Using a DVI-to-HDMI cable, I've got my 30" (capable of 2560x1600) connected to the M1530's GeForce 8600M and am only able to set it to a maximum of 1280x800. Do I need a dual-link cable to pull off anything higher than that? I'm not expecting to get 2560x1600, but I'm hoping to get 1920x1280 at least...

Thoughts?

I don't think the M1530 supports DVI Dual Link and that's the reason why you're getting 1280x800. You also need a dual link cable.

Well I have a 2709 27" that gets 1920x1200 on it with the same cable, but the monitor's garbage (about 50ms input lag) and is going back to Dell for a refund.

I'll try buying a Dual-Link HDMI-to-DVI cable and seeing if that gets me any higher...

it won't, you need a dual link dvi cord and a video card that is capable of outputting dual link dvi. Otherwise, your limit will be 1280 x 800 sorry.

I don't think that's true... Especially of the 27" reaches 1920x1200 on the same cable, hooked up to the same laptop (and the same video card). And 1280x800 isn't half of 2560x1600; it's one quarter.

I'll try the cable at lunch and see what happens.

Hint: It won't work as stated above.

3007wpf lacks a scaler, so unless you computer can scale 1920x1200 up to 2560x1600, you're out of luck. 1280x800 and 2560x1600 are the only two resolutions the monitor will display. Any other resolutions have to be scaled up to those two by the video card.

There's the key. If you want anything between 1280x800 and 2560x1600 the video card has to scale it up to 2560 for the monitor, since the monitor lacks a scaler of any kind. That's the crappiest part about the monitor, which makes it unusable with the a lot of laptops.

On my old PC, I had it running at 1920x1200 just fine. But I'm guessing it was still putting out 2560x1600 and scaling it down to 1920x1200? And now this video card can't do 2560x1600, and refuses to scale 1280x800 UP to 1920x1200?

Lame. Will have to keep the 27" then. F*ing input lag. Note to all: S-PVA panels suck. I will sorely miss my 30" S-IPS. *salutes*

maybe you should try using the 2707, I used that w/ my laptop w/ out the lag issues of the 2709...plus it's cheaper...

or you can shell a few more bucks for a gateway or a LOT more bucks for the dell 3008 which have scaling capabilities

also S-PVA's look damn good when compared to a TN panel, this is comparing the 2707 I used to use (which I gave to my brother) and the 2 Gateways I'm currently using

The 2707 is TN or S-IPS? What kind of colour, etc. does it have compared to the 3007WFP? Or is it S-PVA, but somehow devoid of the lag issues?

Thanks for this tip. I might just replace it with the 2707... Weaker contrast and stuff, but that lag bugs the Bejesus out of me.

the 2707 is not a TN or S-IPS, I believe it's a MVA or S-PVA panel, but I played extensive amounts of CSS w/ out issues, and my brother still uses it to play AOC, CSS etc...

best of luck and keep us posted

Comparison of the two: http://www.digitalversus.com/duels.php?ty=6&ma1=88&mo1=174&p1=1747&ma2=88&mo2=390&p2=3609&ph=12

Those are numbers on lag for the two monitors in question. The 2707 does appear to have a fairly substantial drop in lag over the 2709, but it's still significant.

This compares the 2707 (the winner from above) to my 3007WFP (though this is the HC model, but I think the panel itself is the same?): http://www.digitalversus.com/duels.php?ty=6&ma1=88&mo1=174&p1=1747&ma2=88&mo2=237&p2=2302&ph=12

So now we've gone from lag of 46 on the 2707 to 11.5 on the 3007.

Looks like I'm not going to come close to that 11.5 no matter what route I take.

yeah the 2707 is a MVA screen, its really nice. Overall a good investment.

I'm actually reading the 3008 thread right now, as I'm debating between the 3007 HC vs 3008....

argh the dilemma!

I do game, but I do a lot more movie watching, web surfing, multi-tasking stuff...

my dilemma is that the HC has no warranty and the 3008 does, the 08 has multiple inputs where I can hook up my 360, the 07 doesn't...08 is plagued w/ back lighting issues and higher input lag than the 07...

don't know, the price difference (used) isn't significant
