I've betrayed my country

The silence from AMD on CFX issues is not taking care of the customer. As for SLI I do not know. A simple chart showing what games especially newer ones and about what % increase going with CFX would be self promoting and give folks a heads up. Instead of buying a game and being utterly frustrated with the experience (Bad for AMD) they would either hold off until fixed or play it single card knowing it is not a supported CFX game. This will also prompt developers to improve CFX support as well. AMD is just not being smart with their driver releases.

This is what baffles me the most about AMD. XDMA CFX is superior tech to SLI. One would think they would really emphasize CFX work in the drivers. They are just leaving money and bragging rights with the enthusiast crowd on the table.

i think all of this is bs from nvidia fanboys/crappy reviewers... second nano incoming!:D

Ah, the wonders of guerrilla marketing. This is the AMD forum, and we're talking about 960's performance. 0 threads about AMD cards in the Nvidia forum...

Agree, they should really promote CFX more.

I'm still genuinely curious about the problems OP had.

Im with you on this....Sounds like it was PBCaK for the most part:D

He has an entire thread about his issues. See This Thread

I am also contemplating an upgrade for Fallout 4. My current card listed in my specs was won at the TexasGamExperience in Deep Ellum on June 2011 so it definitely time to upgrade as it does not meet the minimum spec for Fallout 4. Since I game @ 1080P and my budget is around $200.00, I am looking hard at the R9 380 4GB & the GTX 960 4GB. Right now the R9 380 is in the lead but I am waiting for actual game play reviews to come out before making a final choice. Been an ATI/AMD customer for years except for a pair 8800 GTS cards in SLI a while back, and yes I do remember S3's really bad drivers   Boy I sure miss Glide & my VooDoo cards.:D

Hopefully Kyle & the crew have a game play review for Fallout 4 in the works.

We can't post there they will tell us our drivers are shit then we cry our eyes out and crawl up in a corner of our house for several hours , they are mean !!

Some of them will post that were worthless because they have 82% of the market we should not even complain about stupid things like GameWorks ...
And people still don't wonder why you need GameWorks if you have such a large market segment ...

I want to see proof of OP purchase and op ownership of 380.

Also, you should have bought an R9 290x used or R9 390. Why get a 380 which was a reworked 7970 ( I think) ?

It is difficult to prove whose drivers are better since we tend to reach conclusions based on our own limited experiences. This poll I did a few years back says most folks around here have done better with Nvidia. Neither has perfect software though.

The poll was consistent with my experiences in the following games: Red Faction Guerrilla, Sega Rally Revo, and Split/Second. They all gave framerate drops that made the games unplayable for me. When I switched to Nvidia the problems went away.

I have had problems with GeForce experience recently. Also, I could not get Watch Dogs to run without stuttering on my GTX 780. I didn't test it on a Radeon to see if it was a driver issue or a poorly coded console port.

watch dogs won't be able to run smooth with an i5 at stock speed. only way I found as per proper experience and with friends experiences is that you need a 4c/8t i7 at least at 4.5ghz to run it properly, Even if I have actually enjoyed the game and I like it, the game its just crap ported to pc.

The sad part has nothing to do with AvN, but you really has gone from buying top the line to buying budget card... That's the sad part.

since when the R9 380 is top of the line card? both cards are mid range cards at similar prices...

The 280x i used until 2 weeks ago was my favorite card i've ever owned. Overclocked like a beast, looked great. Upgraded to a 980 ti because i now use linux fulltime and amd drivers are awful. If they ever get their act together on the software side I'd go back in an instant.

TNT2
Geforce 2 GTS
Geforce 4 ti 4200
9800 Pro

9800 pro cost more than 380/960 without adjust for inflation, if you do, it cost more than double.

Reason for 380 instead of 390 was primarily due to restricted case dimensions.

http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mid-tower/centurion-590/

Yeah, it's an old case.

Purchased in late Nov. '09.

EDIT: Also just wanted to mention all the legacy bios / 960 issues are very real.

Solved with a simple CMOS battery swap though.

So yeah, ended up with the 960 after owning a 6950 2GB for 3+ years. Also doubled my RAM and gave the old i5 750 a super moderate overclock to 3.15 @ 1.25v, up from stock 2.66. So basically
all I did for force Turbo Boost speeds 24/7. *shrugs

So it would be worse then a 7970....aka R9 280x.

When both were initially released yes, the 280x (7970) performance was superior to that of the 285. However, with all the subsequent driver updates the 285 ended up performing better, so as a result 380 will too. We're not talking huge leaps and bounds though, they should still be close.

380 is better than a 7970.

they upped the clocks from the 285, added more memory, and the tess performance is about 40% better.

Every time I see people claim AMD drivers aren't bad I want to post about the problem I have with my crossfire setup. Do you know how annoying and frustrating it is to have a problem that you can 100% recreate very easily and yet for over 2 years now AMD won't do anything about it even though plenty of people have complained over the years. They won't even acknowledge us anymore.

I mean I literally have to choose between Vsync and Crappy crackled audio. Vsync is a must and so is good audio so why do I have to choose between both of them? Fuck amd drivers. I'm with you OP. I just ordered a G1 980TI and it will be here on friday. You AMD fans are free to take a look at my 290x's that I will list in the for sale thread in a few days. One of them comes with a kraken g10 H70 setup. =0

Actually your problem is not indicative of the whole and your posting has yet to take that in to account. You have a problem: fact, has no remedy: false. From what I read of your link only those running 2 monitors AND not in unison but 2 different instances have this issue. It can be remedied by only using the one monitor for the game or in eyefinity. So technically the ONLY driver issue is the sound when running 2 differing instances on 2 independent monitors. You should state that specific every time you wish to complain. But operates just peachy when run as a single monitor or eyefinity to make use of the second monitor. Sorry but to make the blanket statement you wish based on your limited field of experience with the issue and very small portion of the market is not a service to mankind or those in the market for GPUs outside of those that wish to run the same setup as you.

So again for those stating that single monitor drivers for AMD are solid, great, fine they are correct. But for those that wish to run 2 differing instances using 2 monitors with R9 GPUs then AMD is not a reliable solution for most and should be cautioned. These statements are true and adequate, without offense.

Proof... the only reason 300 series are better than 200 its because drivers. Now you need to seriously show me proof that the r9 380 is better than the 280X. Because I have both cards. And the 280X its a much more capable card than the 380..

i already did in my post:

380=295+addional GB of memory+higher clocks

with the additional tess performance of tonga, its pretty much a no brainier.

is it better than a 280X? dunno.

but its deff better than a 7970.

I'm confused as to what you are going on about. I and many others have a problem with AMD drivers working correctly with our setups. Point blank, everything you are talking about is beyond irrelevant and serves no purpose. You know people have two monitors for a reason? why should I have to turn my monitor off to get AMD drivers to work correctly? really? I'm not even going to bother going further with this. -_-

Because you got rekt. Lmao

Why switch camps now? I would wait until the next showdown, it might be a little more exciting than the last line of cards (from both companies) released.

I switched to Nvidia: I still get driver issues. Just now I do everything I can to blame my other hardware instead of blaming my Nvidia cards.

the 380 can not even fully utilize those 4GB of memory before suffer from processing bottleneck... sorry you are wrong this time.

If the 280X are certainly an exactly rebranded HD7970 GHZ edition, how can the 380 be faster than the 7970 but slower than the 280X? a mistery.. not due clocks I think the fastest out of the box 285 I think was the gigabyte OC at 973mhz, the fastest 380 I think the sapphire Nitro at 985mhz can 12mhz mean that much performance increase? with 7970ghz and 280X we are talking of cards with 1100 - 1150mhz out of the box.. lets see a heavy based tessellation non Nvidia related game.. Dragon Age Inquisition

1920.png

man that's a pretty big difference... great, 40% better tessellation performance did Nothing in a heavy tessellation based game. Taking those benchmark numbers, you think those 2 extra GB will make it suddenly be stronger and gain over 7FPS in average to make stronger than a vanilla 7970? or 13FPS than a 7970 GHZ edition or 14 over 280X? those 40% better tessellation can't really compensate the narrower 256bit bus and of course the less amount of Shaders and TMUs.

Yea, AMD drivers rekt my experience. Got a nice Gigabyte G1 980ti coming on friday. Can't wait! My gf will keep her 290 though. She's had a handful of driver problems too including black screen problem with her first 290. She's happy enough with it for now though. ;D

Blasphemer, everyone knows that Nvidia drivers are perfect they never fail they will fix any hardware problems / user errors known in existence in this universe!!!!! :)

Having more money means they have more resources to throw at things. Seems logical to me.

Sorry, the next "showdown" is not going to be pretty for AMD. Pascal is going to roll into town like a freight train.

AMD is done after Pascal.

Seriously you need to go read the driver releases for Nvidia on forums. They have quite a few issues as well. The past year has seen a number of problems for users. Chances are it is still a minority as is your case with AMD but doesn't mean either is better or worse.

You know what's funny people like you hate amd but multi corps love amd I wonder why, they don't install things that will mess with your drivers.

I betrayed my intelligence by coming back into this thread to see more of the same....

AMD is already done, it has no money or market share. Pascal is just going to dance on it's grave.
