Torchlight 2

Well my nephew that has been off on a business trip for his job finally got back and we fired up Torchlight 2. I made the game on Veteran difficulty and initially he was pondering that either he sucked or the game was tuned too high. I told him to try harder and actually pay some attention. He started having TONS of fun as he finally realized that there was more to the fights than just stand there and eat damage while outdps'ing the boss. I even snagged a few unique items for my lil engineer.

Funny thing was after an hour into the thing he asks how do you respec. I was like real men figure out their talent trees before they start noob! (All in jest of course.) So I guess either we're going to start new characters or suck it up and have slightly flawed characters. I'm all for the slightly flawed but completely usable solution, but he's looking sadder and sadder at his character sheet. I've learned that nothing's perfect long ago, but I'll do it again for science!

Maybe this is common knowledge but apparently passive skill spells (like treasure hunter) don't do you any good when you make your pet learn them. Wish I had known that before I made my pet learn treasure hunter IV.

I figured that was the case...

But I was thinking of more along the line of if it's something like that it'll affect your pet, not you. So maybe if the pet kills but they're pretty weak so.... I wouldn't rely on it.

Has anyone run into an online game where none of the mobs fight back? Really strange. We exited a phase portal and none of the overworld mobs did anything but died. When you tried to zone out, you got disconned, but you could stay and slaughter enemies for free exp, fame, and loot until you zoned.

It's late, so maybe I'm missing something. I just beat the game on Normal. I know in D3, you can then choose to move up to the next difficutly level and play through again. Is that possible here? I know I can use the mapworks to play levels. And also the "New Game Plus" mode. Does that increase the difficulty level to the next level?

Edit: A little research answered my question.

Actually this is incorrect. Tiamat, a dev, confirmed that Treasure Hunter DOES WORK if placed on the pet. You just won't see it reflected in the Arcane Statistics window.

Animal Handling only affects the pet's summons, like archers/zombies, and won't affect the pet itself...except for the reduction in Town Travel Time, which does work.

Just hit 91 on my Outlander last night. Now I'm trying to finish my Unearthly armor set...it's going pretty slow, everyone else seems to find the shit more than I do...lmfao.

Well, looks like it is time to remove that spell from my scroll bar. I thought it affected all minions (pet, pet's, and mine).

What kind of build are you going with?

I went with a "Rangelander" build.

Long Range Mastery, Akimbo, Shadowling Ammo, Death Ritual, Master of Elements, Glaive Throw, and Poison burst.

I still have about 20 skill points saved though for an extra skill I just haven't decided what yet. Possibly Dodge Mastery for the end-game avoidance. I still get 1-shotted in lvl 105 Mapworks if I'm not careful.

I went with a shotgonne build. Rapid Fire, Poison Burst, Shotgonne Mastery, Master of Elements, Poison Burst. I'm having the one shot issue as well. I'll be doing good, and then get one shotted. Had a ton of problems in my first playthrough of the Emberworks. Stupid Dwarf Sentry turrets and their machine gun attacks were messing me up.

Yeah, those things are a bitch. I still have trouble with them.

I finally hit lvl 100 a few minutes ago...now I have about 25 skills points unused and doing research on what to put them in. Other than that, I'm working on finishing my Unearthly set.

Wow, just finally beat TL2 with my Outlander. Fun as hell! Doing Mapworks now for shitz and giggles trying to gear up before I go to redo the whole game in the next difficulty setting.

I'm not sure the easiest way to find the answer to this so I'll just ask here. If I have a slow weapon in my main hand is there any benefit to having a fast weapon (claw) in my offhand or is attack speed only determined by main hand weapon?

Each weapon uses its own attack speed and the game remembers which weapon was used last (and then will use the other weapon the next time you attack). So if you have a slow left weapon and a fast right weapon, then first hit will be slow and then next will be fast, then back to slow, and so on. If you use the slow weapon last in a battle (or at any time, really), then your next attack in the future will use the fast weapon at the fast attack speed.

I'm sorry for resurrecting an older topic, but I was just wondering if there are still people playing Torchlight 2.

Recently bought the game on Steam and now I'm wondering why I never tried it before. I'm using the most recent Synergies Mod (1.47 low population, there's also a high population version which at the very least doubles the monsters and Elites) and I'm having a great time as a Embermage. So far it feels really satisfying and rewarding to play. I have to say I'm enjoying the soft "cartoon" graphics as well.

I bought TL2 when it came out however it was just added to my already growing backlog. I installed it last weekend to fill in the time before the release of Crysis 3, Sim City 5, tomb raider and Bioshock infinite and I must say that I am really enjoying this game. It is going to be extremely hard to put this game down to play others. I played D3 for many hours and got 3 toons to 60 but grew tired of the game and uninstalled it. I am really enjoying the colorful cartoonish graphics of this game. The levels are big and lots of fun to explore. There is something really gratifying about having to explore and grind for your gear instead of buying it off the auction house since shit never drops.

I am an embermage with a prismatic bolt build. I just started playing this last weekend and now have my toon up to level 49 on normal difficulty. If anyone is on the fence about this game, pick it up. It is well worth the 20$ price tag.

Yeah, for me it is the same. A very fun game and surprisingly only for a 20 (for me Euro) price. I'm still enjoying Diablo 3 as well, but it is nice to see that Torchlight 2, in the area of loot/gear, shows that it can do things differently from D3.

If you finish T2 for the first time, consider taking a look at the Synergies Mod. It adds so much new stuff and depth to T2. It's being updated very regularly.

Yeah, I actually pre-ordered this and *still* have not played it. I did play the beta a bit, though.

I started on it at release but lost interest in it pretty quickly so I threw it on the backlog. I've now put a little time into POE and have found it to be far more interesting so T2's move to the backlog is probably permanent.

I will have to try this mod out. I just beat the game last night on normal and started a new game. I really like this game and it will definitely hold me over until some of the games I want start dropping.

TL2 is a great game that I can't wait to get official mod support. Yes it's there already, but the developers are supposed to be releasing a toolkit in the future. TL2 is a really enjoyable experience and easily worth the $20 price. I can't think of a single thing that it does "wrong". :)

I really should go back and finish this game. I put a few hours into it and really liked it but it came out in the middle of so many other things that it just took a back seat. I wondered what the 750+ meg update was for!

Patience is usually rewarded with a 75% off sale.

That is another way of saying I don't have an extra copy for you.

Love the game, hate the classes.... all of them suck imo. The best one seem to be embermage, but even that got boring.
