Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (FF7 Remake Part 2)

It just seems like there's _so much game left_.

They padded the fuck out of Midgar but there's an absolute shitload of story left to go through. I'm guessing this and part 3 are just going to be gigantic.
No telling, really, how long this or part 3 are going to be considering how much the story will now deviate from the original game.

Main story is supposed to be around 40 hours, "full completion" around 100 hours. 60 hours is a lot of side content, and I suppose that depends on how much of it is worth playing. If it is like typical open world games, probably 20-30 hours of decent side quests, and the rest being collecting stuff or hundreds of repetitive quests.

Information about hour length:

In fact, according to Hamaguchi, side content makes up about 80 percent of the exploration-based content, but even just focusing on the main storyline, players can still expect about 40 hours of gameplay. Meanwhile, those who do a good amount of side content should expect approximately a 60-hour playthrough, while the most dedicated sidequesters could top the 100-hour mark for their save file.

If there are 60 hours of side content, but you can do a "good amount" of it in 20 hours, I assume there is probably 20 or so hours of well done side quests that are of high quality. Leaving around 40 hours to filler stuff. Which can be annoying, finding good quests and separating them from junk quests can be a chore in some games. I hope they make it clear and easy to determine what is a good side quest and what is a fetch quests and collectible stuff.

I'm thinking it will be around 70 or so hours for the average person who isn't into "100% completion"

The devs have stated that this one will end at the Forgotten Capital. Going by the original that would leave all of disc 2 and the story parts of 3. However, they have stated that events have been shuffled around so it's possible that we could see some disc 2 stuff in Rebirth. It's also possible that they could cut out some D2 stuff in order to move the plot along quicker. We do know that we won't be visiting Wutai in Rebirth, that will instead happen in the next game. D2 is notably shorter than D1 as well, at least as far as the main plot goes.

This is wild because the game really starts getting bonkers after that.

For example:

I hope the weapon fights are as insane as I hope they are going to be.

The weapons are HUGE in cutscenes. Diamond weapon is practically the size of the Shinra building, it's massive.

They're smaller in the battles, I'm hoping they just have absurd fights in the remake and it's stupidly gigantic during it. I want to fight something where I'm the size of its toe.

You just got my imagination going about how the Ruby and Emerald Weapon battles would play out.

Coincidentally, I've been playing through the Microsoft Store version of FF7 for the achievements. Just finished with "disc 1."

I'm fully expecting large set piece battles like FF VII remake had for some of its bosses (ie: crab tank, scorpion robot). Maybe we'll even get some more FF XVI-ish action sequences.

Not sure if the MS Store version is supported, but if you can get the 7th Heaven mod working for it - it's great. I'm playing through the Steam version and even with the graphical mods installed, I still unlock achievements (if that's your thing).

As someone who never played ff7, should I start with the original to appreciate the remake more, or does it not really matter which I play first? I'm fine with either one's graphics.

I feel like I'd be better off playing the original first so I have a full story and could then see how the remake diverged from it.

Not mandatory by any means, but I'd recommend playing through the original first. There are certain story points in the remake that hit harder if you've played the original.

lol ok

"each character interacts with the world in their own way... Barret shoots objects."

Wow brilliant, how interesting and unique - especially when they say 2 seconds later Tifa gets a god damn grappling hook.

edit: I'm pretty sure this game has side content diarrhea and 80% of it will be terrible - it's like they shoehorned shit in just to meet a quota rather than it actually being interesting. Somehow, they've made the story even more convoluted.

At least we got this tho

Also Cid has no cigarettes and doesn't swear even once character literally ruined

Yep. Just like the first game when it came to side quest but even more! The padding is still there from what I played of the demo. You got hurt so you slowly drag yourself around for 10 mins!

I don’t know if my brain will let me skip the side quests but that was by far the worst part of the first one.

Town 1: Find lost kittens
Town 2: Find lost orphans
Town 2 return: Find lost orphans… again!

I think the second time finding lost orphans is where I almost gave up on the game.

Yeah, Gold Saucer is in this one, so I can just imagine all the pointless mini games they made for that segment. If I have to do something like the rollercoaster shooting game from the original to get unique items I'll metaphorically start flipping every table I see.

did you not watch either of the above videos? the mini games were a braggin point....

I love all the mini-games personally. Having them come back is a big bonus for me.

I remember really enjoying the mini-games in the original FF VII, but that was more because they were so novel (at the time). Replaying the OG today, and those mini-games are pretty dreadful.

With that said, I enjoyed the piano mini-game more than I thought I would (haven't completed the Rebirth demo, so am unsure if there's more mini-games included). The footage I saw of the Chocobo racing seemed a lot more involved.

Yeah, like most of FF7, the mini-games in the original have not aged well. They just don’t feel a good. Remakes of them with better controls and all that will hopefully bring back that same fun feeling as we had back when they were new.

They did a pretty good job with the bike stuff in Remake so it leaves me hopeful that they’ll do the Golden Saucer justice here too, but we’ll see. I’m really looking forward to the card game.

I’m terrible at rhythm/song games but I too found myself enjoying the piano bit. Not sure if it’s something I’ll do much of in the full game, but at least it’s done well regardless.

like the marching one they kept showing off? press this button, take a step. press this button shoulder your gun etc etc etc... lame.

It looks like they added a lot more to it. What they showed off during the latest presentation looks like they took the rhythm mini-game from the Honey Bee Inn in Remake and applied that to the marching bit. Should make it a lot more interesting.

If they cut any of these things out they would be crucified by fans. The march, the Golden Saucer, all the other random mini-games and distractions from the original are highly demanded things for the remakes. They have to include them and have to find ways to make them work. Whatever your opinion of them is these days, they were core parts of the FF7 experience.

The first game was just absurd with the amount of bullshit.

The core story beats of remake are mostly good, the boss fights rock, but I swear _everything_ was designed to drag, down to the fucking dialogue when you hear a character do that stupid god damn groan/grunt thing every other sentence.

Remake probably could have just straight up been half the runtime or less and literally nothing of value would be lost at all. Why does saying "Aeris helped Marlene" need to be a 15 minute section of gameplay, complete with a part where you have to WALK while everyone's running for their lives?

Like when the sky is literally going to fall and there's still barely any urgency, the pacing is shit.

Getting the Gold Chocobo was a PITA
Defeating Ruby Weapon for the Desert Rose was a lot easier than going through breeding, in my opinion, if you know about using Dazers against it and starting the battle with 2 party members dead.

but why? dont get the point of that. unless theres something in it to carry over to the full game...

This is likely the same stuff they’ve been showing off in gameplay demonstrations and had content creators and the press play last month. So if anything was made specifically for that demonstration it would be included in this. It’s also possible that it’s just stuff pulled from later in the game and included here in order to show off mechanics and items that won’t be introduced until much later.

Reviews seem to be about what I expected.

It's good but overstuffed with fillery bullshit.

no thread in the console section? also, judging a pre-release version, take it with a grain of salt...

Graphically it looks similar to Remake. Which looked quite nice in some areas, though it had a number of low resolution assets throughout. They stood out a fair bit, like the sky box, some trash heaps and other things. Looks like that will be an issue in this game as well. Was hoping since it was a PS5 game it would have been improved. Doubt the PC version will see enhanced assets either.

Enhanced assets, you say?

What if FF7 remake took so long to come to fruition because we had to wait for engine technology to catch up so we could adequately render Tifa's knockers and the required number of belts on main characters
Physics engine took years to perfect I'd imagine

Square Enix‘s Naoki Hamaguchi has dropped a hint about the release date window for Final Fantasy 7 remake Part 3...the third installment, which has yet to be titled, might be out by early 2028 as it seems to be following the same trajectory as FF7: Rebirth

I just realized that nothing transfers over from the first game, you only get two materia if you have saves from Remake and Intergrade. I’m glad I didn’t grind out materia levels in remake expecting them to give a head start in Rebirth.

what are you basing that on?
