I doubt with onboard you'll actually experience "wayy better" sound. But if you're paranoid about your sound as I am, then select kernel streaming, and resample to 48000Hz as your onboard probably does this internally. I don't know if your card will support 24bit sound, but you can try it. Oh...
Hell, I watch DTS ES 6.1 DVD's on my 2.1 speakers, just make sure your DVD software is set for as many channels as it supports, and let your card drivers downmix it to 4.1.
Oh and DTS > Dolby, it's a higher bitrate, and usually more well engineered, format
This http://www.ubernet.org/index.php?p=UberGuide is the best tutorial ever :) Though, if you do want to go lossless (flac), then only a few changes are needed to make with this tutorial
I heard the Revolution 5.1 actually had better DAC than the 7.1, I can see by the hardware specs that it does have a bit better SNR than the 7.1 (107dB vs. 109dB), but no one really mentions the 5.1. Does anyone know if the 5.1 would be a better buy in terms of sound quality than the 7.1?
Not counting drivers, or the OS, or all that, it's usually in this order:
Nod32 or AVG Free
Mozilla Firefox
Visual Styles (StyleXP)
Foobar2000 and needed components
ServU FTP
and much more including Nvidia DVD Decoder, Konfabulator, Trillian, etc..
I love foobar2k. Winamp 2.91 + ASIO, playing FLAC files is using about 10MBram/25%cpu, and foobar + kernel streaming, resampler slow mode, etc, playing FLAC files is at about 4MBram/10%cpu.
I'm hoping since Viewsonic's been re-releasing their vp models, that they'll do something about the 201b next, like keeping the IPS panel but bringing the time down to 8ms or 12ms, and contrast of at least 600:1, that's really all I'm hoping for now
When I raise my resolution up to 1600/1200 on my 1280 LCD the desktop just runs off the screen, and if I move my mouse toward the edge of the screen it scrolls over to the part that is cut off
I had the shaking for a while with versions of Firefox 1.0+, even when everything was on default after a fresh install, I don't know how it doesn't do it anymore, I'm on the latest version
I was wondering about this too, couldn't you be able to connect a DVI cable to an HD DVR receiver, and then attach a DVI cable going out to an LCD, and then be able to both use your computer normally, and watch HDTV, or would there be problems since the monitor is not directly connected to the...
Haha I know what you mean, AVG hasn't detected a single thing since I made the switch from Norton a few months ago, so it was starting to make me paranoid that it was missing something, so I just got a Nod32 trial a week ago to make sure, but still nothing :p Oh well, I guess it's a good thing
I think the quality improved, it may just be in my mind, I do think the bass sounds better now though. The only issues are a quiet hiss I hear very briefly during the bootscreen when I restart my computer. Also, right after installing the drivers I had to uncheck the "swap front and back...
1280x1024 @ 120Hz
GeForce 5700LE AGP (Trust me whenever I have the money it's the next thing I'm upgrading, gotta get a 6600GT for dual LCD's)
Viewsonic VP171b-2's native resolution
*yawn*, I wish I had two Viewsonic 201b's, I'd love 1600x1200
