Pre-Order StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm $29.99

No you don't....

Will Heart of the Swarm require ownership of Wings of Liberty?
For the regions that have a standard box business model such as North America and Europe, yes, Wings of Liberty will be required in order to play Heart of the Swarm.

Straight from Blizzard's FAQ

Yes, you need SC2: Wings of Liberty.

You don't need SC1 or Brood War on the off chance that's what you're asking.

Eh might as well. I enjoyed wings of liberty for the most part. They couldn't have f'd up heart of the swarm as bad as they did D3.

Ah I thnk everyone us underestimating how bad blizzard has become these days. I am taking a wait and see approach on this.

I don't like blizzard anymore, they have such a huge stick up their ass. Slow development time, no price drops, same old games just milking those cash cows, no new games. Just a bunch of greedy, old assholes.

This to infinity. The Blizzard from 2000 is long gone.

Lol actually if they made the same old games but better graphics and continued the story I wouldnt mind as much. But they took the great old games, fucked them up, sold them to us unfinished, and are trying to milk the f out of one series. They screwed up D3 so bad that I cannot really find myself to forgive them. Also lied out of their ass on PVP in D3. Starcraft 2 WOL was decent, but Cataclysm was shit and Panda is just ok.

Lol no price drops. Because they dont have to on account of this thing called supply and demand. Blame all the people paying full price happily.

Blaarrgh. Pre ordered digital copy through blizzard recently because I figured the price is what it was at least for a month or two after launch. Silly me.

In for one thanks.

If it helps anyone in considering a purchase, I have noticed preorder sales for blizzard games usually come at a discount from certain stores. This is only for the recent launches. After that though, its rare to see a sale on a blizzard game.

The fact they are charging for an "expansion" is rediculous enough. It's been what, 2 years now to develop another 1/3 of the story?

No more money from me for Blizzard.

I really dont think im going to buy this game and I liked WOL. I just can't justify paying for this. I should have got the full game when i bought it years ago. This expansion should have been an expansion on all three sides of the same story.

It's an expansion, but it really has a lot of content for the money. Being in the MP beta, they have done a total revamp of the UI, animations are much improved, it has a long campaign, and there is so much replay value on Battle.net It's not like Blizzard is the only company charging for content, and IMO it's even worse what games like COD and BL2 have done with these $50 season pass things lately.

Got in on this deal as well. Bummed that I will have to wait a few days to play it due to shipping time but I won't have much time until the weekend anyways with work and its worth saving $10. So far $90 seems kind of expensive for this game but I definitely get my moneys worth with all the time I spend playing it online. Really this the only game I play, maybe a little skyrim here and there and my super nintendo but that's about it.

Wow, you need the original to play? Granted it's not $60 but $40 for what is basically an expansion is a bit pricy.

I'm wondering if there would be a workaround to play it without the original, like a Windows 7 "update" version. Or if they're just going to leave all the key files out, because it seems to imply some areas will in fact be able to play a stand alone version.

It's an expansion, why would you even want to play this if you haven't played SC 2.

If you were to purchase a Korean or Chinese copy it'll probably be stand-alone. The asian business model revolves around gaming cafes, and with the new global play, you could just log in on the North America battle.net server.

I don't understand what the big fuss is about having to own Wings of Liberty to play Heart of the Swarm. Ive seen WOL on sale for around $20 several times in the last couple months. Well worth picking up at the price. Also, your going to miss a bunch of the story if you plan on playing the campaign at all.

Anyone know a good spot to read the plot summary of WoL? I played it when it released, but I've since forgotten most of the story, and I was going to give it another playthrough, but I just don't have the time.

Something like a mission by mission walkthrough of the story exist?

Much appreciated.

+1 I agreed

I dunno, maybe I was lucky that a friend bought it, and thanks to Blizzards amazing "you don't really own it neaner neaner" mentality I played the game on his system and within a couple days (not full day either) beat the entire thing, so never had the need to buy it.

You could say the same for nearly any single-player campaign mode. However, people really get their moneys worth through the online play. Hundreds or thousands of hours of play for $40 (was $60 at release and $20 now if you catch it on a sale) is a pretty good deal.

That argument only is valid if you in fact do play online, which I do not, and yeah I realize I may not exactly be the target audience as such. However the original argument was that there was lots of story in the first, which is really irrelevant in multiplayer is it not?

Either way, I remembered why I didn't buy this game and opted for playing at a friend's... the "license" nature of the game, as a result you could not resell it. I wonder if anyone ever did an online "crack" in the way you had no-cd cracks back in the day.

You can buy the original and the expansion together for $60 if you do not own the original. This is the equivalent price of a new game essentially (arguments about $60 new game pricing is another matter).

Thats B.S. then. I paid $60 for the game when it came out, now another $40.. so if i would have waited it would have been $60, not $100. Im starting to dislike Blizzard.
