Galaxy Note 2, whose getting one?

coming from a note1 user, im absolutely not a fan of the note2 screen size. not happy with the lack of pixels and the screen ratio. i hate how long they become and i prefer them wider

Eh, can't please everyone, I guess. Most people prefer the slightly narrower/taller 16:9 ratio on the Note 2 over the 16:10 on the Note, due to it being a little easier to hold onto with one hand and better compatibility with HD videos. I know I do.

Also, I'm not sure how one can complain about the lower resolution/PPI when it's still sharper than the previous Note due to the RGB pixel arrangement vs Pentile RGBG on the Note. As you can see in that article ItaliaFerrari linked to, it's even sharper than the GS3's Pentile display, which has considerably higher PPI than both phones.

Agreed.

The SGN2 has a sharper screen than the SGN1 screen.

Also the SGN2 is actually more compact than the SGN1:

So I don't know what he's talking about. I guess he's never seen a SGN2 before.

Can MMS messages be sent over wifi? Also is there a way to send texts to say iphones without paying per text?

No, all SMS/MMS messages go over the carrier. It sounds like you want an iMessage substitute, which on Android is Gtalk. So if you wanted to message another iPhone user over WiFi, they would have to use another IM client like Gtalk. I use Gtalk over SMS/MMS with all my friends/family that are on Android anyways just because it is a bit faster and more reliable in my experience, plus it's native to Android, so you're always signed in and available.

Yeah if all texts could go over WiFi, then carriers wouldn't be making any money.

Getting Gtalk or another free IM service is a great substitute for SMS over a carrier if you text a lot.

you can use something , probably like grooveip combined with google voice to send a text over wifi.
The recipient will know no difference.

grooveip is TERRIBLE. I mean it works but the voice quality is so bad I cant understand what people are saying on the other side and they cant understand me.

My note 2 experience just keeps on improving. Love this bad boy! Battery life, quickness, the screen size for videos etc.. awesome sauce!

grooveip has been working fine for my epic 4g with cm9 or 10, cant remember. But anyhow the OP wants to text if it works thats all that matters.

Did the microsd trick on the note 2 and now my phone recog izes 64gb as internal and 16gb as external :)

Whoa, please explain how to do this! I just bought a 64GB card myself and would love to do this. Can you please enlighten me?

Thanks in advance!

Ill post the link I used when I get home from work. It was a youtube video I looked up. Literally took like 5 mins

Side question:

My cousin who has a Note 2 is looking for something similar to my iPod hi-fi dock that I have. She is wondering is there anything where she can plug in her Note 2 and listen to music?

I know there are options like the Jambox that connect via bluetooth, but is there anything specific to the Note 2? I saw Samsung has some docks of their own, but I think she wants to keep the price <$200.

Here is the link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUF7R0mmk00

It has everything, worked like a charm! I deleted everything off my internal and have even more space. Google play downloads and saves into my micro SD as well.

Just a question for anybody who does this... does the 16GB set aside about 5gb for the OS that will never be removable?

Any comments on white vs grey. Kind of leaning towards white (though if i wait a week or two think blue or red would show up?); wonder if white has a tendency to flare the camera ?

no comments.. absolutely, and purely subjective. color. zero functional differences..

Well that was one question I have; given the white reflective surface has anyone noticed if it causes flare (or more flare) than the grey version with regards to the camera ?

The Titanium Grey looks much classier than the white version.

Fuck waiting for the Nexus 4 back in the Play Store. Found a guy selling a brand new, in the box and wrapped up still international Note 2 for $400 on Craigslist.

Will check it out in person first before I buy, turn it on, make sure it's all good, any other advice to look out for ?

And if it is great and new, what ROM do you recommend ? Omega v10 ? Or a CM10.1 based ROM, but that will kill the S-pen apps ?

...won't be released until at least September. And them expecting Exynos 5 isn't exactly a revelation. Samsung plans to use Exynos 5 throughout 2013-2014. Exynos 4 was 2011-2012. As for it being octa, that would be a very likely possibility. That would be close to a year from announcement. If I had to guess, I would say 60% chance of quad and 40% chance of octa.

What carrier are you on theses days Zorachus? I seem to recall you being on Sprint about a year ago, but I assume you've switched since then as you're looking at an international Note 2. Anyway, you won't be disappointed with the Note 2. Most amazing phone I've ever used.

There's a project to port ROMs on the Note2 across carriers. Some Verizon ROMs have been ported to Sprint. Requires some patching, as partition schema vary.

Finally went to Straight Talk ATT SIM, I am done being handcuffed by the corporate demons. Nice to be free, no contract, no commitment. HSPA+ is plenty fast for a cell phone, and I am around WiFi so much, barely use the phone network for internet or downloads much.
$45/Month full unlimited, hard to beat.

How hard is it to get used such a large phone as the Note II ?

Recent phones for me are the One X running CM10, and Galaxy Nexus before that. I use my phone a lot for my business, text a ton, lots of emails, bunch of phone calls, surf the web, use GPS, etc...

How hard is it to hold this phone ? Or put up to your ear for phone calls ? Is texting only two handed, too big a device for one hand operation ?

If you don't have tiny hands, then the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will take about 1 week max to get used to.

I don't even have huge hands and I can use the SGN2 with one hand. Seriously, it's slimmer and more compact than the Samsung Galaxy Note 1. It's big, but the ergonomic design is excellent.

I've seen a lot of girls use the SGN2 and they told me it's a great size. I have a feeling that the next SGN, the SGN3, will make tablets redundant with a 6.3 inch screen, a lip display and a very compact design with more screen taking up the bezel.

No problem using the SGN2 one-handed here, my hands are probably on the smaller side of medium sized for a male with ~8" from tip of index to bottom corner of my palm. It did take a little while to find a comfortable way to hold it for one-handed use, but after that no problems at all.

Using the Samsung keyboard in landscape mode is a bit awkward however (tow-handed), I just haven't gotten use to it yet.

on VZW.. I just received a OTA update. checking the listed support site.. "404" LOL

anyone know what todays Push was to SGN2?

The brand new Note 2, I found on Craigslist, said it was the international version, so I said cool, I'll buy it. Then I asked specifically which model is it exactly, he e-mailed me a pic, showing "GT-N7102" Looking up that model number, shows it to be the Chinese international version ? Which is different than what I would call "International", as in the European version.

Anyways, would that model Note 2, still work in the U.S. on ATT or T-Mobile, and Straight Talk ? And would ROM's on this specific Note 2 model use the same ones as the normal International version ?

Thanks

UPDATE: Scammer, he said this Note 2 is a "clone" not made by Samsung. He said it lists that in the CL add, I triple checked, and nowhere does it say clone, it all says brand new Samsung,

If I was a girl, then possibly -- it's just not going in any pockets and I don't walk around with a purse.

I don't think I need that big of a screen though, even though it is nice.

Most girls put their phones in their handbags regardless of size.
