At first I thought they were actually auctioning off Tim Cook for the low, low price of $50k. Turns out, that just gets you coffee.

Apple CEO Tim Cook is selling his time, and it's worth $50,000. Cook is auctioning off a coffee meeting with himself at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., to raise money for the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights. Nine bids have already been submitted on charity auction site Charitybuzz, with the current highest at $10,500.

Not sure why Apple can't just donate a $1M to the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights. Collecting someone else's money to give to charity doesn't sound so charitable when you have as much money as Apple does.

Well considering that lunch with Warren Buffet last year cost 3.5 million, that seems like a bargain ... if you are a rabid Apple fan ;)

Yeah, don't they have a metric fuck-ton of cash lying around?

So rather than Apple itself coughing up spare change for charity, Mr Cook himself is doing it?

Wow, must be a quiet day... No comments about how this is "typical" of Apple, ie. expensive/overpriced. :p

What is the point of Justice and Human Rights in a country that already has them. They should be having these little expensive coffee clatches in countries that don't.

Well, he could be donating money also (we don't know ;) ), the more detailed quote from the article states

It's part of a campaign to raise money for the center, and several celebrities are participating. Other items for sale include a tour of the SpaceX Center in Los Angeles with Elon Musk, worth $25,000, and being William Shatner's guest at the 2014 Hollywood Charity Horse Show and Gala dinner, which is worth $5,000.

Not sure why Cook is worth 10 times Capt Kirk ... guess the Apple crowd pays more than the Trekkies :)

Charities do like these celebrity giveaways since they tend to garner lots of publicity ... how much would the hardcore gamer bid for a charity donut break with Gabe Newell :p

well its good to see ... he is starting to be likes Jobs..just remember how jobs died. Karma can be a bitch.

Where did my previous comment I made in this thread go? Looks like somebody didn't like it and deleted it.

It was right after DucMan69's post.

Although after looking up Tim Cook, it looks like Apple as a company takes more of the Jobs' stance of not donating their own money.

It had better put the Apple Juice™ to shame.
Is it sweetened with crystalized unicorn tears?

You just ruined their next product announcement ... iJuice with the matching iBagle and the one they are really banking on iBacon :p

Would you like iLox on that iBagel? Or perhaps iHummus?

iLox is approved for use with your iBagel ... I think the use of iHummus will void your warranty since it requires you to jailbreak your iBagel first ...

under no circumstances should you use your iJuice with the competing product from Google known as Glass ... It is rumored that combination will create a miniature black hole and destroy the universe

Wow haha almost spilled my ibeer

So...it costs $50K to get hot Java into Apple's CEO...how ironic.

"If you give use $50k we'll stop beating our employees and improve workers conditions to level: human" :p

For $50k you should at least get a slice of pie or something to go along with the coffee.

I think more people would rather of had coffee with Steve Jobs. Personally, I'd love to (not pay) have coffee with Woz. That guy would be the guy I'd want to talk to. He's just one of us. A geek. :)

Judging from the bidders now it appears to be mostly companies and developers ... if you are deep into the Apple infrastructure I guess an hour with the CEO might be worth that much but wow

Tim Cook is leveraging his well-earned position in society to raise money for a charitable organization? What an asshole.
