Wolfenstein: The New Order

wtf already finished it.
What is it a 3 hour console port?
Sure miss FarCry when you played for hours and thought you were finished then find area 2 LOL

why are people saying Nvidia rules in this thread $300 280x is faster here than $700 780i
maybe they rule when they can sell less for a lot more

Just looking around:

One of the guys on NeoGaf who has the game and has beaten it:

"Just finished the game .....WOW........can't decide what game was worst fps this generation......Duke Nukem , Colonial Marines or Wolefenstein : New order.
And YES ...THAT BAD IS THIS GAME."

Apparently, a lot of the folks who have it and were posting impressions were really liking it in the first half. But they almost all say it falls completely off the rails in the second half and turns to shit.

That usually means they ran out of time and the publisher said to "just finish it".

It's really not hard to see when an incoming game will be shit these days, some do slip the radar, but this game is no exception - far from it.

I'll pick it up when it's $5 bucks or something, just to feed my curiosity.

I have been reading this thread trying to decide whether I want the game or not...something clicked and it got me searching. Later I stumbled across this in the deepest darkest of an upstairs closet. Pretty cool gaming archaeology find:D

mother of fuck.. ok, someone has to die for this, plain murder, snuff, c'mon, this is it, this is where we draw the line, its not funny anymore, what-the-fuck.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Really? 60FPS lock? REALLY?

Why in the fuck?

That alone makes me not want to purchase the game.

I have this also. I bought this from Frys in San Diego. I miss the days when a release included a cool case and goodies. :(
My tin has always resided in the same drawer. This is never leaving ma sight!
My other cool accessory included with a game release is my Max Payne 1 mouse pad. It's not long for this world.

Supports 21:9 out of the box if anyone was wondering. Looks nice, more open areas are somewhat inconsistent as far as texture quality goes though.

Glad I didn't drop 60 bucks on a digital download that I would probably spend all of an hour playing... Think I'll spend that money on candy instead

If you havent played it or seen it in person....how do you know its bad?
I would use that sort of power on the lottery.

The same reason, I know when a shitty movie comes out. It really doesn't involve any magic or power. It's simple really. You see said game by trailer/gameplay video - make a judgement call. What I am comparing my judgement call is to all the issues/complaints people are having.

I would assume any avid gamer, would develop an eye for this stuff - guess maybe not all of us do?

"I read all the complaints and make my judgment call". LMAO.

Do me a favor, keep right on moving. Nothing here for you. SLI issues at launch, bad AMD drivers at launch, news at 11.

There is always someone that plays and finishes in just hours. I see this in every single game. They basically just go straight for the ending and nothing else. Personally I like to explore and savor a game so I'm slower. Whenever I hear about someone finishing it faster than what seems humanely possible I dont worry about because I figure they dont get the full enjoyment out of a game. Their choice.

I don't know what's up with it locked up at 60fps like that. That's a really silly thing to do. At least they didnt lock it at 30fps. Most of the professional reviewers gave it good marks. I'm guessing its more of a good game than a excellent game. So far anyway. I'll wait and see what shakes out in that respect. Needing to update drivers is nothing new when it comes to CF and SLI set up it seems. AMD and nVidia play catch up a lot when it comes to these drivers and games. Can't fault the game itself if they dont support it on their end.

I'm so spoiled by Steam now and their sale pricing they do a few months after a game is released. Extremely few games are worth the original $50/$60 pricing anymore. Too many unfinished product or bugs just make it worth the wait for a lower price sale and get a multi patch product that works far better than release day.

Maybe Im different but I'll play the game and form my own opinion.

Wouldn't you say that is kind of inefficient though? I mean sure, you probably have boat loads of cash to throw away, I don't. If I am forced to buy every single game just to determine if it is shit or not - that is an expensive way to determine, wouldn't you agree?

When there is a new game announce, I make a note to myself about it after seeing the trailer, then my opinion either becomes stronger or shifts after seeing a gameplay video, some general background and other people's opinion who has had hands on with the product. 80-90% of the time, even before reviews have to say anything and before people can get their grubby hands on it, I am right that the game is either shit, OK, or great.

This is not to say I won't enjoy a game which everyone hates and gets a 50/100 on metacritic. But at the same time, like for this game, Wolfenstein, you know it's getting decent reviews and I guess the general consensus is the game is pretty good until the later half of the game goes to complete shit. But to me, I already know this game is already the typical corridor boring FPS which brings nothing new or interesting. Stack that on top of the technical issues/complaints - this game is nowhere fucking near worth the asking price nor the GMG preorder prices it sells at now.

that's my measly 2 cents, but lemme bow out before this gets out of hand.

Oh and keep doing what you're doing - it's the early adopters which give people like me a better informed decision to hop on a game or not. :D

I am using a single GTX 780 and i7-4770. I am not experiencing any performance issues whatsoever. Game is running at constant triple-digit framerates with the highest possible in-game video settings at 1920x1080. NVIDIA OpenGL support FTW :D.

you're getting triple digit frames in a game locked at 60 fps? do tell me more.

@BETA. corridor shooters can be fun man, but this was a new kind of low, is truly unbelievable that someone spend time and money to do this. im glad that im getting a refund after uninstalling it after 30 min.

Well I am having fun playing it so far, graphics are pretty good. Fun to go around killing Nazis :D

I am noticing some GPU Clock Speed throttling with my 290x though, I have the latest drivers and it hasn't been happening in other games. Perhaps its due to the 60 FPS limit?

I got my key on a deal from gmg for $44 which included new doom beta access and RTCW. I set the settings up real quick and played the first 2 mins and quit to fire up RTCW instead. For some reason I like that game better. No one was in multiplayer lobby sadly.

I'm going to play new order tonight. If it's truly shitty I'll give it to my kid and see what he makes of it lol.

I do feel bad for anyone who did pay full retail because honestly without multiplayer, it's barely worth $20. It pisses me off all the shit talk they said about why MP wouldn't come and how heavy the worked on the campaign side of it. Sadly they screwed those purist over. I'll reserve judgment based off my experience however.

Sorry it was a let down for several of you.

Played this today. First I had massive slowdown in my FPS during the tutorial. Updated my AMD drivers and it fixed that. Now I have texture pop-in. It loads some horrible texture then the real ones pop up on top of them. What junk

The game is superb. Performance is great at ultra/2560 x 1600.

Very glad I bit after the reviews dropped.

actually tried playing past the intro bit with the planes, and i've been playing for over an hour now. it's another game that you only play to advance the story, but the story is pretty good. feels like a movie. performance is fine. max settings with a 770 and texture compression turned on and my framerate has never gone below the stupid as fuck 60 fps cap, even with 8192 res shadows. in fact, my gpu frequently downclocks to 1084 MHz from 1215 because most areas are extremely easy to run. using 337.81 drivers. as for how it looks, all i can say is meh. same problems rage had. things close up have mediocre, blurry textures and there's some pretty bad pop-in. if you have your camera against a wall, and you sidestep to the right to see what's past the corner, you'll notice that even models pop-in and the textures are low resolution for a frame or two (which is a long time at 60 fps). pretty jarring. the lighting is shit. no dynamic lighting at all really. feels like dishonored. particle effects are meh. animation quality is hit or miss. the knife feels shitty but some of the guns have really solid and satisfying animations. the gore sucks. sounds are pretty generic. dialogue is good, voice acting is good, the characters (especially their models) are very cool and have great looking textures, which is slightly comical when you notice what looks like 256x256 textures on the wall next to them. small notes, pieces of paper and what not scattered around the environment are unreadable except for certain ones that you have to +use which brings them up on your screen. there aren't any control/input issues, seems like it uses raw input by default which is great. no acceleration or any stupid garbage like that. the game is extremely easy even on the highest difficulty. when you go to the prison, the ai is bugged horribly. enemies will only walk towards you, so you can just run past them or burn them in the face at arm's length with your laser cutter. the laser cutter gimmick is kind of cool. the dog ai is also broken in the prison. they'll just stand there barking at you until you get up to them to kill them, then they jump on you and you mouse1 them to death. i like how hard it is to be stealthy, it's pretty realistic. so far, i give it a 6/10. not worth $60. if i had no idea how big the game was i would've guessed 10 GB, maybe less. no idea how the textures manage to take up 33 GB.

I would use that sort of power on the lottery.
I've rarely been led astray by gameplay footage to be honest. Yeah, to form a proper opinion you'll obviously need to play it, but it's not often my enjoyment of a game's gameplay has exceeded or failed to reach my expectation based on gameplay footage. Probably because a lot of what makes a game fun to me is the pacing, environment and how it feels, much of which can be determined by gameplay footage before you even touch it. The story and such you can't tell, but IMO there aren't too many games that tell a story better than a book, movie or TV show can do so the story is always a secondary or tertiary point to me.

Am i the only one who cant get into this game?

I fired it up and played 45 minutes and wanted to shut it off. I felt that way about bioshock infinite too. Maybe these kinds of games aren't my cup of tea anymore.

Really looking forward to watch dogs, now that is a game i think i can get into.

You mean generic corridor shooters with no sense of innovation aren't your cup of tea?
Seems pretty normal to me.

I felt the same way with Dishonored, which is very similar to Wolfenstein game play wise.

Wow, so I registered on here just to post about this game, after reading some of the senseless "trolling" going on in this thread.

First off, I'll be upfront. I liked the game. It's not a "Game of the Year" but it isn't a bad game either.

From a story standpoint, it seems good, I'm about 1/4 of the way into the game.

Which reminds me, the guy who got the game and said he beat it like 3 hours after launch, that's either straight up lying or he pirated an unfinished copy. It would be literally impossible to beat the game in 3 hours. After 5 or so hours, being only 1/4 of the way in I'm guessing, playing at a normal pace, I would assume it is going to take me 20 hours to play the game, with ONE timeline. The game has a branching storyline, so replay value is there. Also lots of collectables and stuff to find.

It very much reminds me of old Wolfenstein 3D, trying to find hidden caches of Nazi gold, secret rooms, and documents etc. I wonder what the enigma codes unlock?

From a technical standpoint, it’s ok. It isn’t going to blow your socks off in the graphics department, but it isn’t a slouch either. There ARE some very nice special effects going on, and the models for everything have nice complexity. It looks as good as Dishonored, or say, Deus Ex (The new one) As for the game being locked at 60 FPS, who cares. It isn’t a multiplayer competitive game, so, nitpick much? It's not like at 60 FPS it feels laggy in ANY way.Texture pop-in? If it has this, it isn’t nearly as noticeable as RAGE was. I played the game, and if you are playing the game to PLAY it, instead of trying to nitpick and tear it apart, it wasn't noticeable from my eyes at least. It's funny to, because GTA 5 has terrible pop-in going on, and I never saw nearly as much complaining about that.

The gameplay itself is a "Run and Gun" shooter. It's very much an Arcade shooter. Which is great, because that is how the original was, which I loved. There are some more modern shooter "gimmicks". You can lean (In 4 directions actually) you can do a sliding move ala Max Payne, and you can Duel wield almost every gun in the game, which is actually fun.

The "perks" system is neat. No points, you level up perks based on your play style, so if you play stealthy, you get more stealthy perks. If you play crazy Rambo, you get more "Action" perks etc. There are 4 "skill" trees you can go through, which will automatically give you perks as you play, sort of like achievements. For example, I was doing a lot of stealth knife kills, and it unlocked a perk for me that let me use throwing knives.

The well crafted characters and story really shine in my opinion. They absolutely nailed the William Joseph "B.J." Blazkowicz. The character is exactly how I imagined him to be in the old Wolf 3D days, a "grunt" US Army Ranger. The supporting cast is also well done. The voice acting is great also, from the villains, to the side characters, really well done. Speaking of characters. The enemies are pretty neat. Creative use of almost like a "steam punk tech" you would expect from crazy Nazi experimentation, makes for a nice variety of enemy types, all of which have special "weak points" you can target to make them easier to take down, rather than dumping a million bullets into them. And the regular Nazi's make great cannon fodder. Individually, I like that I don't have to dump 20 bullets into them to take them down. They feel "real", a few bullets, and they drop. So shooting them in droves with a machine gun is fun.

As for the plot, from what I see so far, it is good. I am interested in seeing what happens, I like the characters, and one particular choice early on in the game actually made me cringe a bit, because I was very fond of a particular character. The whole "What if Nazi Germany had won the war?" plot is extremely well done and interesting to see. Other nice things are while the plot is "serious" the game doesn’t take itself too seriously at time. It retains that funny humor from the original Wolf 3D days, or DOOM. Picking difficulty settings will make fun of you for going on easy, and remember those funny quotes when you went to quit the game like "Abandon all humanity and Wuss out?(Quit)" well, yeah that is still there.

Also, Blazko has some great one liners. Soldier:"So what have you been up too?" Blazko: "Oh you know, strangling, stabbing Nazis"

Or you go to kill this sleeping Nazi with a stealth kill, and Blazko is "Wake up! You're dead" Reminds me of all the funny one liners in the old Duke Nukem games.

And the internal monologues! So sometimes, you look at a painting or something, and in the middle of the action, Blazko goes on these internal monologues, which are insightful at times, or others, outright hilarious.

So that's my thoughts. If I had to list some complaints, it would be 2 things.

I find the leaning mechanic cumbersome to use.

I hate having to push a button to pick up the items, versus just walking over them.

Took the words right out of my mouth! I agree with your thoughts on the game 100%.
