Ok, I have the 4870 and a 4850 (got it cheaply). I'll keep the 4870 in the machine and wait for a good deal on a 4890 and then get rid of the 4870. Or should I go straight up to 5xxx? I'll also keep a lookout for a GTX card.

I'd try the freezer trick and then slap spinrite on a disk and give it a go. Btw. the freezer trick only helps with initializing the drive. The drive heat up pretty quickly after that.

It's hard to find something affordable if you're going to be backing up those large amounts of data. In the end if someone is overselling their product (like mozy) it's hard to feel safe with more than 20GB of data hosted for $5 a month.
