I have a high capacity battery ordered for my new budget laptop from mdsbattery.com, I haven't heard much about them so I guess that I will have to report back when it arrives.
It's quite possible that you have hit the practical overclock limit, there are plenty of e6600 that won't do 400x9, you just don't hear people bragging about them. That CPU will likely go higher with more voltage, but the diminshing returns and rapidly increasing heat load will make it...
I usually change my fonts to larger sizes or increase the desktop DPI when text is small enough to cause eye fatigue.
- Tip - Hold down Control and scroll your mouse wheel in and out to change zoom/text size in many apps like MS Word and Firefox
Anything from around the 6800 series and up should handle most games with playable framerates no problem, but it depends on how much "eye candy" you want to turn on. I have been running 1600x1200 LCDs for a couple of years now, first I had the Dell 2001FP and now I have a Samsung 214T. My...
This 8800GTX is the first time I have ever purchased the highest end card available, I have always been one to buy the next to highest card, ie Ti4400 instead of the 4600, 6800GT and 7800GT instead of GTX, 1900XT not XTX. I think I would have been satisfied with a GS but I have no regrets...
I think it's pretty damn expensive, but I still paid the price for an 8800GTX, and don't regret it a bit :D I can't remember the last time I bought a PC component and didn't overclock it because it was fast enough out of the box. If you want to be an early adopter who is riding the bleeding...
Well, Vista incompatibilities have been few and far between but I am hesitant to fully swap over yet. My newspaper's website doesn't work under Vista right now, so that's one annoyance. The main programs I am a bit iffy about are my Palm hotsync software and Motorola phone tools. My XP...
What kind of voltage are you feeding the RAM? How's the cooling on the memory and northbridge? Could also be you need more voltage, I am not sure how much droop those boards have, 1.4 bios could be only 1.35 actual.
I have been hunting around for a while for an easier way to keep my Outlook mail and calendar synced between my Vista and XP installs. Right now my method involves manually exporting my personal folder to a .pst file on a different drive. I have two files in the backup folder, xpversion.pst...
I am suspecting that with mature drivers many programs will perform better on Vista than XP. Vista uses more memory than XP - which is a good thing IMO. XP thrashes the shit out of the page file when there is plenty of memory available. I bought a 2Gb kit to use it, not to have half of it...
It isn't slow at all for me, it is actually quite responsive and smooth. This week I got my free copy of Vista Business from school, and replaced my RC2 install with it. I have yet to find a program that won't run on it, some require using XP compatibility mode, but that's only a click or two...
With a tri-boot setup the Linux OS is the last one you install, otherwise the M$ operating systems will overwrite GRUB. You just need to add the Vista location as another OS under GRUB, selecting it will chain you off to the Vista loader where you can choose from Vista or XP. GRUB has worked...
I use multiple partitions on one hard drive, I delete/create partitions for both operating systems with the XP disk partitoner at the beginning of the XP install routine. I actually have a triple boot going with Linux but anyhow back on topic...
Windows XP MUST be installed first. If you...
My whole Badaxe 2 based system can install Vista perfectly, in fact there isn't a hardware item without drivers after the initial install of RC2. That's right, native support ever since beta versions :D Getting a copy of Vista Business this week, should be a smooth install this weekend.
Right now I see moving to Vista from XP being analagous to a new car purchase.
Your current car "Betsy" is only a couple years old, and has a lot of life left in it. It is mechanically sound, comfortable, and pretty easy on the eyes. When it first came out there were many major and minor...
Crucial will always use Micron chips, they are a division of Micron ;) Whether or not they are D9 or not I'm not sure, I bought my PC2-800 Ballistix several months back when they had a monster buy on them with a rebate.
I have had the Gigabyte DS3, Asus P5W64-WS Pro, and the Intel Badaxe2, and the Badaxe 2 is the best board of the 3 by far. All 3 were pretty decent in their own rights, but the Intel board overclocks better, is more stable, has better documentation, and better software. No contest, BX2 wins :D
Mine seem to work fine, although the front panel "Mic In 2/Input 2" doesn't work, but I'm not sure if that's a hardware or driver issue. Either way it makes the front bay completely useless, mic/headphone front input option is the only reason I bought a platinum version.
Not trolling, just was very underwhelmed with the game, and wondering if its really worth spending the time on. I really hate the graphics, but I despised Doom3 too. I'm running it on a 47" 1080i rear projection Samsung.
I have tried to get into this game because of all the hype, but I just can't see what the big draw is. The graphics suck, and the controls are really wonky. My bro picked it up over Xmas, and after his initial hour or so checking it out, this title is relegated to collecting dust next to the...
I have really been enjoying this game, it has been a lot of fun. It does a lot of things better than any of the GTA games did, and adds its own custom touches. This is by far my favorite game out on 360 so far.
I just got my BX2 yesterday, got OS installed and a moderate OC going so far. My first impressions were very positive, and coming from a P5W64 that's saying a lot. This board has the best documentation I have ever seen ship with a mobo. It's a great package, and a pretty good looking one as...
The Gigabyte DS3 is a good board in the lower price range. Maybe more options than you will use, but a good board for the money regardless. I had one for a while and at stock and moderate overclock it was a great board.
E6600 Week 28 Core2 Duo
This chip runs orthos stable at 3.42, 380x9 with around 1.45v. YMMV, I'm not the world's best overclocker so it may do better or worse for you. This is the same processor that is in my OC database entry.
$275 shipped in the US, paypal regular or cc...
Right now from what I've seen results are all over the board, there is no real dominant week, it just comes down to luck in getting a particular chip that clocks well. The only real dominant ones have been the week 28B chips that are sold overseas.
Hmm guess it depends in which Ballistix set you choose, the PC2-6400 stuff fires up just fine at default voltage. I have read about some problems with the 5300 speed stuff though, it has higher voltage requirements at default speed.
Plug into the top yellow port, that will be SATA 0. The 4 yellow ports are SATA0-3, which are controlled by the Intel ICH8 southbridge, the 2 purple ones are the GSATA gigabyte/jmicron controlled ports.
In the Integrated Peripherals section of the BIOS there is a setting for SATA0-3 Native...
Vista RC2 64bit works perfectly with my 6600 and P5W64 WS Pro. The only thing that doesn't work is the Marvell secondary SATA controller, no drivers for that yet. I installed Avast home antivirus today (free version :D ) and it seems to work fine. X-fi drivers work now, I don't think they are...
I think the general consensus is 1.5 on good quality air and 1.6 on water. 1.4 is more or less factory voltage,I guess some people are into the undervolting thing though.
I wonder how much this will change when DFI releases the RD600? I think its gonna be a killer board, but it may be too late to market to capture a lot of the hardcore enthusiasts.
The Centurion is a really nice case, especially for the money. I built a budget gaming rig for my brother's best friend inside one of those cases and he really likes it. I was impressed by how solid the case was, being a cheaper case I was expecting it to be a bit flimsy, but its built like a...
It's good to see Josh on the [H] team. I have enjoyed his work over at MaximumPC (been a subscriber for years) and look forward to seeing more quality reviews.
