Sequel Middle Earth: Shadow of War Confirmed

you had to do some side quests and stuff perhaps to level up a bit if the content was too difficult. By the end of the game you felt like a demi-God and were way more powerful than your opponents -- at least that's where my char ended. I died an awful lot at the beginning too -- the sense of power and progression in the game - as you acquired additional passive and active skills was epic. I was able to kill all the end bosses quite easily, even in bunches by end game. It's actually enjoyable to become overpowered by end game and just destroy enemies that were difficult before.

Hmm interesting. Ya I think I only did very few sidequests, and I didn't know I needed those to upgrade my skill set.

I see with this new Shadow of War, they give you the ability to change difficulties. So that sounds encouraging. I don't like challenging games, I prefer to play on easy and enjoy it.

I understand the premise of delays but it doesn't make me happy that I have to wait 2 more months.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War, which had been slated for release in August, has been pushed back to October 10, developer Monolith Productions announced today. Specific reasons for the delay weren't provided, but the short version is that Shadow of War "expands gameplay in every dimension" over its predecessor, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, and it's taking a little longer than expected to get everything right.

"As with Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Monolith is committed to delivering the highest quality experience. In order to do this, we have made the difficult decision to move our launch date to ensure that Middle-earth: Shadow of War will deliver on that promise," the studio wrote on its forums. "We understand that it might be disappointing to have to wait a little longer for the release and are sorry for the delay, but we are working hard to make an amazing game."

The new date applies to North America and Europe, but Monolith warned that other territories, including Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, will have a different release date.

We got to spend some quality time with Shadow of War's "spider mercs and singing uruks" earlier this month, and it sounds like a promising follow-up to the excellent original: "By drawing out relationships with foes and friends over the course of dozens of battles and chance encounters, Shadow of War could become the ultimate fantasy soap opera," as James put it. Read the whole thing here.

3560x1440 Wallpaper I created from the trailer, which looks a lot better than the image that's posted.

Well that sucks, I was looking forward to it in Aug. But not surprised either, just another AAA title getting delayed.

Fine.

I'm tired of seeing games get rushed out even when the devs argue with the publishers not to do it. ( like ME:A)

This is a "good delay." QC/QA. Plenty of other good games to play and forthcoming.

Anyone else watch the tech demo from WB live stream last night at E3 ? This games looks just as bit as good as the first. They did it right. The fighting looks just as good and they BEEFED up the scale and the game just looks great. Anyone else as hyped about this one as me??!! CAN'T WAIT!

I'm stoked. I'm right there with you. Bring it on!

A new update to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor lets the player's greatest nemesis live on in upcoming sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War, it has been announced...a free update available to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam players, called Nemesis Forge, lets the game automatically detect a player's highest ranked orc nemesis and then bring that individual over to Shadow of War once it launches this October...Nemesis Forge will also import each player's most loyal orc follower...

Yea i saw this today too! I guess i will have to re-install Shadow of Mordor and Start killing orcs again and get a powerful Orc as a buddy for the next game.

I love (and still play) SoM...I've been anxiously waiting for this sequel since the day it was announced! Will likely be a game that gets a rare exception to my personal "no pre-order" rule.

There's some news about the game needing always on internet connection for single player. There is currently confusion if it's just for the microtransactions WB has added or for the whole game.

This whole always-online and micro-transactions business is not making me feel confident about this game.

Rather, I'm pretty sure the gameplay will be good like it was with SoM, but I don't know that I want to support these shenanigans with my money.

Yea, I'm not even considering the game now after seeing that, pretty sure progression will be artificially slowed down to incentivize micro-transactions. Not supporting that.

I hope it's not this bad. A little concerned here. Hope we get more info soon.

If the game is P2W, I'm cancelling my preorder right quick... Always On doesn't bother me as much but microtransaction purchases required to beat a game will bury it deep from day 1.

I'm not that concerned about "P2W" as that term seems to apply more to MP games. I am concerned about what Lmah2x brought up, in that progression in SP might be stunted/grindy to encourage micro-transactions.

FAQ posted on the thread that was referenced through reddit

Introducing the Market

FAQ's: (all answers taken from @MonolithJared's posts in this thread)

Q:Can you play the game without using the market?

A:Yes the game is balanced so you can play the game without using it, it is purely optional.

Q:How much do gold warchests cost?

A:That has yet to be decided.

Q:Can you use warchests in more then one playthrough?

A:Yes if you store them in the garrison but that is only if they are unopened otherwise they are one time use items.

Q:Will the market require an internet connection?

A:Yes you cannot access it without one, the game will work offline only the market is affected

Q:What level Orcs and gear will you receive?

A:The level will depend on your level, you will get Orcs and gear that equate roughly to your level.

Q:Can you get Training Orders outside of warchests?

A:No they can only be found in chests but Orcs will spawn in game with the potential abilities found in Training Orders.

^^ I don't have a problem with all of that at face value.

Here's what I continue to have concerns about and this has been for several years:

I'm still bothered by this continued trend and encroachment. We all know someone is going to cross the line some day on that "optional" and that's going to be it.

We all bitch and complain and most if not all of us keep buying these games in droves anyways.

Honestly I hope this kills their sales so other publishers won't even consider this. I could see this model being a way to release a game as free to play. But not a full priced AAA title which already has a strange expansion model with Silver and Gold tiers rather than a season pass.

This shouldn't affect the game much. The fact that it's "online only always" could annoy some people. When D3 came out I thought it was going to tank between that and the marketplace, but alas, here it stands running quite well many years later.

As far as P2W, I agree with above poster t hat it won't affect a single player game. In fact, I don't see a lot of money being spent by MOST people on P2W type items in an SP game -- people MOSTLY spend money in MP games to get ahead of the curve, keep up, show their epeen status, in single player games none of this is possible so who gives a crap?

So couple the DRM with microtransactions and preorder bonuses and the amount i'm willing to pay for this game is $40 CAD if it comes to Linux and $10 CAD if it doesn't after a minimum of 6 months.

From the FAQ, SP mode can be totally offline. Overall, I'm concerned that my pre-purchase will help them continue with this ethically bankrupt model. I'm really close to cancelling & buying other possibly great games that will be out in October or that have been released.

Edit: I requested a refund from Bundle Stars since I can't move forward with good conscience that WB will respect me as a paying customer for a complete & untainted single player game.

It's a shame, really. Shadows of Mordor was such a good game that was hurt by WB's marketing, and now WB goes and fucks it up even more this time around.

There is NO way that progression isn't stunted in this game to support the microtransactions. I'm completely turned off to this game at this point in time. WAY too many games in my library that need some TLC to worry about a sequel to a game.

I wound up purchasing Nier Automata & Prey (2017) instead since there are plenty of other games that I'll enjoy w/o microtransactions dirtying the waters of a single player experience.

While I disagree with the ethics of micro-transactions in games (especially single player), after watching the dev video of the implementation in SoW, it doesn't appear as bad as what people are anticipating.

Definitely won't be buying until some decent reviews outline what the loot balancing is like.

Hopefully it's not another cluster F like Diablo 3 was on release due to the auction house.

Looks good to me. I'm still getting this.

It looks like it didn't reinvent the wheel but it's a more fully realized version of what we saw in part 1. Good enough for me.

Yup I'm still getting it. It doesn't bother me with the microtransactions.

For those that are interested, GMG has the standard edition for $38 (via discount + code 15SOW).
