I wish [H] would get involved and report on it. Maybe Dell would stop sending out the ungrounded bricks then. There are 13 pages on the problem at notebook forums. Dell still is 'looking' at the problem it seems.
The Best Buy ad in the paper today has the PNY Verto GeForce 7900 GS 256MB PCI Express Graphics Card for $149.99 after $50 instant rebate. Online link
I'm still in the dark ages with a 6600GT so I guess its upgrade time. :)
Haven't looked through the whole thread so sorry if its been posted.
Heard about this place on the radio yesterday. http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/ Easy to browse. 51" HDTV for $699 at BB is tempting.
No, I mean if you call them and say you want to order using Dell credit if you can get a 25% off coupon you heard about, they MAY give you a deal to make a sell.
I can get 25% off using Dell credit because of the coupon they sent me in the mail. I'm not sure anyone can without a coupon. If you call them up and tell them you want to use Dell credit they may give you the 25%.
I can get one for $561. Worth it? Anyone have one and how is it? I've read about some banding issues that were supposed to be fixed in the new revisions.
What video card would be the best to use with it? $midrange$
They have XPS M2010 in the outlet now. Love to have one but to rich for my blood.

I nuked my 1705 last night and reinstalled the OS. I only had to download 51 updates.
And thank goodness for Dell's driver CD. A simple one-click solution for installing the drivers. Otherwise I would have been totally lost trying to figure out the yellow icons with generic names...
Bless the UPS man. At almost 8pm he decided to drop back by with my E1705. If I was gay I would have slipped him some tongue.
It's supposed to be a scratch and dent but I see nothing wrong so far. Not a scratch or stuck pixel. This thing is beautiful.
The only thing I will have to get...
What is the deal with Dell and their tracking numbers?! My tracking page still shows it is in transit to the local carrier and when I got home UPS had already tried to deliver it.
A tracking number is generated as soon as a package is picked up by the carrier. Why does Dell say it takes 1-3...
Couldn't it still leave a lot of useless .dll's and registry entries?
I'm waiting on mine to be delivered, actually the 1st attempt was today, I have an old copy (legit) of XP Home I was going to install. That shouldn't be a problem with Dell should it? Even if the laptop comes with the media...
The HP doesn't sound that bad to me. I'd just do some research on it first and see how it, and especially the video card, is for playing BF2 or gaming in general.
I think that might be a problem though because "This offer can not be combinable with other dollars off, percentage off or mail-in rebate offers."
It seems like all their laptops have dollars or percentages off already lately.
You could also think about getting a Dell and applying for their credit.
You can apply first without buying a system to see if you get approved and at what interest rate. If I can get approved for $1500 with my credit as pitiful as it is, you may too and I think you might find a better system...
Yeah that's definitely at the top of my list. This thing is loaded with crap. I don't understand why companies can't just offer this stuff on CD's instead of bloating the system.
lol .. already shows a ship date of today and delivery Wed.-Friday. Guess I'll soon see if it was worth it.
I've just been reading about a lot of the Go 7800's had heat issues. *crosses fingers*
Yeah that's what I would have liked to get, but never could find one paired with a UXGA Display with TrueLife (in the outlet anyway) for less than $400 or $500 more.
How is the Go 7800 for gaming? Anyone know? I can't find any reviews on it.
I've been going back and forth for days and weeks, constantly on Dell's site looking at laptops.
I finally just bit the bullet. I hope I don't get burned. Here's the highlights;
Inspiron 9400/E1705 Notebook: Intel Core Duo Processor T2400 (1.83GHz/667MHz FSB)
1 GB DDR2 SDRAM 533MHz (2...

"The hardware contained within any of Dell's laptops with the i945PM or i945GM chipset will have physical support for the new processor. However, it will entirely depend on whether Dell decides to release a BIOS update that supports the Core 2 Duo microcode...

I'm not sure about the other laptops, but I was reading through the Dell forums this morning and Merom will work in the E1705. That is dependent though on a firmware update from Dell.

Of course you would probably want to upgrade a few things. Still a better deal than when they had it in the Days of Deals dealy.
As I'm looking through...
I'm looking to get a new laptop but my credit sucks. I decided last night 'what the hell' and applied for Dell credit and was amazed when they gave me $1500 to spend.
I was talking with someone who said Dell's credit was terrible. Payments sent in were applied late, people calling asking...
