First a little back story. I got a 4870 last week, and after running for an hour it immediately struck me as running a little hot. I thought maybe it was just the retaining clips on the top of the card though, so I didn't think anything of it. Also I figured ATI wouldn't have released such an expensive piece of hardware without testing to make sure it's not at risk from overheating.

This weekend I had a big LAN gaming session, and was gone for a few hours and left my computer on. While I was gone I think the 4870 really overheated, because it just sat there for two hours displaying lines and graphical glitches. My useless friends didn't shut down my computer so it was probably sitting very hot for those two hours.

Since then I followed the advice listed on this thread and haven't had any problems with over heating. But now my computer will no longer resume from S3 suspend mode. It comes back with lots of weird graphical glitches and crap, and Vista tries resetting the graphics driver a few times then I get a blue screen with the ATI driver listed as the culprit. It will wake up from S1 suspend mode fine though (S1 sucks though).

Is the problem waking up from S3 suspend an ATI graphics driver bug, hence not a problem with my card, or is my card maybe a bit toast?

Try running regular driver cleaner protocol, and re-instal your drivers, this doesnt sound like a hardware issue
