Laptop (M1530) refuses to sleep/hibernate (comes right back up)

It sometimes goes into sleep mode just fine, but apparently it's decided to be extra fussy today and not do anything. Running Vista Home Premium. If I put it into sleep/hibernation mode, it does the usual power-down thing but, when it reaches the black screen and would usually shut off, it...

If you're a gamer, game over: http://www.digitalversus.com/duels.php?ty=6&ma1=88&mo1=237&p1=2302&ma2=88&mo2=316&p2=3023&ph=11. 3007WFP-HC beats the hell out of the 3008 in terms of input lag. And if you're a gamer, that's likely going to matter.

Comparison of the two: http://www.digitalversus.com/duels.php?ty=6&ma1=88&mo1=174&p1=1747&ma2=88&mo2=390&p2=3609&ph=12 Those are numbers on lag for the two monitors in question. The 2707 does appear to have a fairly substantial drop in lag over the 2709, but it's still significant. This...

Dell 3007WFP + Dell M1530 Laptop. Only able to get 1280x800 on the 30"...

The 2707 is TN or S-IPS? What kind of colour, etc. does it have compared to the 3007WFP? Or is it S-PVA, but somehow devoid of the lag issues? Thanks for this tip. I might just replace it with the 2707... Weaker contrast and stuff, but that lag bugs the Bejesus out of me.

Dell 3007WFP + Dell M1530 Laptop. Only able to get 1280x800 on the 30"...

On my old PC, I had it running at 1920x1200 just fine. But I'm guessing it was still putting out 2560x1600 and scaling it down to 1920x1200? And now this video card can't do 2560x1600, and refuses to scale 1280x800 UP to 1920x1200? Lame. Will have to keep the 27" then. F*ing input lag. Note...

Dell 3007WFP + Dell M1530 Laptop. Only able to get 1280x800 on the 30"...

I don't think that's true... Especially of the 27" reaches 1920x1200 on the same cable, hooked up to the same laptop (and the same video card). And 1280x800 isn't half of 2560x1600; it's one quarter. I'll try the cable at lunch and see what happens.

Dell 3007WFP + Dell M1530 Laptop. Only able to get 1280x800 on the 30"...

Well I have a 2709 27" that gets 1920x1200 on it with the same cable, but the monitor's garbage (about 50ms input lag) and is going back to Dell for a refund. I'll try buying a Dual-Link HDMI-to-DVI cable and seeing if that gets me any higher...

Dell 3007WFP + Dell M1530 Laptop. Only able to get 1280x800 on the 30"...

Using a DVI-to-HDMI cable, I've got my 30" (capable of 2560x1600) connected to the M1530's GeForce 8600M and am only able to set it to a maximum of 1280x800. Do I need a dual-link cable to pull off anything higher than that? I'm not expecting to get 2560x1600, but I'm hoping to get 1920x1280 at...

Dell 2709 with HDMI: Will I even get to native res of 1920x1200?

Hmm. Well, if FutureShop's cool with selling me an adapter with a good chance of my returning it a half-hour later, then I'll test it tomorrow on my brother's laptop and let you all know. I'm expecting failure, too. But what a happy surprised it'd be...

Dell 2709 with HDMI: Will I even get to native res of 1920x1200?

You're *positive* the 8600M video card in the M1530 can't power the 30" over HDMI? The specs on the card state that it's dual-link DVI, but because the laptop doesn't have a DVI port, I'm left assuming that they've converted it to HDMI. And if HDMI = DVI + sound, then this HDMI port could very...

Dell 2709 with HDMI: Will I even get to native res of 1920x1200?

I bought the 2709 because people on the forums were telling me that HDMI wasn't sufficient to power a Dell 3007WFP (30" - 2560x1600). I've got a Dell M1530 laptop on its way now, along with the 2709 because I was told that the M1530 wouldn't be able to power the 30" because it didn't have...

Dell 2709 with HDMI: Will I even get to native res of 1920x1200?

I just bought a 2709 (it's in the mail) and my only connection option is through HDMI; no DVI. Will be able to run it at native 1920x1200, or will I actually be stuck at 1920x1080?

Bought an XPS 1730: Why're my fonts HUGE?

Bought an XPS 1730: Why're my fonts HUGE?

WUXGA screen. I'm guessing they think I'm blind, as they've hacked the default "Normal" font-size setting in the "Appearance" tab, so now "Normal" is "Large", "Large" is "Huge", and "Extra Large" is "Effing GINORMOUS". Any idea how I can reset these to the normal? Is there a file in /WINDOWS...

Buying a Dell: Which screen type (UXGA, etc) would you suggest for graphic design?

I've always heard the Quads were far worse in games. They focus on quality, not quantity. The GFs are the opposite. In any case, what's this Dell outlet you speak of? :P

Buying a Dell: Which screen type (UXGA, etc) would you suggest for graphic design?

My reason for wanting a Dell: The warranty. Apple likes to jerk people around from what I've seen, and the same appears to go for HP as well. Dell, on the other hand, seems not to ask questions. The precision would be nice, and I might consider it, but the M1730 looks like I get a more versatile...

Buying a Dell: Which screen type (UXGA, etc) would you suggest for graphic design?

Ah, well that does sound handy... Though, how am I to know which dock does this magical Dual-Link DVI trick, and which laptops (or video cards) are capable of it? I'd imagine the dock specs would list "dual link DVI" somewhere, but the laptops' specs might well leave it out, no? Thanks again...

Buying a Dell: Which screen type (UXGA, etc) would you suggest for graphic design?

Ah, cool. I'm not sure how that works, though... How does it make Dual-Link DVI without actually having it? But if it does it, that's cool. I'll have to talk to a Dell rep to see what's up. Though I'll likely just buy one with a decent video card.

Buying a Dell: Which screen type (UXGA, etc) would you suggest for graphic design?

Hehe. Way ahead of ya! http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1316706 - The laptop would still need a DLDVI port regardless of the dock, no? I don't know how docks work, but I figure if the laptop's video card can't power a DLDVI, the dock won't be able to make up for it? Bleh. All...

Buying a Dell: Which screen type (UXGA, etc) would you suggest for graphic design?

Ah, I would really like to stay away from glossy... Are all WUXGAs glossy? Or ust the TrueLife? Reflections suck, and in my experience with glossies, the colours are brighter in the center of the screen and darker as they approach the edges. Moving your head around will move the "bright spot"...

How would I connect my 30" monitor to a laptop?

I haven't bought a laptop yet, but I'm looking at a Dell for sure, and am wondering if any laptops at all come with dual-link DVI ports, which is what this monitor requires to run at its native 2560x1600. Do most new ones support it? XPS? Latitudes? Or am I just screwed? Thanks for any info...

Buying a Dell: Which screen type (UXGA, etc) would you suggest for graphic design?

I have no idea what the differences are. I just need even tones, good viewing angles, brightness, and colour fidelity. Price doesn't really concern me, either. Having a lame monitor would be baaaad. PS: Going 17 inch, and need 1920x1200 or whatever their highest resolution is. I believe...

Westinghouse W3: desktop has shifted a bit off screen?!

This is nothing short of "effing weird". My brother's monitor, the W3, has somehow decided that it should shift its DVI display about 10 pixels right and 30 pixels down, thus cropping the image by just as many pixels. The result: I see what's inside the red rectangle below (note: he's heightened...

    Questions regarding the Dell 3007...

    1. It'd be fine, I'm sure. The 8800GTX is good. You know that. Plus the monitor can be run at half resolution (1280x800) without any interpolation, and looks beautiful. So you'll have no problem running any game at full settings at half res, I'm sure. 2. ... Why would it be too much handle? You...
