The formula thing. I did some looking around lastnight after posting. Seems to be a year long pentathlon basically. Seems we are in 2nd.

After the Penta, how can I help us get 1st?

Ill be shutting down most of my rigs this summer.

Yes... Formula-BOINC is a year long challenge that incorporated most stable BOINC-only projects. It has its flaws and is pretty much maintained by the same person that hosts WUProp. The sprints were new for this year and has added a whole different element to it. We haven't really made it a priority in the past much, but since so many of us had bounced around with various challenges anyways, we have been able to accomplish various levels of success.

The sprints are announced 24 hours before they start, but luckily those dates are set in stone. You just run the project announced and earn as many points as you can during the challenge dates. Each sprint is only 3 days, so yes some projects may be hard to get validated during that time unless you were lucky enough to already be running them like we did with the WCG challenge. The sprints are each worth the same amount of points as a single project for a Marathon. So, they are certainly more important that Marathon points. When a project closes its doors, the points (for the Marathon) essentially get locked in place for the rest of the year. Which to me is a flaw of the system.

I think it becomes hugely beneficial to rank at least 3rd place in as many projects as possible.

Which projects are GPU capable? Soon as I'm done with E@H ill focus on it.

Asteroids
BURP (which doesn't always have work)
Collatz Conjecture (which probably pays the most points in BOINC)
Einstein
Gerasim (Intel only when they have work)
GPUGrid
Milkyway (needs double precision)
Moo! Wrapper
PrimeGrid (GFN work needs double Precision)
SETI@home

But those are just the ones that are part of Formula-BOINC currently.

Moo! Wrapper has GPU? Isn't their a sprint coming up for that? When does it end?

All sprints at FB are 3 days. Post 7 has the dates and I update it as they are announced.

I seen the dates on their web site. They have them listed in the sprints column.

I think I can single handily take the #1 spot for the Moo! Wrapper sprint currently going on. We're already in 5th place with 12,288 points that I contributed an hour or so ago and first place is currently sitting at 39,320 points. I'll have them surpassed before I wake up in the morning.

[H]orde like a boss!

We need to get gold on all the sprints from here on out. Because we're [H]ard.

Ahem, we are in League 3, but it is still GOLD!

Yeah, so no reason not to dominate it. Well show them for putting us in the wrong league.

Well, when Grandpa was helping us with BOINC, we hit gold in League 2 before there were Sprints. We were then bumped to League 1 and lost his support. So, it is certainly a rollercoaster around here... lol

After the marathon I figured I'd put the work PCs on WCG and give my AC at home a break heh. Is there anything I need to do to contribute to this, other than be on the [H] team for the project itself?

Ill see where we need CPU power when I get home. We are in 1st in WCG right now by a few million points.

You just need to be on our team and your results will count. No registration for the challenges on your part other than being on the team.

You can keep them on LHC since you should already be familiar with that project.

We're in 2nd by a long margin.

1st - 14827933
2nd - 4486338

Problems with not receiving WU's and such should go away once the pentathlon is over.

We have a 13 million point 1st place lead on WCG right now.

No problem at all, moving resources to another project is fine as well, wherever you can use the tiny bit of horsepower I can provide with the office PCs heh. Checked on my co-workers machine today and it has no LHC WU's so I fired cosmology back up in the meantime.

EDIT: I was looking at the formula page, would it be better if I put them on some of the obscure marathon's that we have no points in?

Anything you think you want to try or help with is fine. Just keep notice of the Sprints as they are worth a lot for only 3 days of work.

Jumped on Asteroids@H, Climateprediction, and Universe@H, since we have 0 points in them heh. Got no WU for climateprediction tho, but the other 2 have begun chooching

I'm gonna see what I can do if I focus most of my farm on SETI@Home. Our team does ~120k PPD and the top teams are doing well over 500k PPD. If I can't top that alone then I'll probably switch to something else after I earn a few more positions. We're currently 10th.

Skillz, SETI@home is a low scoring project, uses CreditNew (appropriately nicknamed CreditRandom) and goes down on Tuesdays for maintenance. Work units can sit waiting for a wingman at times for months, so don't get caught up on a few hanging around for a while. Also, check out our SETI thread as there is a link for downloading a program that installs optimized apps. Many of the optimizations end up in SETI units eventually, but I haven't kept up on it.

RgMekanic, ClimatePrediction has a lot of issues. So, check out their forums for updates and current status of things. Also, if it takes a while for them to update stats, don't be surprised.

I'm going back to crunch Einstein@Home to help the team achieve #1 and snatch the 25 points. We are now at 4th position.

Here is the crawl chart of where we are now and where we hope to be in the near future. I'm comparing us and the three teams ahead of us.

As far as GPU goes, we could also use help at SETI, Asteroids, and Moo!. Soon I will be issuing a stress test challenge for Amicable Numbers for DC-Vault inclusion. Stay posted. :)

My boxen are slowly transiting to SETI as they complete the remaining Cosmology work units.

I am also moving the GPUs over to Moo! Wrapper, but their are still a lot of E@H work units left to be done.

On their home page

Join Collatz Conjecture

And I would put CPU elsewhere since SETI can use GPU's. Leave it for when you are bored with other GPU projects...lol

I've got SETI running on GPUs also. All my boxen are being switched over full force to SETI. I want to see what the maximum output I can generate with everything focusing on it at once. We are 53,191,316 points behind first place on SETI with them producing over 400k points per day compared to our ~70k points per day. I'm with the understanding that it's a low point system. So far I'm only at ~8k points since I signed up yesterday, but most of my boxen aren't even crunching it and none of them are running the projects 100%.

If I can close that gap in a few weeks then I will keep them going if not then I'll move the CPUs to something else.

Cool...due to how long it can take some work units to verify you may not get full production RAC for a while. Keep in mind that Tuesdays IIRC are down for server maintenance. So, keep a 2 day cache

Thanks for the heads up. I keep as manu work units as they'll let me have for all my boxen.

I'm a bit confused on the Formula BOINC strategy. The only team ahead of us in overall score is not even in the top 10 list for SETI. Maybe focus on TN-Grid instead? This project is about studying the gene of plants and single organism of some sort. If this is your personal goal, that's fine. Still will benefit any projects. Just checking....:p
