BioShock Infinite

Now THAT was a satisfying end to a game.

Saving the core was in a pain in the ass...until I remember RTS...haven't had a final battle like that that kept me on my toes since HL2:E2

I just finished it myself and yeah, amazing ending. I was still scratching my head about some aspects of it, so I went in search for some answers. DO NOT read this if you haven't finished the story (and sat through the credits). There are some good discussion comments as well that get you thinking.

Saving the core was in a pain in the ass...until I remember RTS...haven't had a final battle like that that kept me on my toes since HL2:E2

Finished in 1999 mode:
I skipped the last handyman battle after I was killed a handful of times. I'm glad I did. I died *many* times during the final battle.

this is all you really need to understand the events of the story:

once you can appreciate each arc as their own seperate chain of events, it's pretty easy to piece together the rest, and point out all the little details that tie them together.

Lots of people seem to be beating the game around the same day here :p. Count me in it too. Amazing ending, really outshines the rest of the game, 1999 mode starts to pick up during the end. Now, to start reading up on some explanations because while satisfactory, the ending doesn't close up every hole.

The ending closes up pretty much every hole there is. You just need to think it through and/or read a detailed synopsis so you get all the story beginning to end all at once.

I think Booker did feel guilty about the things he did. He didn't believe that a baptism could wash away his sins.

man, just finsihed the game as well. What a mind fuck lol, I dont know how many people felt the same, but the song during the end of the credits was incredibly moving combined with everything that just happened in the game. Was an amazing ending IMO and a great way to end it.

I also finished the game earlier tonight...Ken Levine has cemented his stature as the smartest mind in gaming...another classic story...the very definition of story-driven gameplay...a lot to take in at the end and it makes your brain hurt thinking about it...how 1 man can create such a mind fuck is a testament to his genius

how are people that finished the game seeing how many voxophones they missed?...I don't see that listed anywhere

now for ending spoilers...

so is Andrew Ryan another version of Dewitt created by another possible choice or constant/variable?...Infinite was a combination of the best parts of The Matrix along with the television shows Fringe and LOST...parallel universes, constants etc...in Fringe, Walter went into the alternate universe to save his son and ended up taking him back into his world setting off a chain reaction of events

Great ending, really unique and fun game , might even try 1999 mode :)

i just beat it... HOLLLLLLY SHIIIIIIT this is the best game i have played in years. the story just blew my efing mind. its like the movie memento.. ive been sitting here thinking about it for over an hour.

I also just beat it...what the fuck...

Anyways I guess I'm the only one that feels indifferent about the ending and over all story. I get it, I do, it's just I'm kind of like "OK" more than OMFG. I think I feel it was all just a little too out there for my tastes. That and I was definitely starting to get bored towards the end. The shooting and killing part I felt was too long in the tooth. I feel that the fighting could have been shortened down...there was too much fighting and not enough story.

I don't know, it was a good game and all for sure. It's just in the end I have a very big "meh" feeling to the over all experience. In fact this is probably one of the mehest games I've ever played. I would have to give it a 6.5/10 on a good day. The story was good but a little too far fetched and too much combat drags the game on a lot longer than I think was needed. To me, for being a GAME there was too much bad to off set the good.

I can certainly say that Tomb Raider I thought was a much better game over all. Better controls, better combat, and better graphics. Sure the story wasn't as "deep" or the levels as awe-inspiring (if you didn't look too close) as it was in Bioshock Infinite but if I had to chose Tomb Raider is definitely more game of the year material.

The beauty of art is that it can portray seemingly impossible stories that can be interpreted, or not, by the viewer. Not all games need to be realistic.
I dunno, maybe I am crazy because I got a lot more engaged into Rapture or Columbia than I did in any of the battles in the COD games. Seriously, just listening to the voxophones was enough for me to draw a connection between the world.
We have enough zomg so realistic fps games.
A game of this caliber will only push this art medium higher and higher. Maybe one day our standards that allow a rehash of COD or Battlefield every year for full price will rise enough for the developers to say, "hmm. Maybe we should spend a little less time implementing TressFX for the hair on that horses ass, and spend a little more time trying to create a fully immersive environment and story.

I don't know where you are getting that I'm saying it's too unrealistic. That isn't a problem for me. It's just that over all the game is just too bland.

Let's see here...

Graphics: Pretty from a far. UE3 is definitely in full show here with it's seemingly inability to produce decent textures. The level design and awesomeness of the floating city I feel is something that, in the beginning is amazing, but get's old quick. The game definitely amazes in the beginning but then the levels and design seems to just drop off. Too often during the game did I forget that I was in this amazing floating city as it became just your typical layout. I can't stress this part enough. I mean really think about it. In the beginning you are jumping building to building and all this then the game becomes all in doors with no feeling or danger or amazement that you are in the incredible floating city. I was EXTREMELY disappointed by this. This is more level design than graphics but I feel that their turning away from what made the graphics so amazing in the beginning just died out.

Game play: Typical FPS fare. I really didn't find anything particularly interesting or fun about the shooting. Sure they had some new features like the skyline/skyhook thing but I rarely found myself using it just because there was no point. Even on the hardest level the enemies were just too easy. Also what was with being able to aim down the sights when you could just fire from the hip with the EXACT SAME amount of accuracy. I was able to head shot mofo's across the map from the hip. Made no difference.

Also over all the gun play was just too repetitive and the levels completely on the rails. I honestly found myself using a trainer in the last couple hours just so I could get through the damn game. Got so sick of 2 minutes of dialog followed by a battle with boring enemies followed by 2 minute cutscene followed by battle with boring enemies, etc, etc, etc. This game definitely doesn't win any awards with me when it comes to the actual game part of it.

Story: Meh. I can say it definitely wasn't the twist or ending I was semi-expecting but it was still just meh. Interesting in a way but...meh. I can't see why people are so blown away by it. Like, I guess I get it, the whole infinite thing and all that...I guess that in the end it was just too out there for the Bioshock universe. I can definitely say without a problem that the first Bioshock was not made with Infinites story line as a factor.

I could go on and on but I stick to my 6.5/10. Actually thinking about it as I have when typing this I almost want to give it a 5/10 just due to how linear and mediocre the actual GAME part is. I don't get where you are getting this "fully immersive environment" thing from Dark12...all I saw was a pretty from a far vista views with closed off levels and static objects. I certainly think Tomb Raider had far superior levels both from a design stand point and from an exploration stand point.

Edit:

Perhaps I was expecting something much more in line with this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEBwKO4RFOU (E3 2011 Game play footage and DAMN does it look SO much better!!!)

Also wanted to say that I in no means went into the game expecting the worst or anything like that. I am honest when I say the first few hours were AMAZING and I had nothing but praise about the game when talking to friends about it. It's just as the game went on...and on...it was just a steady decline to mediocrecy.

In the end just to summarize my over all feelings all I can say is that, Bioshock Infinite is a good experience with a lot to admire, but I would not call it a good game.

You usually air out your complaints pretty quick & aren't positive in your presentation, JoeUser. Might be that you're just not pleased with anything? I don't get the sense that you generally have a fun time with gaming either...

Would you rather me reflect for a week after beating a game? As I said, it's a decent game and I went into it with high hopes and rather enjoyed the first few hours quite immensely. If you had asked me what I thought of the game when I started playing it I would have told you this was GOTY no doubt.

Then it just went down hill. I'm actually quite amazed at the praise this game is getting...I simply don't get it. I really feel like I'm playing a different game then everyone else. I feel like everyone around me is drinking the Kool-Aid and I'm the only one that isn't drugged. I mean, if everyone feels that this game is amazing and doesn't lack numerous flaws and cheapness than I don't know what to say.

The setting/location/levels start off as mind blowing then is seemingly quickly forgotten (seriously after like the first 1/3 of the game I forget I'm even in a floating city), game play is oh so typical and becomes QUITE tedious and repetitive, A.I. is horrible, there are no notable enemies or characters, story is good and different but nothing OMFG AMERZERG!!!, graphics are pretty shit over all (it's 2013 drop UE3 already, it's old and dated), NONE of your choices in the game make a DAMN bit of difference to ANY outcome, there are NO puzzles, hacks, or ANYTHING interesting from the other Bioshock games, etc...like, am I the only one here that sees this???

I guess I'm all alone...though I have to admit that if this is the case than I'm happy to be alone.

Watch the E3 game play I linked above and TELL ME that doesn't look 1000% better in EVERY way from what we got. Tell me that there is NOTHING wrong with this game and that it deserves all the 9 and 10 out of 10's that EVERYONE seems to be giving it. I think you people need to go back and play Bioshock 1 again then come back to Infinite. I bet your opinion on this being such a great GAME will change.

Haven't played it myself but the consensus out there is that its a great game.

Spot on. THe floating city had such potential - jetpacks, aerial combat, jumping from island to island... you just feel like it was not in the air. Nothing compared to the feel of Rapture, with leaking tunnels, water splashes and such.

Same about story. Nothing compared to "Would you kindly" moment, meeting Ryan and learning who really is Atlas, and who are you. Choices didn't matter, not like in Bioshock 2 or even 1.

Just generic, overhyped shooter, with meh plot.

It has it's flaws, but it makes up for it with a deep story & great art. I wouldn't say that I'm the easiest to please with games. BSI definitely has it's low points with what it lacks but truly shines with what it does well. Throughout the game, I haven't forgotten that I'm in a floating city & I enjoy the immersive feeling of that experience.

I'll politely agree to disagree with you on most points. :)

I started over on medium and now it is way to easy but least im having fun now. Hard seems like it would be a better choice as 1999 was just too frustrating.

Bioshock infinite has been way over hyped. I would say ita a solid 8 out of 10. It has a good story and well done characters. but the gun play and ai is kinda crap. That being said, I played through it twice and enjoyed it just as much the second time, which is somthing that I didnt get out of the other 2 bioshock's.

Now I get what they were trying to do at the end even if it doesnt make much sence, but I started to think.

Why couldnt they go back and kill the twins? that would prevent everything from happening. since the flying city couldnt have been created (I think) and comstock couldnt have bridged worlds.

You're entitled to your opinion of course, but in this case it's just wrong. Sorry to say so, and we would probably disagree forever and you would never change your mind. And that's okay I suppose. I don't recall your opinions on many games, so I only have this one to reference.

But one small thing I do want to touch on is just how flat out wrong you are about how the game looks, and you keep forgetting where you are in the game. I've never stopped so many times in my whole gaming career to admire such a virtual world. The graphics may not be top notch, but the art style, and all the opportunities for amazing "sightseeing" (couldn't think of a better word), I just couldn't get enough. I have almost a thousand screenshots and I'll have even more after my second play-through where I plan to take even more time to look around and appreciate everything they put in.

I feel like you didn't take the time to appreciate the game. I mean, honestly.

(not mine but I couldn't find the original again).

(hope those work correctly)

That's just two shots. I picked the first one basically at random from the first 100 shots that I have.

Because then there is no game. Also, *Who* would be attempting to kill them? No one knows anything until the final parts. I suppose except for Comstock, but he's not going to try to kill someone he already thinks is dead.

yeah I have to say this game is pretty amazing.....JoeUser your arguments are contradicted by your very own arguments. Are you playing this game on Ultra ? I do not normally walk around in games to take screen shots but found myself doing it ALOT.

Also you say the game is in no way different, it is just your ordinary shooter than later say it is a great game worth the acclaim its getting for 9/10. . . . Ordinary "typical" shooters are not worthy of 9/10's. This game is EASILY the most fun/best game I have played in YEARS. The last game that made me this in awe was Fallout 3.

The ending is absolutely amazing ...... have studied Quantum Physics and Quantum mechanics it is uncanny how in depth the ending actually is. Its all constants and variables each of which are different but still the same, its hard to simplify. However I was amazed at the ending with showing you Rapture. I do not know if many of you recall but to be able to get in and use the Spheres in the original Bioshock you had to have the same DNA as the Jack/Andrew Ryan....meaning that Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite are one in the same. Just different variables like there names and where the cities are located.

You're entitled to your opinion of course, but in this case it's just wrong. Snip.

Nope none of that. I thought the game was amazing visually in the beginning...truly had that dream like feeling. It all falls off quick though. Especially in the area where you are trying to find the gun tools and machinery. You don't see anything remotely "flying city" in this area.

I took the time to admire the sights, it just got to a point where there was either A) Nothing to admire, or, B) It was all the same thing over and over again.

I can only be impressed by 2D sprite buildings floating in the distant view so many times before it just loses its grandeur and impressiveness. Especially considering the fact you can't do shit with them. But I guess that's 99% of the scenery to begin with.

Look at my sig. Of course I'm playing ultra.

And NO where do I say it's worth anywhere near a 9 out of 10. You obviously didn't read what I said and instead decided to go straight to arguing.

LMAO ....... for one, of course you can't see the flying city when in doors, if the whole game took place outside I bet that would be something you would have to bitch about. Play again where and look in the air when you are fighting with the Vox or looking for Chen and his machines. Floating buildings can be seen.

Futhermore your point of well the buildings are in the distance I can't do shit with 99% of the scenery, again if there were no buildings in the distance this would take away from the immersion. Would you rather have just clouds? O wait ...you would just bitch about that then.

So by your logic ....NewYork City, London, L.A, Toronto, Paris they all aren't worth seeing see you can't do shit with 99.9% of the city? Sorry bro but your logic fails ....

You're certainly entitled to your opinion. I know that I've played a few games that were raved about, and gone 'eh? I don't get it''.

Those that took the time to explore were rewarded with the song much earlier in the game ;)

Oh I know. I found it, And enjoyed it but it was a pretty short clip. It was nice to hear the full song at the end lol

Also ... Joe, you are the vast minority here. Over 3000 user reviews on metacritic from actual gamers and the average is 9.0/10. The best part is the few bad reviews give it 1's or 2's skewing it as that game just for the graphics/ending and voice actors deserved higher than a 2.

Like others have stated you are just flat out wrong ....but you are entitled to your opinion.

Nah bro. Read some of the 5-6 rated reviews and you'll see I'm not alone.

Think about it...would you really, and I mean REALLY, score this game a 9 or 10 out of 10? You would consider this game from start to finish either perfect or 1 point away from PERFECT?!

If so then you are the reason gaming has gone to shit and why this generic shit keeps coming out and won't stop any time soon. Thank you for having such LOW standards. Go back and keep enjoying your mediocre corridor shooter with nearly zero game play mechanics, no exploration, nothing other than general go here kill them then go here kill them...rinse and repeat. Bioshock Infinite is no different than a CoD game set in a floating city and with a better story line. That's all, at its core, that it is. If you can't see that then I just don't know what to say...

If you can't see that then I just don't know what to say...

lol, jesus christ.

It's pretty lol when there is more girly drama on an internet PC gaming forum than there is at my house with my gf.

The game is solid. 8/10 so far for me. Will probably end up with a 9/10 after I see this awesome ending people are talking about.

Ok again let me use YOUR logic ...... Read some of the 5-6 reviews and see I am not alone. 5-6 OUT OF 3000!!!!! This is less than 1% of the population. And if you know anything about business statistics for every 200 satisfied customers through word of mouth 1 dissatisfied person will contradict. Meaning those bad reviews are over represented ....and good reviews under represented.

By YOUR logic if anyone agrees with you , Your opinion becomes fact. I would say that on the grand scheme of things 2995 vs you and the 5 or 6 others you are on the WRONG side. But hell ....I am making sense and arguing with you is like arguing with a women.....you can't use facts or statistical data when the later is using opinion.

Nothing to admire? I think you just have a lack of appreciate for the world. It's something I've started to try and appreciate more in real life as I get older, and see to that represented in a game, where I can do things in reality I cannot, makes it all the better.

You could say the same thing about ANY game when it comes to things(scenery) you cannot interact with.

One of the minor details that I think about is how they tried to make the world living. There's the beach area and little arcade where you can roam around and check things out, but the AI interactions are limited. It was only after watching some interviews with Ken Levine(after completing the game) where he talks about how difficult it was just to get Elizabeth working properly and the sheer amount of resources needed to handle her AI. It probably significantly limited their ability to expand on certain things. Most likely things were cut because they couldn't be technically done given the multiplatform restrictions. It gives a better understanding an appreciation of Irrational's hard work on the game.

Now you're just being asshole. We get you are amazing, and have some amazing games lined up, that you have created and we will be waiting ever so patiently to play them and give 10/10's all around.

You come off on this forum as someone who has a vendetta with this game, it's odd.

I definitely think this game is amazing (whatever score you want to give something called 'amazing'), and I rank it up there with half-life. My biggest complaint is that some of the areas could have used a bit more TLC polygon-wise (things like the roses on the bushes, the knocked over bags of apples). I'm not someone that sits and stares at these kinds of things, but sometimes it was a little jarring given how beautiful the rest of the game is.

If that's all I have to complain about, then yeah, it's definitely a great game. There will always be people who for whatever reason don't like something and I'm OK with that!

Exactly ...... I get he has his opinion but when he tries to say that the vast majority of gamers are stupid because they like this game I feel like I am arguing with a 13 year old girl.

His argument of yeah well 5-6 reviewers agree with me ......so you are wrong.
He forgets to mention the 3100 that agree with the rest of us that its a great game.

Using your reasoning, I can safely say there has never been a video game that scored higher than an 8 in all of history.

The city, the atmosphere, the history, and the relationship between characters make the game. The art style is simply amazing. If it doesn't do it for you, it doesn't do it for you.

The game play certainly wasn't perfect, but it worked just fine. It was very entertaining. The AI was bad? I died quite a few times. The only time the AI could be considered bad was when you were sniping from WAAAAAAAY far away. Otherwise they close and flank you in groups. The cemetery is a perfect example. You aren't going to be camping during that fight.

The lack of puzzles? You mean like hacking in BioShock 1? No thank you. Great, I'll save right before I start the hack and do it over and over until I get it with no repercussions . It's not really that enjoyable. I was quite fond of Elizabeth and enjoyed having her pick locks for me.

Decisions don't matter? They definitely gave me pause and created some conflict as to which I should choose. They had the desired effect I think. It's explained later and it's basically the point of the entire game.

If you don't like it, that's fine. But it was a very engrossing story. I couldn't wait to sit down and play it each time. That means it's a good game.

Pretty much. 9/10 or 10/10 doesn't mean "perfect". Perfection is unattainable, especially for a piece of software, and that's not to mention all of the subjective points about graphics, plot, pacing, etc.

I would rate the game as a 9/10 so far. It's kept me engaged (though there are some slow points where you're just running around scavenging, those get a little boring at times) and I can't wait to see the ending.

As far as the graphics, I will agree that as you progress through the game the graphics don't seem as impressive, but I think only because the tone and scene change a lot throughout the game and it's not as bright and cheery as it was at the start. I guess it does well to provide a stark contrast in that way, which is what they were going for probably?

There are definitely some issues (the game has crashed more on me than any other game in recent memory) and I'm a bit surprised they haven't patched it yet, but it's still great.

*slowly raises hand*

I'm maybe 5-8 hours in. It looks good but not amazing. As some say the artistic quality outweighs the datedness but it still feels old. I'm an old school gamer so it doesn't bother me but I'm aware of it. the characters and story are not nearly as intriguing as I'd hoped. They've traded claustrophobia and creepiness for movie effects and splashy action. the villain and tones feel eeh. The audiologs are rarely worth listening to.There's almost no environment interaction. I really hate the Vigors. I miss the old ones. Elisabeths head is so goddamn big its distracting. They kinda screwed up with that. I took snapshots of her next to other people. It's like they went cheap on that. She looks really out of place. Everyone else has normal model heads. She also still annoys me. I hope she gets this amazing character depth everyone has described.
