking of that, the grid tie solar buckup packs, I'm just unsure if they are instant support. Most grid tie systems switch over, so there would be down time. killing everything.
I'm looking for a device, which I can put in my home, and wire to Deep cycle batteries.
Tie to the house power.
And run a power bar for my server/internet pc, etc.
Something that can be expanded for more time.
All google seems to find me is half assed basterdized versions.
I've got poor net access, I can use netflix, but it seems most of these add-ons are unable to dumb themselves down enough for me.
1channel worked, along with others. But wishing I had better internet for sure!
If you have a huge database, pseudotv is great!
I'm looking for ideas on how I can build a small pc, with dual hdmi tuner cards, that I can use to import (as well as outputs to control) my HD Bell Satalite.
Than wanting to tie the two streams into something my Multiple XBMC Gotham machines can access, where the XBMC machines remotes can...
Funny he keeps saying it over and over, he wants to use the live streaming add-ons which rely on torrent networks and other on demand services.
I want the same thing. But add-ons are not working properly sadly.
Also looking for advice on the latest and greatest addons.
I already have one of the mv8 cards. Sadly it wont work with the current PC. I'm looking to build a server with expansion room. Probably run a freenas or something along those lines.
Right now I'm looking for a budget motherboard/cpu and ram combo I can stick in a standard case I have. And...
I was eyeing this one up, and as far as I know XBMC has been released and fully supported as an android App.
Has anyone tried this out yet? see if it will display your cover art etc. nicely?
I was thinking the same thing. using the bottom left corner as my main switch, and running out to the other's.
I'm thinking the switch listed on the last page is my best choice, has gig uplink.
Potentially. But I have to weigh the costs of another switch and shorter runs. vice running say a thousand or more extra feet of cat6, plus the labour of running more cable Over having 4 hubs and spinning off that.
Plus I could do them one at a time for cost wise.
Thinking of using something like this. since I will be running LED flood lamps, I won't have any high draw's. So a few of these may work nicely :)

Edit:
Here's the rough field layout, the top is 250+ feet, with no end wall...
Not sure what you'd like me to draw? the over all field is 300x350'
the entire area will be playable with an admin area in the bottom left corner, which woul dbe where my pc/control/server would be.
The idea of having 4 switches evenly throughout the field seems the best solution.
Now to find...
the 4 in a square would be ideal. after thinking of it. I believe that patter would be best!
I'd have less camera's around the outside anyway.
How would the 4 be connected? better to have 4 nics on the pc and run all in? Or one main switch feeding the 3 others than back into the server? Would I...
Thank you for the link.
Cable lengthis an issue, I was wondering if multiple 8 or 12 port switches spread evenly would be a better option. As a single central switch would result in a CRAP load of wires being run all over the place.
Seeing as the server would be in one of the corners. I could...
Day is okay. I plan to have flood lights near the cameras on motion sensors for added effect. may not be a great picture.. but meh.
I will be running a few night vision camera's but those are more for actual night security rather than in play watching.
That camera's nearly the same price as the...
Thanks.
Can anyone confirm the distance I can make cat6 travel outdoors? I'm hearing 150' others are saying 600'.... if it's 600' for real, than It saves me a crap load. I can run everything off one central location.
Thank you
We are in the process of launching a new paintball field. and part of this plan will eventually include area wide security cameras, HD preferebly, for security as well as for people not playing to view on screens. And a PA/music system throughout the field.
This will be all out doors. and the...
The format doesnt really matter. the samsung tv plays it all, so no transcoding should be needed.
Maybe? but that makes no sense why the server needs to be able to transcode?
will look into tvmobil. Thx!
My tv will play anything off usb. but using dlna server with tversity, and bunch of crap won't work.
mkv for example. is this a lack off codecs on the server side? because off a usb drive the tv works fine.
Just want to get this damn thing working.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
actually.. one of the programs recovered the list of names, and I searched my laptop. as I new the files on the hdd were a backup but I couldnt find the original.
So I searched the laptop. and found them within my cameras software for downloading.
So I had them all along but those wernt...
Okay guys thanks for all the help. I got the files back for the wedding. The other 1tb of data i may try to recover. but I'm just happy I got these back.
Thanks!
partition deleted, but i am unable to recover it. at least I dont think I can. so it's running a deep file search. as if wiped. hopefully that will pull up what I am after.
I was formatting some drives. and I accidentally deleted a partition of one of my 2tbs
than I created a new one...
Well my wedding videos were on that partition. I removed the new partition hoping to recover it. but I am unable to find the original.
Theres a butt load of other stuff on...
