Destiny 2

I've hit another wall where I'm getting bored with the game. I think I might take a break for a bit if I don't enjoy myself this week. Even with all the new content I feel like I'm doing chores again.

Honestly, the new stuff feels like chores.

Unlocking the gofannon forge on all three characters is tiresome, I agree. Still though, I'm having fun. I enjoy the forge modes and finding new strategies to fighting the bosses.

Not to mention all the secrets they're hiding in them! The guys on raidsecrets are literally soving ciphers. This is so damn cool!

Grinding for gear is pretty tiresome. I finally stepped into strikes yesterday and gambit today. That was a nice change of pace. 543 LL on my titan now.

I'm at 554 or something like that. Once you get above about 532 I think the only way to get gear is prime and exotic engrams. All the purple gear that drops will be worse than what you have and is only worth walking over and picking up so that you can break it down and use those resources for something else like infusing what you get into something that looks good so you aren't stuck wearing the god awful tangled web and prodigal sets that drop endlessly.

I'm at 585 and I can still see that it's going to take me quite some time to somehow to get 615 to get that foundry off the ground. I went in there again yesterday for laughs and it's a complete joke. Non-viable.

You want Powerful Gear not Legendary Gear with whatever you do. Focus on that.

I know they have the forum web match making and all but I still say this as a somewhat minor grip (and a broken record): The same matchmaking that gets done for strikes, gambit, and crucible really should be an option for any and all game modes without exception. I'm still not sure why that's somehow rocket science. It's kind of lame at this point considering how much work and effort has put into this and how much it has evolved since it came out.

I shouldn't still be seeing beta on guided options, either.

Whoa, hang on. The MAIN source higher power level gear is purple gear you get from completing the daily/weekly powerful reward challenges on your map. Primes and occasional exotics are just an additional bump on top but to really gain power level's, you have to focus on the activities that specifically note "Powerful Gear" as a reward.

Each character each week I start with the Flashpoint planet, then Vanguard Weekly/Dailys (Heroic story missions, Strikes, Nightfalls), Gambit Daily/Weekly, Crucible, then on to the highest potential powerful rewards, Petra's Weekly Bounties in the Dreaming City.

This is something I wish Bungie made more clear, to be honest.

Regarding Primes though, good news in the TWAB last week for those under 600.

For some of you the enemies guarding the Lost Forges are immune to your weapons. We promised more details for players who are still working their way up to 600 and beyond. Here is what we have planned to help you move more quickly up to 600.
  • Prime engrams will now drop more frequently and with larger power bumps for players under 600 Power
This change is planned to land in the 2.1.2 update on December 11. We are also considering additional changes to assist with the Power climb in a future update. We will continue to monitor your feedback on Season of the Forge as it continues.

Actually, I am aware of this. The powerful gear differentiation vs. legendary was known to me. Essentially though, that's just the same stuff granted by prime engrams, albeit directly. Or am I missing something?

Yeah, you really only want to focus on powerful gear once you hit a wall with your level.
You can get those via playing a strike, gambit match, crucible match, public events on the weekly planet, legendary mission on the weekly planet, hidden sector mission on the Tangled Shore, Spider's assassination (the last one on his list), 20 mini-missions, or completing Nightfall or a Raid. There are also the clan points for doing specific things in the vs. modes.
You can also grind out 3 gambit matches, 5 crucible matches, or luck into 3 strikes with players using different powers. That last one might as well not even be a thing.
Random prime engrams and exotic drops are "powerful" too.
There are lots of options available, but they do get old after a while. Having played since day 1, I'm burned out on most of those things.

This is exactly what I did this past week and I'm finally powerful enough that it was the first time I was able to finally do both of Petra's weekly bounties. I couldn't believe it.

I still need to do that "find Toland" and there apparently is some new quest in Dreaming City for some new exotic bow and arrow or some other weapon? Am I remembering that right? Not sure how to initiate that.

Finding toland is just a daily bounty from Petra. He's a floating ball of light inside the Ascendant Challenge that week and he's always in a different spot. I find it helpful to clear the challenge first, then before leaving, search around for him without being shot at.

The Wishender bow.. oof. That's part of the Shattered Throne dungeon that's a massive pain in the ass. Read up on that's, it's an undertaking, especially without a fireteam.

It's also only available during full curse week which just ended.

Eh, it's slightly different. For one, Prime and Exotic engrams provide a larger power increase than a Powerful gear reward. I want to say powerfuls are like 1-4 levels higher than your current max level and primes are 6+. Secondly, the powerful rewards have item pools linked to the activity they came from. For example, you'll get Gambit weapons and armor from your powerful reward after doing your weekly matches.

Basically, it boils down to just do as many powerful rewards as you can during the week. Turn in prime and exotic engrams as soon as you get them because they will increase your max light for your next powerful. Remember, the level of gear that drops only depends on items you have in your inventory, not just equipped. Even if something that is terrible drops, but it's at a higher level than your current gear, just keep in in your inventory anyway.

Edit: it's actually a little more complicated than that because all powerful rewards aren't equal, but I won't get into that unless you want me to lol.

lol shades of the division where you needed high level gear to do high level content but only that high level content awarded the proper high level gear

Plenty of opportunities for powerful gear at or below your level. Most all the daily / weekly challenges for example.

There's also a bit of a snowball effect in that the higher your level, the more opportunities you have to increase it throughout the week. Once you hit the mid 500s, you will be able to do the Dreaming City stuff on top of everything else you've been doing. A bit higher than that and you can finish the whole raid. A little over 600 adds the Forges. Definitely no shortage of things to do to get your gear up.

Just curious - do you really only have to keep higher level stuff in your inventory or does it need to be equipped? Could be coincidence, but I swear if I don't equip that stuff my next "powerful" drops tend to be the same level I'm currently at.

Inventory is all that matters. The game keeps track of whatever your max level is with the highest gear you could equip and bases drops off that.

Evidently, this is being addressed in the latest patch for characters under 550 light level.

Still enjoying the game but yeah I'm getting worn down from the grind again. It's weird because I was kinda stoked about this content dropping but the light level being raised kinda put me back on the spot. To be fair the climb isn't as bad. I believe my highest light drop is already 613 after slacking on things for most of the week.

I guess it just feels like I'm back to not doing end game content after kind of just hitting the light limit.

I didnt get in to Destiny until they gave it away for free, it is a fun game but it has a bit of a learning curve. Most of the stuff you should be doing isnt very intuitive. I played a free trial before and hated it because of that. Once you figure things out it isnt so bad, but the game could benefit from a little more guidance/info on how to progress.

100%.

This issue absolutely turns people away who otherwise might enjoy it.

Not sure why they got rid of it, but they used to show all of your currently available quests as well as all of the "powerful gear" quests via a menu on the main map. I think they stopped doing that with either Forsaken or the Mars expansion.
That was at least something to easily point to for newer players.

Holy shit.. have you guys played Mayhem? I don't even know how to describe this.. Its so crazy!

I'm going to try it tonight, but I'm afraid of hunters with galanors being able to do nothing but spam blade barrage lol.

Pretty much spot on. Only piece of exotic hunter armor I'm missing is shards >(

Man, no shortage of powerful drops. First character of the week started the night at 620. 630 now and didn't complete Dreaming City.

Hand Cannon from the Gofannon forge bangs with Surrounded and Rampage.

How the fuck? I've struggled to get past 550. I've gotten tons of "powerful gear" drops which are nothing of the sort.

640 Guardian here. Half the milestones completed for this week on a single character. Fair shot of getting max level on the last char of the week.

This dlc is bad, really bad...

In short, far more play time than is really healthy. I may have gotten lucky and 3-4 of these drops were +10 to +14 higher than what I had in that slot previously. Here is the process for my first character on reset day:

I load it and hit the tower to grab bounties (Zavala, Shaxx, Drifter, Hawthorne, Ada-1 and now Eva). Did Daily/Weekly Crucible with a clanmate which went quick playing Mayhem (HILARIOUS game mode btw). Powerful Drop #1. Next, to the EDZ for the Flashpoint (while also working on my Black Armory Auto Rifle frame) and knocked that out with the Heroic Adventure. Powerful Drop #2. On to 3x Strikes. Powerful Drop #3. Ran through the Ice and Shadow Heroic Story Mission 3x at ~2:30 each for Powerful Drop #4 (gotta look up what the shortest missions are to just get them done). At this point I had a Prime so we'll call that Powerful Drop #5.

I had enough resources at this point to make the 6x recipes for Eva which was Powerful Drop #6. I think also around this time, since I had some saved up from last week, my 20x bounties were complete so I went to Ikora for Powerful Drop #7.

We grabbed another clan mate and ran Inverted Spire Nightfall on easy mode just for the completion for Powerful Drop #10. Adjusted our modifiers and went again for the 100K+ completion for Powerful Drop #11. Active-ish clan so now our Hawthorns clan engrams were up for Crucible and Nightfalls Powerful Drops #8 & 9.

3x rounds of Gambit for Powerful Drop #12. I think I got another Prime somewhere in there. Powerful Drop #13.

Our Black Armory Auto Rifle frames were complete so we ran the Vulundr Forge for the gun which was Powerful Drop #14 and again for the bounty for 2x forge runs. We had a Ballistics Log now so we grabbed the Frame for the new Hand Cannon and hit the Dreaming City. It was late so we completed 4 of her Daily Bounties while also completing the steps for the Handcannon Frame which needed Hive kills. Luckily, the DC has tons of Hive this week! We got to a point where we decided we might as well get the Hand Cannon so we ran Gofannon Forge for Powerful Drop #15. There was also another Prime in there so Powerful Drop #16.

The KEY now, is to move these high level weapons over to my next character and start again.

What DLC? Black Armory is a fraction of a 9 month content drop cycle which Bungie made abundantly clear was not a traditional DLC. Through the ViDocs and other means, they explained in detail how they're shifting away from that and focusing purely on a slower drip of End Game content.

If you want to still think of it as a DLC, you've seen 1 week of a 9 month long DLC release.

There WERE items, like the Horror Story, that dropped at 600 regardless of your LL. That weapon really helped me break through a LL barrier I had reached.

Mayhem is a true LOL blast. Even if you're losing.

I was reading something about trying the Antaeus Wards exotic titan legs where you can reflect anything if you slide. Supposedly this is incredible against blade barrages in Mayhem.

I have them. It's fun and great when it works. There's still various bugs with them that make it really inconsistent in when you reflect and when you don't. The visual buff you get (the one on the lower left hand of your screen) actually isn't indicative of the active reflect period. It's something like 0.5s active?

It's really hilarious to use them on people that haven't ever seen them before. Since I don't have OEM I usually have them on just for the lulz effect. Reflected a few supers back and even wardcliff and 1kv (you still die but you kill the person that fired it at you and anyone nearby which led to a hilarious whisper of "how tf" from said enemy)
