I'm looking to switch to a 6850 (I like the low power consumption as I'm now paying my own electricity and it's expensive, less power means less cooling).
Do you think the prices will stick around the MSRP for the next few months or do you think there will be a drop in the near term? Want to...
A lot of games (and movies) seem to take place around 2150. My friend and I had thought up a more exhaustive list earlier, so I know there are more than those listed below.
Doom 3
Battlefield 2142
Avatar, takes place in 2154
Anyone know when Quake 4 takes place? Any more that you can...
Is there are firewall that allows you to approve each packet which is incoming? I realize it seems kind of extreme, but this is for a machine that wouldn't be doing any web browsing so approving a new packet for each web page loaded wouldn't really be an issue. The only packets would be when...
Microsoft looked at the iPhone and wanted to copy it's popularity. So, they looked at the differences between the iPhone and Windows Mobile that are the most obvious as viewed through the MS paradigm:
1. iPhone only sells Apps through the app store and otherwise doesn't let you install them...
That is a surprise. At least they quickly recognized it's a lost cause and didn't waste a lot of time trying to develop a concept that wasn't going anywhere.
It is quite nuts when you consider this was to be the successor of the Danger. So their business plan:
1. Buy Danger, maker of the...
This is back. I bought Office and one copy of 32 bit Windows 7 AND a copy of 64 bit Windows 7.
YES, I realize the keys are interchangeable. But this way you can get two copies of Windows 7 Professional. An extra key for $30 will doubtless come in handy.
Also Office 2010 is much better, and...
From about 18mm to 8mm (half inch to a quarter inch).
Here are some (somewhat) better pictures. Sadly, this is as good as it gets with my cellphone camera.
Comparing the old plastic bezel to the thin metal bezel.
The rear of the monitor, I plan to paint the removable metal housing...
No, there's no risk of that. They're quite well hidden behind the metal shield.
The risk of a toddler spilling something into the sensitive control circuits is the much more apparent danger.Unlikely, but the risk is somewhat greater without the plastic shield. If you do try it, report back...
Disclaimer: You may very well damage or destroy your monitor if you attempt this. Your monitor may be different and this may not even work for you. You have been warned.
I recently have fallen back on a L90D+ 19" monitor while traveling, the FW900 is just too impractical. I quickly got tired...
Hey, anyone have an old copy of HL1 they are not using any more? Also, I need a key not registered on steam. Of course, I'm not just buying the key, its just the key can't be registered on steam.
PM me if you are selling.
Or, if you are a hard core spendthrift.

At my local Walmart they sold for $6. About the price of one can of compressed air depending on where you're buying. Just put the slightly larger plastic nozzle on it (comes with it)...
Done, now a single power switch controls both PSUs.
In this picture you see a wire splice on the internal AC line in the primary PSU (warranty already expired anyway)
The whole thing working!
Basically, the primary PSU has a power cord comming out of it with a PSU style plug on the...
Agreed, if you're doing a new build. But since I already had a high quality Seasonic supplying all the expensive components (Mobo, CPU, Video card), there's no need to replace that when I all I need to power are fans and drives.
Well, it does mean you can provide power to the GPU using a second power supply while powering the Mobo with PSU #1. That's pretty significant because the GPU is a big power draw. In one pop you can take off 100 watts of load from your primary PSU, no need to rewire all the fans and re-do cable...
Good point, but the voltage provided to the PCI-e supplemental connectors are standard, I do believe. So make sure the motherboard is being powered entirely by one PSU, but if you like you can power the GPU on the second PSU. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
For kicks, I tried running this...
I just added a second PSU in with relay wired to the first PSU, I can post pictures if anyone likes.
It works well, resumes from sleep correctly. One PSU runs the motherboard and Video card. The second PSU runs all my fans, drives, and provides power to my 4870 over one of those old...
Yup. I'm buying ALL AMD since they started doing badly. Monopoly in the CPU market = very bad.
Now, if they were really teh sux on a price performance ratio, then I'd switch. But they compete on price performance within reason, so let's throw our lot in with AMD. Also, they were early to...
First a little back story. I got a 4870 last week, and after running for an hour it immediately struck me as running a little hot. I thought maybe it was just the retaining clips on the top of the card though, so I didn't think anything of it. Also I figured ATI wouldn't have released such an...
I do wonder though, I have all the respect for Eclipse, but that MX440 is a bit long in the tooth.
Anything newer he could test with? I specifically wonder about the effect of a 1Ghz vs. 2.6Ghz hyper transport bus on new video cards like the Radeon 4570 or Geforce 280.
Sadly, I can't...
Yeah that seems like a good idea, I'm going to put the new BIOS on and if that doesn't solve it I'll put in a support ticket. Not too much of a problem for me, but would be useful to give their support department a heads up.
I just upgraded to a Phenom 9850 Quad Core.
My current motherboard is a M2N32 SLI Deluxe, so that's limited to 1000MHZ HT. My RAM is 800 MHZ.
If I upgraded to a ASUS M3A32-MVP, with a 2600MHZ hyper transport would that offer an improvement?
I'm going to be getting a Geforce 260 (or an...
I just updated my BIOS and now I cannot access the BIOS setup. I'm not sure if this is related to my recent upgrade from an X2 6000 to a phenom X4 9600.
Everything else works normally. But I can't get into the freaking BIOS setup screen.
I flashed the BIOS to the most recent version...
Yeah, that makes the quad core segment a little less clear. With the higher price of motherboard though its still cheaper to get AMD. Especially with the black edition unlocked multiplier and people that already own AMD motherboards.
I've got a M2N32-SLI Deluxe, with 4GB 800MHZ DDR2 RAM.
The AMD compatibility wizard lists all of these as being compatible with my motherboard:
* AMD Phenom X4 Quad-Core 9850 (B3) 125 W
* AMD Phenom X4 Quad-Core 9750 (B3) 125 W
* AMD Phenom X4 Quad-Core 9650 (B3) 95 W...
Well said. AMD Quad Core is the cheapest way to get quad core. I want a quad core for Supreme Commander, what's the best way to get it for $200. AMD.
People are DUMPING on AMD, fine by me, it means people who are not blinded by what's at the high end and actually want the best thing they can...
Does Creative have anything that allows me to change modes via a system tray tool like the X-Fi mode changer? Mode Changer seems to beat my CPU and often times doesn't work. Going into the audio console is somewhat of a pain.

The majority of students need a computer for writing emails, writing papers, preparing presentations, listening to music, watching DVDs and using their digital camera or iPod.
An Apple has a good warranty, it's easy to use. You can get the same thing in a PC, but it has momentum going against...
WINDAS does adjust focus a bit. It allows you to access dynamic convergence adjustment, adjusting convergence on every square inch of the screen. It takes some practice to get it perfect, but my FW900 is extremely sharp now that I've learned how to use WINDAS. I'm of course assuming that there...
I disagree that consoles equal the quality of a $2,000 PC. An economically built PC could easily match the PS3. And the Wii doesn't even come close. Haven't played the X-Box 360, but it doesn't seem to be a whole lot better then my brother's two year old PC, which would probably get a resale...
Seems unlikely, lighting effects are getting good enough that ray tracing has lost much of its edge. Even though you're not talking about full true reflections, it looks quite good for the common user and they'd probably prefer to have more objects instead of photo-realistic reflections...
Well said, before the end of the format war Blu-ray and HD-DVD players were likely below market price. Perhaps they weren't losing money on them when one accounts for only the raw materials and manufacturing costs, but they were certainlly less profitable then other electronics in their lineup...
